DeCo: Decoupled Human-Centered Diffusion Video Editing with Motion Consistency

Xiaojing Zhong, Xinyi Huang, Xiaofeng Yang, Guosheng Lin, Qingyao Wu

展开摘要

"Diffusion models usher a new era of video editing, flexibly manipulating the video contents with text prompts. Despite the widespread application demand in editing human-centered videos, these models face significant challenges in handling complex objects like humans. In this paper, we introduce DeCo, a novel video editing framework specifically designed to treat humans and the background as separate editable targets, ensuring global spatial-temporal consistency by maintaining the coherence of each individual component. Specifically, we propose a decoupled dynamic human representation that utilizes a parametric human body prior to generate tailored humans while preserving the consistent motions as the original video. In addition, we consider the background as a layered atlas to apply text-guided image editing approaches on it. To further enhance the geometry and texture of humans during the optimization, we extend the calculation of score distillation sampling into normal space and image space. Moreover, we tackle inconsistent lighting between the edited targets by leveraging a lighting-aware video harmonizer, a problem previously overlooked in decompose-edit-combine approaches. Extensive qualitative and numerical experiments demonstrate that DeCo outperforms prior video editing methods in human-centered videos, especially in longer videos."

De-confounded Gaze Estimation

Ziyang Liang, Yiwei Bao, Feng Lu

展开摘要

"Deep-learning based gaze estimation methods suffer from sever performance degradation in cross-domain settings. One of the primary reason is that the gaze estimation model is confounded by gaze-irrelevant factor during estimation, such as identity and illumination. In this paper, we propose to tackle this problem by causal intervention, an analytical tool that alleviates the impact of confounding factors by using intervening the distribution of confounding factors. Concretely, we propose the Feature-Separation-based Causal Intervention (FSCI) framework for generalizable gaze estimation. The FSCI framework first separates gaze features from gaze-irrelevant features. To alleviate the impact of gaze-irrelevant factors during training, the FSCI framework further implements causal intervention by averaging gaze-irrelevant features using the proposed Dynamic Confounder Bank strategy. Experiments show that the proposed FSCI framework outperforms SOTA gaze estimation methods in varies cross-domain settings, improving cross-domain accuracies by up to 36.2% over the baseline and 11.5% over SOTA methods, respectively, without touching target domain data."

展开摘要

"Source-free domain adaptation aims to adapt a source-trained model to an unlabeled target domain without access to the source data. It has attracted growing attention in recent years, where existing approaches focus on self-training that usually includes pseudo-labeling techniques. In this paper, we introduce a novel noise-learning approach tailored to address noise distribution in domain adaptation settings and learn to de-confuse the pseudo-labels. More specifically, we learn a noise transition matrix of the pseudo-labels to capture the label corruption of each class and learn the underlying true label distribution. Estimating the noise transition matrix enables a better true class-posterior estimation, resulting in better prediction accuracy. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach when combined with several source-free domain adaptation methods: SHOT, SHOT++, and AaD. We obtain state-of-the-art results on three domain adaptation datasets: VisDA, DomainNet, and OfficeHome."

展开摘要

"Progress in 3D computer vision tasks demands a huge amount of data, yet annotating multi-view images with 3D-consistent annotations, or point clouds with part segmentation is both time-consuming and challenging. This paper introduces DatasetNeRF, a novel approach capable of generating infinite, high-quality 3D-consistent 2D annotations alongside 3D point cloud segmentations, while utilizing minimal 2D human-labeled annotations. Specifically, we leverage the semantic prior within a 3D generative model to train a semantic decoder, requiring only a handful of fine-grained labeled samples. Once trained, the decoder generalizes across the latent space, enabling the generation of infinite data. The generated data is applicable across various computer vision tasks, including video segmentation and 3D point cloud segmentation in both synthetic and real-world scenarios. Our approach not only surpasses baseline models in segmentation quality, achieving superior 3D-Consistency and segmentation precision on individual images, but also demonstrates versatility by being applicable to both articulated and non-articulated generative models. Furthermore, we explore applications stemming from our approach, such as 3D-aware semantic editing and 3D inversion. Code can be found at /GenIntel/DatasetNeRF."

