展开摘要

"Data plays a crucial role in training learning-based methods for 3D point cloud registration. However, the real-world dataset is expensive to build, while rendering-based synthetic data suffers from domain gaps. In this work, we present , boosting 3D Point cloud Registration using Generative Point-cloud pairs for Training. Given a single depth map, we first apply a random camera motion to re-project it into a target depth map. Converting them to point clouds gives a training pair. To enhance the data realism, we formulate a generative model as a depth inpainting diffusion to process the target depth map with the re-projected source depth map as the condition. Also, we design a depth correction module to alleviate artifacts caused by point penetration during the re-projection. To our knowledge, this is the first generative approach that explores realistic data generation for indoor 3D point cloud registration. When equipped with our approach, several recent algorithms can improve their performance significantly and achieve SOTA consistently on two common benchmarks. The code and dataset will be released on https://github.com/Chen-Suyi/PointRegGPT."

展开摘要

"The unprecedented advancements in Large Language Models (LLMs) have shown a profound impact on natural language processing but are yet to fully embrace the realm of 3D understanding. This paper introduces PointLLM, a preliminary effort to fill this gap, empowering LLMs to understand point clouds and offering a new avenue beyond 2D data. PointLLM understands colored object point clouds with human instructions and generates contextually appropriate responses, illustrating its grasp of point clouds and common sense. Specifically, it leverages a point cloud encoder with a powerful LLM to effectively fuse geometric, appearance, and linguistic information. To overcome the scarcity of point-text instruction following data, we developed an automated data generation pipeline, collecting a large-scale dataset of more than 730K samples with 660K different objects, which facilitates the adoption of the two-stage training strategy prevalent in MLLM development. Additionally, we address the absence of appropriate benchmarks and the limitations of current evaluation metrics by proposing two novel benchmarks: Generative 3D Object Classification and 3D Object Captioning, which are supported by new, comprehensive evaluation metrics derived from human and GPT analyses. Through exploring various training strategies, we develop PointLLM, significantly surpassing 2D and 3D baselines, with a notable achievement in human-evaluated object captioning tasks where it surpasses human annotators in over 50% of the samples. Codes, datasets, and benchmarks are available at https://github.com/OpenRobotLab/PointLLM."

Point-supervised Panoptic Segmentation via Estimating Pseudo Labels from Learnable Distance

Jing Li, Junsong Fan, Zhaoxiang Zhang

展开摘要

"To bridge the gap between point labels and per-pixel labels, existing point-supervised panoptic segmentation methods usually estimate dense pseudo labels by assigning unlabeled pixels to corresponding instances according to rule-based pixel-to-instance distances. These distances cannot be optimized by point labels end to end and are usually suboptimal, which result in inaccurate pseudo labels. Here we propose to assign unlabeled pixels to corresponding instances based on a learnable distance. Specifically, we represent each instance as an anchor query, then predict the pixel-to-instance distance based on the cross-attention between anchor queries and pixel features through a distance branch, the predicted distance is supervised by point labels end to end. In order that each query can accurately represent the corresponding instance, we iteratively improve anchor queries through query aggregating and query enhancing processes, then improved distance results and pseudo labels are predicted with these queries. We have experimentally demonstrated the effectiveness of our approach and achieved state-of-the-art results."

展开摘要

"Plug-and-Play algorithms (PnP) have recently emerged as a powerful framework for solving inverse problems in imaging. They leverage the power of Gaussian denoising algorithms to solve complex optimization problems. This work focuses on the challenging task of 3D sparse-view X-ray computed tomography (CT). We propose to replace the Gaussian denoising network in Plug-and-Play with a restoration network, a network trained to remove arbitrary artifacts. We show that using a restoration prior tailored to the specific inverse problem improves the performances of Plug-and-Play algorithms. Besides, we show that plugging a basic restoration network into a PnP scheme is not sufficient to obtain good results. Thus, we propose a procedure to train the restoration network to be a robust approximation of a proximal operator along a pre-defined optimization trajectory. We demonstrate the effectiveness and scalability of our approach on two 3D Cone-Beam CT datasets and outperform state-of-the-art methods in terms of PSNR. Code is available at https://github.com/romainvo/pnp-learned-proximal-trajectory."