Dataset Quantization with Active Learning based Adaptive Sampling

展开摘要

"Deep learning has made remarkable progress recently, largely due to the availability of large, well-labeled datasets. However, the training on such datasets elevates costs and computational demands. To address this, various techniques like coreset selection, dataset distillation, and dataset quantization have been explored in the literature. Unlike traditional techniques that depend on uniform sample distributions across different classes, our research demonstrates that maintaining performance is feasible even with uneven distributions. We find that for certain classes, the variation in sample quantity has a minimal impact on performance. Inspired by this observation, an intuitive idea is to reduce the number of samples for stable classes and increase the number of samples for sensitive classes to achieve a better performance with the same sampling ratio. Then the question arises: how can we adaptively select samples from a dataset to achieve optimal performance? In this paper, we propose a novel active learning based adaptive sampling strategy, Dataset Quantization with Active Learning based Adaptive Sampling (DQAS), to optimize the sample selection. In addition, we introduce a novel pipeline for dataset quantization, utilizing feature space from the final stage of dataset quantization to generate more precise dataset bins. Our comprehensive evaluations on the multiple datasets show that our approach outperforms the state-of-the-art dataset compression methods. Code will be available at https://github.com/ichbill/DQAS."

展开摘要

"Deep learning benefits from the growing abundance of available data. Meanwhile, efficiently dealing with the growing data scale has become a challenge. Data publicly available are from different sources with various qualities, and it is impractical to do manual cleaning against noise and redundancy given today’s data scale. There are existing techniques for cleaning/selecting the collected data. However, these methods are mainly proposed for offline settings that target one of the cleanness and redundancy problems. In practice, data are growing exponentially with both problems. This leads to repeated data curation with sub-optimal efficiency. To tackle this challenge, we propose InfoGrowth, an efficient online algorithm for data cleaning and selection, resulting in a growing dataset that keeps up to date with awareness of cleanliness and diversity. InfoGrowth can improve data quality/efficiency on both single-modal and multi-modal tasks, with an efficient and scalable design. Its framework makes it practical for real-world data engines."

Dataset Enhancement with Instance-Level Augmentations

展开摘要

"We present a method for expanding a dataset by incorporating knowledge from the wide distribution of pre-trained latent diffusion models. Data augmentations typically incorporate inductive biases about the image formation process into the training (e.g. translation, scaling, colour changes, etc.). Here, we go beyond simple pixel transformations and introduce the concept of instance-level data augmentation by repainting parts of the image at the level of object instances. The method combines a conditional diffusion model with depth and edge maps control conditioning to seamlessly repaint individual objects inside the scene, being applicable to any segmentation or detection dataset. Used as a data augmentation method, it improves the performance and generalization of the state-of-the-art salient object detection, semantic segmentation and object detection models. By redrawing all privacy-sensitive instances (people, license plates, etc.), the method is also applicable for data anonymization. We also release fully synthetic and anonymized expansions for popular datasets: COCO, Pascal VOC and DUTS. The project page is available here."

Dataset Distillation by Automatic Training Trajectories

Dai Liu*, Jindong Gu, Hu Cao, Carsten Trinitis, Martin Schulz

展开摘要

"Dataset Distillation is used to create a concise, yet informative, synthetic dataset that can replace the original dataset for training purposes. Some leading methods in this domain prioritize long-range matching, involving the unrolling of training trajectories with a fixed number of steps (NS ) on the synthetic dataset to align with various expert training trajectories. However, traditional long-range matching methods possess an overfitting-like problem, the fixed step size NS forces synthetic dataset to distortedly conform seen expert training trajectories, resulting in a loss of generality—especially to those from unencountered architecture. We refer to this as the Accumulated Mismatching Problem (AMP), and propose a new approach, Automatic Training Trajectories (ATT), which dynamically and adaptively adjusts trajectory length NS to address the AMP. Our method outperforms existing methods particularly in tests involving cross-architectures. Moreover, owing to its adaptive nature, it exhibits enhanced stability in the face of parameter variations. Our source code is publicly available at https: //github.com/NiaLiu/ATT"

展开摘要

"While text-to-image diffusion models have been shown to achieve state-of-the-art results in image synthesis, they have yet to prove their effectiveness in downstream applications. Previous work has proposed to generate data for image classifier training given limited real data access. However, these methods struggle to generate in-distribution images or depict fine-grained features, thereby hindering the generalization of classification models trained on synthetic datasets. We propose DataDream, a framework for synthesizing classification datasets that more faithfully represents the real data distribution when guided by few-shot examples of the target classes. DataDream fine-tunes LoRA weights for the image generation model on the few real images before generating the training data using the adapted model. We then fine-tune LoRA weights for CLIP using the synthetic data to improve downstream image classification over previous approaches on a large variety of datasets. We demonstrate the efficacy of DataDream through extensive experiments, surpassing state-of-the-art classification accuracy with few-shot data across 7 out of 10 datasets, while being competitive on the other 3. Additionally, we provide insights into the impact of various factors, such as the number of real-shot and generated images as well as the fine-tuning compute on model performance. 展开摘要

"Dataset distillation aims to distill the knowledge of a large-scale real dataset into small yet informative synthetic data such that a model trained on it performs as well as a model trained on the full dataset. Despite recent progress, existing dataset distillation methods often struggle with computational efficiency, scalability to complex high-resolution datasets, and generalizability to deep architectures. These approaches typically require retraining when the distillation ratio changes, as knowledge is embedded in raw pixels. In this paper, we propose a novel framework called Data-to-Model Distillation (D2M) to distill the real dataset’s knowledge into the learnable parameters of a pre-trained generative model by aligning rich representations extracted from real and generated images. The learned generative model can then produce informative training images for different distillation ratios and deep architectures. Extensive experiments on 15 datasets of varying resolutions show D2M’s superior performance, re-distillation efficiency, and cross-architecture generalizability. Our method effectively scales up to high-resolution 128×128 ImageNet-1K. Furthermore, we verify D2M’s practical benefits for downstream applications in neural architecture search."

Data Poisoning Quantization Backdoor Attack

展开摘要

"Deep learning (DL) models are often large and require a lot of computing power. Hence, model quantization is frequently used to reduce their size and complexity, making them more suitable for deployment on edge devices or achieving real-time performance. It has been previously shown that standard quantization frameworks can be exploited to activate the backdoor in a DL model. This means that an attacker could create a hijacked model that appears normal and free from backdoors (even when examined by state-of-the-art defenses), but when it is quantized, the backdoor is activated, and the attacker can control the model’s output. Existing backdoor attack methods on quantization models require full access to the victim model, which might not hold in practice. In this work, we focus on designing a novel quantization backdoor based on data poisoning, which requires zero knowledge of the target model. The key component is a trigger pattern generator, which is trained together with a surrogate model in an alternating manner. The attack’s effectiveness is tested on multiple benchmark datasets, including CIFAR10, CelebA, and ImageNet10, as well as state-of-the-art backdoor defenses."

展开摘要

"Deep neural networks (DNNs) are frequently employed in a variety of computer vision applications. Nowadays, an emerging trend in the current video distribution system is to take advantage of DNN’s overfitting properties to perform video resolution upscaling. By splitting videos into chunks and applying a super-resolution (SR) model to overfit each chunk, this scheme of SR models plus video chunks is able to replace traditional video transmission to enhance video quality and transmission efficiency. However, many models and chunks are needed to guarantee high performance, which leads to tremendous overhead on model switching and memory footprints at the user end. To resolve such problems, we propose a Dynamic Deep neural network assisted by a Content-Aware data processing pipeline to reduce the model number down to one (Dy-DCA), which helps promote performance while conserving computational resources. Additionally, to achieve real acceleration on the user end, we designed a framework that optimizes dynamic features (e.g., dynamic shapes, sizes, and control flow) in Dy-DCA to enable a series of compilation optimizations, including fused code generation, static execution planning, etc. By employing such techniques, our method achieves better PSNR and real-time performance (33 FPS) on an off-the-shelf mobile phone. Meanwhile, assisted by our compilation optimization, we achieve a 1.7× speedup while saving up to 1.61× memory consumption. Code available in https://github.com/coulsonlee/Dy-DCA-ECCV2024."