展开摘要

"Sharing intermediate neural features enables agents to effectively see through occlusions. Due to agent diversity, some pioneering works have studied domain adaption for heterogeneous neural features. Nevertheless, these works all partially replace agents’ private neural network with newly trained components, which breaks the model integrity and bidirectional compatibility of agents. In this paper, we consider an open challenge: how to learn non-destructive domain adapters for heterogeneous legacy models to achieve collaborative perception, while compatible with continually emerging new agent models? To overcome this challenge, we propose the first plug-and-play domain adapter (PnPDA) for heterogeneous collaborative perception. PnPDA builds a semantic calibrator based on contrastive learning to supervise domain gap bridging without destructing the original models. Semantic converter is learned to transform the semantic space of features, while semantic enhancer is utilized to enhance the representation of features. By specifying standard semantics, new models with PnPDA can easily join existing collaborations. Extensive experiments on OPV2V dataset show that PnPDA non-destructively bridges the domain gap and outperforms SOTA by 9.13%. The code is available at: https://github.com/luotianyou349/PnPDA."

展开摘要

"Reading text from images (either natural scenes or documents) has been a long-standing research topic for decades, due to the high technical challenge and wide application range. Previously, individual specialist models are developed to tackle the sub-tasks of text reading (e.g., scene text recognition, handwritten text recognition and mathematical expression recognition). However, such specialist models usually cannot effectively generalize across different sub-tasks. Recently, generalist models (such as GPT-4V), trained on tremendous data in a unified way, have shown enormous potential in reading text in various scenarios, but with the drawbacks of limited accuracy and low efficiency. In this work, we propose Platypus, a generalized specialist model for text reading. Specifically, Platypus combines the best of both worlds: being able recognize text of various forms with a single unified architecture, while achieving excellent accuracy and high efficiency. To better exploit the advantage of Platypus, we also construct a text reading dataset (called Worms), the images of which are curated from previous datasets and partially re-labeled. Experiments on standard benchmarks demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed Platypus model. Model and data will be made publicly available at magentaAdvancedLiterateMachinery."

展开摘要

"Recent advancements in large-scale foundational models have sparked widespread interest in training highly proficient large vision models. A common consensus revolves around the necessity of aggregating extensive, high-quality annotated data. However, given the inherent challenges in annotating dense tasks in computer vision, such as object detection and segmentation, a practical strategy is to combine and leverage all available data for training purposes. In this work, we propose Plain-Det, which offers flexibility to accommodate new datasets, robustness in performance across diverse datasets, training efficiency, and compatibility with various detection architectures. We utilize Def-DETR, with the assistance of Plain-Det, to achieve a mAP of 51.9 on COCO, matching the current state-of-the-art detectors. We conduct extensive experiments on 13 downstream datasets and Plain-Det demonstrates strong generalization capability. Code is release at https://github.com/ChengShiest/Plain-Det."

展开摘要

"When deploying a semantic segmentation model into the real world, it will inevitably encounter semantic classes that were not seen during training. To ensure a safe deployment of such systems, it is crucial to accurately evaluate and improve their anomaly segmentation capabilities. However, acquiring and labelling semantic segmentation data is expensive and unanticipated conditions are long-tail and potentially hazardous. Indeed, existing anomaly segmentation datasets capture a limited number of anomalies, lack realism or have strong domain shifts. In this paper, we propose the Placing Objects in Context (POC) pipeline to realistically add any object into any image via diffusion models. POC can be used to easily extend any dataset with an arbitrary number of objects. In our experiments, we present different anomaly segmentation datasets based on POC-generated data and show that POC can improve the performance of recent state-of-the-art anomaly fine-tuning methods across several standardized benchmarks. POC is also effective for learning new classes. For example, we utilize it to augment Cityscapes samples by incorporating a subset of Pascal classes and demonstrate that models trained on such data achieve comparable performance to the Pascal-trained baseline. This corroborates the low synth2real gap of models trained on POC-generated images. Code: https://github.com/ naver/poc"

Pixel-GS Density Control with Pixel-aware Gradient for 3D Gaussian Splatting

Zheng Zhang, Wenbo Hu, Yixing Lao, Tong He, Hengshuang Zhao

展开摘要

"3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has demonstrated impressive novel view synthesis results and advancing real-time rendering performance. However, the effectiveness of 3DGS heavily relies on the quality of the initial point cloud, as poor initialization can result in blurring and needle-like artifacts. This issue is mainly due to the point cloud growth condition, which only considers the average gradient magnitude of points from observable views, thereby failing to grow for large Gaussians that are observable from many viewpoints while many of them are only covered in the boundaries. To address this, we introduce Pixel-GS to take the area covered by the Gaussian in each view into account during the computation of the growth condition. The covered area is employed to adaptively weigh the gradients from different views, thereby facilitating the growth of large Gaussians. Consequently, Gaussians within the regions with insufficient initializing points can grow more effectively, leading to a more accurate and detailed reconstruction. Besides, we propose a simple yet effective strategy to suppress floaters near the camera by scaling the gradient field according to the distance to the camera. Extensive qualitative and quantitative experiments validate that our method achieves state-of-the-art rendering quality while maintaining real-time rendering, on challenging datasets such as Mip-NeRF 360 and Tanks & Temples. Pixel-Aware Stable Diffusion for Realistic Image Super-Resolution and Personalized Stylization