Data Collection-free Masked Video Modeling

展开摘要

"Pre-training video transformers generally requires a large amount of data, presenting significant challenges in terms of data collection costs and concerns related to privacy, licensing, and inherent biases. Synthesizing data is one of the promising ways to solve these issues, yet pre-training solely on synthetic data has its own challenges. In this paper, we introduce an effective self-supervised learning framework for videos that leverages readily available and less costly static images. Specifically, we define the Pseudo Motion Generator (PMG) module that recursively applies image transformations to generate pseudo-motion videos from images. These pseudo-motion videos are then leveraged in masked video modeling. Our approach is applicable to synthetic images as well, thus entirely freeing video pre-training from data collection costs and other concerns in real data. Through experiments in action recognition tasks, we demonstrate that this framework allows effective learning of spatio-temporal features through pseudo-motion videos, significantly improving over existing methods which also use static images and partially outperforming those using both real and synthetic videos. These results uncover fragments of what video transformers learn through masked video modeling."

Data Augmentation via Latent Diffusion for Saliency Prediction

展开摘要

"Saliency prediction models are constrained by the limited diversity and quantity of labeled data. Standard data augmentation techniques such as rotating and cropping alter scene composition, affecting saliency. We propose a novel data augmentation method for deep saliency prediction that edits natural images while preserving the complexity and variability of real-world scenes. Since saliency depends on high-level and low-level features, our approach involves learning both by incorporating photometric and semantic attributes such as color, contrast, brightness, and class. To that end, we introduce a saliency-guided cross-attention mechanism that enables targeted edits on the photometric properties, thereby enhancing saliency within specific image regions. Experimental results show that our data augmentation method consistently improves the performance of various saliency models. Moreover, leveraging the augmentation features for saliency prediction yields superior performance on publicly available saliency benchmarks. Our predictions align closely with human visual attention patterns in the edited images, as validated by a user study. Our code is publicly available on GitHub1 ."

展开摘要

"Neuromorphic sensors, specifically event cameras, revolutionize visual data acquisition by capturing pixel intensity changes with exceptional dynamic range, minimal latency, and energy efficiency, setting them apart from conventional frame-based cameras. The distinctive capabilities of event cameras have ignited significant interest in the domain of event-based action recognition, recognizing their vast potential for advancement. However, the development in this field is currently slowed by the lack of comprehensive, large-scale datasets, which are critical for developing robust recognition frameworks. To bridge this gap, we introduces DailyDVS-200 , a meticulously curated benchmark dataset tailored for the event-based action recognition community. DailyDVS-200 is extensive, covering 200 action categories across real-world scenarios, recorded by 47 participants, and comprises more than 22,000 event sequences. This dataset is designed to reflect a broad spectrum of action types, scene complexities, and data acquisition diversity. Each sequence in the dataset is annotated with 14 attributes, ensuring a detailed characterization of the recorded actions. Moreover, DailyDVS-200 is structured to facilitate a wide range of research paths, offering a solid foundation for both validating existing approaches and inspiring novel methodologies. By setting a new benchmark in the field, we challenge the current limitations of neuromorphic data processing and invite a surge of new approaches in event-based action recognition techniques, which paves the way for future explorations in neuromorphic computing and beyond. The dataset and source code are available at https://github.com/QiWang233/DailyDVS-200."

DVLO: Deep Visual-LiDAR Odometry with Local-to-Global Feature Fusion and Bi-Directional Structure Alignment

展开摘要

"Information inside visual and LiDAR data is well complementary derived from the fine-grained texture of images and massive geometric information in point clouds. However, it remains challenging to explore effective visual-LiDAR fusion, mainly due to the intrinsic data structure inconsistency between two modalities: Image pixels are regular and dense, but LiDAR points are unordered and sparse. To address the problem, we propose a local-to-global fusion network (DVLO) with bi-directional structure alignment. To obtain locally fused features, we project points onto the image plane as cluster centers and cluster image pixels around each center. Image pixels are pre-organized as pseudo points for image-to-point structure alignment. Then, we convert points to pseudo images by cylindrical projection (point-to-image structure alignment) and perform adaptive global feature fusion between point features and local fused features. Our method achieves state-of-the-art performance on KITTI odometry and FlyingThings3D scene flow datasets compared to both single-modal and multi-modal methods. Codes are released at https://github.com/IRMVLab/DVLO."

DSMix: Distortion-Induced Saliency Map Based Pre-training for No-Reference Image Quality Assessment

Jinsong Shi, Pan Gao, Xiaojiang Peng, Jie Qin

展开摘要

"Image quality assessment (IQA) has long been a fundamental challenge in image understanding. In recent years, deep learning-based IQA methods have shown promising performance. However, the lack of large amounts of labeled data in the IQA field has hindered further advancements of these methods. This paper introduces DSMix, a novel data augmentation technique specifically designed for IQA tasks, aiming to overcome this limitation. DSMix leverages the distortion-induced sensitivity map (DSM) of an image as prior knowledge. It applies cut and mix operations to diverse categories of synthetic distorted images, assigning confidence scores to class labels based on the aforementioned prior knowledge. In the pre-training phase using DSMix-augmented data, knowledge distillation is employed to enhance the model’s ability to extract semantic features. Experimental results on both synthetic and authentic IQA datasets demonstrate the significant predictive and generalization performance achieved by DSMix, without requiring fine-tuning of the full model. Code is available at https://github.com/I2-Multimedia-Lab/DSMix."

DSA: Discriminative Scatter Analysis for Early Smoke Segmentation

Lujian Yao, Haitao Zhao, Jingchao Peng, Zhongze Wang, Kaijie Zhao

展开摘要

"Early smoke segmentation (ESS) plays a crucial role in accurately locating the source of smoke, facilitating prompt fire rescue operations and gas leak detection. Unlike regular objects, which are typically rigid, opaque, and have clear boundaries, ESS presents challenges due to the large areas of high transparency in early smoke. This leads to a significant similarity between smoke features and the surrounding background features. The key solution is to obtain a discriminative embedding space. Some distance-based methods have pursued this goal by using specific loss functions (e.g., pair-based Triplet loss and proxy-based NCA loss) to constrain the feature extractor. In this paper, we propose a novel approach called discriminative scatter analysis (DSA). Instead of solely measuring Euclidean distance, DSA assesses the compactness and separation of the embedding space from a sample scatter perspective. DSA is performed on both pixel-proxy scatter (IOS) and proxy-proxy scatter (OOS), and a unified loss function is designed to optimize the feature extractor. DSA can be easily integrated with regular segmentation methods. It is applied only during training and without incurring any additional computational cost during inference. Extensive experiments have demonstrated that DSA can consistently improve the performance of various models in ESS."

DQ-DETR: DETR with Dynamic Query for Tiny Object Detection

Yi-Xin Huang*, Hou-I Liu, Hong-Han Shuai, Wen-Huang Cheng

展开摘要

"Despite previous DETR-like methods having performed successfully in generic object detection, tiny object detection is still a challenging task for them since the positional information of object queries is not customized for detecting tiny objects, whose scale is extraordinarily smaller than general objects. Additionally, the fixed number of queries used in DETR-like methods makes them unsuitable for detection if the number of instances is imbalanced between different images. Thus, we present a simple yet effective model, DQ-DETR, consisting of three components: categorical counting module, counting-guided feature enhancement, and dynamic query selection to solve the above-mentioned problems. DQ-DETR uses the prediction and density maps from the categorical counting module to dynamically adjust the number and positional information of object queries. Our model DQ-DETR outperforms previous CNN-based and DETR-like methods, achieving state-of-the-art mAP 30.2% on the AI-TOD-V2 dataset, which mostly consists of tiny objects. Our code will be available at https://github.com/ Katie0723/DQ-DETR."

DPA-Net: Structured 3D Abstraction from Sparse Views via Differentiable Primitive Assembly

Fenggen Yu, Yiming Qian, Xu Zhang, Francisca Gil-Ureta, Brian Jackson, Eric Bennett, Hao Zhang

展开摘要

"We present a differentiable rendering framework to learn structured 3D abstractions in the form of primitive assemblies from sparse RGB images capturing a 3D object. By leveraging differentiable volume rendering, our method does not require 3D supervision. Architecturally, our network follows the general pipeline of an image-conditioned neural radiance field (NeRF) exemplified by pixelNeRF for color prediction. As our core contribution, we introduce differential primitive assembly (DPA) into NeRF to output a 3D occupancy field in place of density prediction, where the predicted occupancies serve as opacity values for volume rendering. Our network, coined DPA-Net, produces a union of convexes, each as an intersection of convex quadric primitives, to approximate the target 3D object, subject to an abstraction loss and a masking loss, both defined in the image space upon volume rendering. With test-time adaptation and additional sampling and loss designs aimed at improving the accuracy and compactness of the obtained assemblies, our method demonstrates superior performance over state-of-the-art alternatives for 3D primitive abstraction from sparse views."