展开摘要

"Diffusion models have demonstrated impressive performance in various image generation, editing, enhancement and translation tasks. In particular, the pre-trained text-to-image stable diffusion models provide a potential solution to the challenging realistic image super-resolution (Real-ISR) and image stylization problems with their strong generative priors. However, the existing methods along this line often fail to keep faithful pixel-wise image structures. If extra skip connections between the encoder and the decoder of a VAE are used to reproduce details, additional training in image space will be required, limiting the application to tasks in latent space such as image stylization. In this work, we propose a pixel-aware stable diffusion (PASD) network to achieve robust Real-ISR and personalized image stylization. Specifically, a pixel-aware cross attention module is introduced to enable diffusion models perceiving image local structures in pixel-wise level, while a degradation removal module is used to extract degradation insensitive features to guide the diffusion process together with image high level information. An adjustable noise schedule is introduced to further improve the image restoration results. By simply replacing the base diffusion model with a stylized one, PASD can generate diverse stylized images without collecting pairwise training data, and by shifting the base model with an aesthetic one, PASD can bring old photos back to life. Extensive experiments in a variety of image enhancement and stylization tasks demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed PASD approach. Leveraging the foundational pre-training of , it evolves from the ‘weaker’ baseline to a ‘stronger’ model via incorporating higher quality data, a process we term “weak-to-strong training”. The advancements in are twofold: (1) High-Quality Training Data: incorporates superior-quality image data, paired with more precise and detailed image captions. (2) Efficient Token Compression: we propose a novel attention module within the DiT framework that compresses both keys and values, significantly improving efficiency and facilitating ultra-high-resolution image generation. Pix2Gif: Motion-Guided Diffusion for GIF Generation

Hitesh Kandala*, Jianfeng Gao, Jianwei Yang

展开摘要

"We present Pix2Gif, a motion-guided diffusion model for image-to-GIF (video) generation. We tackle this problem differently by formulating the task as an image translation problem steered by text and motion magnitude prompts, as shown in Fig. ??. To ensure that the model adheres to motion guidance, we propose a new motion-guided warping module to spatially transform the features of the source image conditioned on the two types of prompts. Furthermore, we introduce a perceptual loss to ensure the transformed feature map remains within the same space as the target image, ensuring content consistency and coherence. In preparation for the model training, we meticulously curated data by extracting coherent image frames from the TGIF video-caption dataset, which provides rich information about the temporal changes of subjects. After pretraining, we apply our model in a zero-shot manner to a number of video datasets. Extensive qualitative and quantitative experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our model – it not only captures the semantic prompt from text but also the spatial ones from motion guidance. We train all our models using a single node of 16×V100 GPUs."

Pick-a-back: Selective Device-to-Device Knowledge Transfer in Federated Continual Learning

展开摘要

"With the explosion of edge intelligence, leveraging federated indirect knowledge has become crucial for boosting the tasks of individual learners. However, the conventional approach to knowledge reuse often leads to catastrophic forgetting issues. In this paper, we revisit the concept of continual learning in the context of edge intelligence and address the knowledge transfer problem to enhance federated continual learning. Since each learner processes private heterogeneous data, we propose Pick-a-back, a device-to-device knowledge federation framework by selectively reusing the external knowledge with similar behavioral patterns. By borrowing indirect experiences, an edge device can initiate learning from useful knowledge and thus achieve faster yet more generalized knowledge acquisition. Using continual tasks consisting of various datasets on lightweight architectures, we have validated that Pick-a-back provides a significant inference improvement of up to 8.0% via selective knowledge federation. 展开摘要

"Fueled by the Large Language Models (LLMs) wave, Large Visual-Language Models (LVLMs) have emerged as a pivotal advancement, bridging the gap between image and text. However, video making it challenging for LVLMs to perform adequately due to the complexity of the relationship between language and spatial-temporal data structure. Recent Large Video-Language Models (LVidLMs) align feature of static visual data like image into latent space of language feature, by general multi-modal tasks to leverage abilities of LLMs sufficiently. In this paper, we explore fine-grained alignment approach via object trajectory for different modalities across both spatial and temporal dimensions simultaneously. Thus, we propose a novel LVidLM by trajectory-guided Pixel-Temporal Alignment, dubbed PiTe, that exhibits promising applicable model property. To achieve fine-grained video-language alignment, we curate a multi-modal pre-training dataset PiTe-143k, the dataset provision of moving trajectories in pixel level for all individual objects, that appear and mention in the video and caption both, by our automatic annotation pipeline. 展开摘要

"Compared to the in-air case, underwater depth estimation has its own challenges. For instance, acquiring high-quality training datasets with groundtruth poses difficulties due to sensor limitations in aquatic environments. Additionally, the physics characteristics of underwater imaging diverge significantly from the in-air case, the methods developed for in-air depth estimation underperform when applied underwater, due to the domain gap. To address these challenges, our paper introduces a novel transfer-learning-based method - Physics-informed Underwater Depth Estimation (PUDE). The key idea is to transfer the knowledge of a pre-trained in-air depth estimation model to underwater settings utilizing a small underwater image set without groundtruth measurement, guided by a physical underwater imaging formation model. We propose novel bound losses based on the physical model to rectify the depth estimations to align with actual underwater physical properties. Finally, in the evaluations across multiple datasets, we compare PUDE model with other existing in-air and underwater methods. The results reveal that the PUDE model excels in both quantitative and qualitative comparisons."

"In this paper, we present a groundbreaking spectrally multiplexed photometric stereo approach for recovering surface normals of dynamic surfaces without the need for calibrated lighting or sensors, a notable advancement in the field traditionally hindered by stringent prerequisites and spectral ambiguity. By embracing spectral ambiguity as an advantage, our technique enables the generation of training data without specialized multispectral rendering frameworks. We introduce a unique, physics-free network architecture, SpectraM-PS, that effectively processes multiplexed images to determine surface normals across a wide range of conditions and material types, without relying on specific physically-based knowledge. 展开摘要

"Realistic object interactions are crucial for creating immersive virtual experiences, yet synthesizing realistic 3D object dynamics in response to novel interactions remains a significant challenge. Unlike unconditional or text-conditioned dynamics generation, action-conditioned dynamics requires perceiving the physical material properties of objects and grounding the 3D motion prediction on these properties, such as object stiffness. However, estimating physical material properties is an open problem due to the lack of material ground-truth data, as measuring these properties for real objects is highly difficult. We present , a physics-based approach that endows static 3D objects with interactive dynamics by leveraging the object dynamics priors learned by video generation models. By distilling these priors, enables the synthesis of realistic object responses to novel interactions, such as external forces or agent manipulations. We demonstrate our approach on diverse examples of elastic objects and evaluate the realism of the synthesized interactions through a user study. takes a step towards more engaging and realistic virtual experiences by enabling static 3D objects to dynamically respond to interactive stimuli in a physically plausible manner. Physically Plausible Color Correction for Neural Radiance Fields

Qi Zhang, Ying Feng, Hongdong Li

展开摘要

"Neural Radiance Fields have become the representation of choice for many 3D computer vision and computer graphics applications, , novel view synthesis and 3D reconstruction. Multi-camera systems are commonly used as the image capture setup in NeRF-based multi-view tasks such as dynamic scene acquisition or realistic avatar animation. However, a critical issue that has often been overlooked in this setup is the evident differences in color responses among multiple cameras, which adversely affect the NeRF reconstruction performance. These color discrepancies among multiple input images stem from two aspects: 1) implicit properties of the scenes such as reflections and shadings, and 2) external differences in camera settings and lighting conditions. In this paper, we address this problem by proposing a novel color correction module that simulates the physical color processing in cameras to be embedded in NeRF, enabling the unified color NeRF reconstruction. Besides the view-independent color correction module for external differences, we predict a view-dependent function to minimize the color residual (including, , specular and shading) to eliminate the impact of inherent attributes. We further describe how the method can be extended with a reference image as guidance to achieve aesthetically plausible color consistency and color translation on novel views. Experiments validate that our method is superior to baseline methods in both quantitative and qualitative evaluations of color correction and color consistency."

展开摘要

"Existing event camera simulators primarily focus on the process of generating video events and often overlook the entire optical path in real-world camera systems. To address this limitation, we propose a novel Physical-based Event Camera Simulator (PECS), which is able to generate a high-fidelity realistic event stream by directly interfacing with the 3D scene. Our PECS features a lens simulation block for accurate light-to-sensor chip replication and a multispectral rendering module for precise photocurrent generation. We present two spatiotemporal event metrics to assess the similarity between simulated and actual camera events. Experimental results demonstrate that our PECS outperforms four state-of-the-art simulators by a large margin in terms of event-based signal fidelity. We integrate our PECS into the UE platform to generate extensive multi-task synthetic datasets and evaluate its effectiveness in downstream vision tasks (e.g., video reconstruction). Our open-source code is available at https: //github.com/lanpokn/PECS_trail_version."
