Learning Person-Specific Animatable Face Models from In-the-Wild Images via a Shared Base Model

Yuxiang Mao, Zhenfeng Fan, Zhijie Zhang, Zhiheng Zhang, Shihong Xia

展开摘要

Training a generic 3D face reconstruction model in a self-supervised manner using large-scale, in-the-wild 2D face image datasets enhances robustness to varying lighting conditions and occlusions while allowing the model to capture animatable wrinkle details across diverse facial expressions. However, a generic model often fails to adequately represent the unique characteristics of specific individuals. In this paper, we propose a method to train a generic base model and then transfer it to yield person-specific models by integrating lightweight adapters within the large-parameter ViT-MAE base model. These person-specific models excel at capturing individual facial shapes and detailed features while preserving the robustness and prior knowledge of detail variations from the base model. During training, we introduce a silhouette vertex re-projection loss to address boundary "landmark marching" issues on the 3D face caused by pose variations. Additionally, we employ an innovative teacher-student loss to leverage the inherent strengths of UNet in feature boundary localization for training our detail MAE. Quantitative and qualitative experiments demonstrate that our approach achieves state-of-the-art performance in face alignment, detail accuracy, and richness. 展开摘要

Reconstructing the 3D shape of an object from a single-view image is a fundamental task in computer vision. Recent advances in differentiable rendering have enabled 3D reconstruction from image collections using only 2D annotations. However, these methods mainly focus on whole-object reconstruction and overlook object partonomy, which is essential for intelligent agents interacting with physical environments. This paper aims at learning partonomic 3D reconstruction from collections of images with only 2D annotations. Our goal is not only to reconstruct the shape of an object from a single-view image but also to decompose the shape into meaningful semantic parts. To handle the expanded solution space and frequent part occlusions in single-view images, we introduce a novel approach that represents, parses, and learns the structural compositionality of 3D objects. This approach comprises: (1) a compact and expressive compositional representation of object geometry, achieved through disentangled modeling of large shape variations, constituent parts, and detailed part deformations as multi-granularity neural fields; (2) a part transformer that recovers precise partonomic geometry and handles occlusions, through effective part-to-pixel grounding and part-to-part relational modeling; and (3) a 2D-supervised learning method that jointly learns the compositional representation and part transformer, by bridging object shape and parts, image synthesis, and differentiable rendering. Extensive experiments on ShapeNetPart, PartNet, and CUB-200-2011 demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach on both overall and partonomic reconstruction. Code, models, and data are avaliable at https://github.com/XiaoqianRuan1/Partonomic_Reconstruction.

展开摘要

Single-stream architectures using Vision Transformer (ViT) backbones show great potential for real-time UAV tracking recently. However, frequent occlusions from obstacles like buildings and trees expose a major drawback: these models often lack strategies to handle occlusions effectively. New methods are needed to enhance the occlusion resilience of single-stream ViT models in aerial tracking. In this work, we propose to learn Occlusion-Robust Representations (ORR) based on ViTs for UAV tracking by enforcing an invariance of the feature representation of a target with respect to random masking operations modeled by a spatial Cox process. Hopefully, this random masking approximately simulates target occlusions, thereby enabling us to learn ViTs that are robust to target occlusion for UAV tracking. This framework is termed ORTrack. Additionally, to facilitate real-time applications, we propose an Adaptive Feature-Based Knowledge Distillation (AFKD) method to create a more compact tracker, which adaptively mimics the behavior of the teacher model ORTrack according to the task's difficulty. This student model, dubbed ORTrack-D, retains much of ORTrack's performance while offering higher efficiency. Extensive experiments on multiple benchmarks validate the effectiveness of our method, demonstrating its state-of-the-art performance. Codes is available at https://github.com/wuyou3474/ORTrack.

展开摘要

Analyzing gigapixel Whole Slide Images (WSIs) is challenging due to the complex pathological tissue environment and the absence of target-driven domain knowledge. Previous methods incorporated pathological priors to mitigate this issue but relied on additional inference steps and specialized workflows, restricting scalability and the model's capacity to identify novel outcome-related factors. To address these challenges, we propose a plug-and-play Pathology-Aware Mixture-of-Experts (PAMoE) module, which based on mixture of experts to learn pathology-related knowledge and extract useful information. We train the experts to become 'specialists' in specific intratumoral tissues by learning to route each tissue to its mapped expert. In addition, to reduce the impact of irrelevant content on the model, we introduce a new routing rule that discards patches in which none of the experts express interest, which helps the model better capture the relationships between relevant patches. Through a comprehensive evaluation of PAMoE on survival task, we demonstrate that 1) Our module enhances the performance of baseline models in most cases, and 2) The sparse expert processing across different tissues enhances the learning of patch representations by addressing tissue heterogeneity.

展开摘要

Existing real-world image dehazing methods primarily attempt to fine-tune pre-trained models or adapt their inference procedures, thus heavily relying on the pre-trained models and associated training data. Moreover, restoring heavily distorted information under dense haze requires generative diffusion models, whose potential in dehazing remains underutilized partly due to their lengthy sampling processes. To address these limitations, we introduce a novel hazing-dehazing pipeline consisting of a Realistic Hazy Image Generation framework (HazeGen) and a Diffusion-based Dehazing framework (DiffDehaze). Specifically, HazeGen harnesses robust generative diffusion priors of real-world hazy images embedded in a pre-trained text-to-image diffusion model. By employing specialized hybrid training and blended sampling strategies, HazeGen produces realistic and diverse hazy images as high-quality training data for DiffDehaze. To alleviate the inefficiency and fidelity concerns associated with diffusion-based methods, DiffDehaze adopts an Accelerated Fidelity-Preserving Sampling process (AccSamp). The core of AccSamp is the Tiled Statistical Alignment Operation (AlignOp), which can provide a clean and faithful dehazing estimate within a small fraction of sampling steps to reduce complexity and enable effective fidelity guidance. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superior dehazing performance and visual quality of our approach over existing methods. 展开摘要

Controllable person image generation aims to generate a person image conditioned on reference images, allowing precise control over the person's appearance or pose. However, prior methods often distort fine-grained textural details from the reference image, despite achieving high overall image quality. We attribute these distortions to inadequate attention to corresponding regions in the reference image. To address this, we thereby propose learning flow fields in attention (Leffa), which explicitly guides the target query to attend to the correct reference key in the attention layer during training.Specifically, it is realized via a regularization loss on top of the attention map within a diffusion-based baseline. Our extensive experiments show that Leffa achieves state-of-the-art performance in controlling appearance (virtual try-on) and pose (pose transfer), significantly reducing fine-grained detail distortion while maintaining high image quality.Additionally, we show that our loss is model-agnostic and can be used to improve the performance of other diffusion models.

展开摘要

Video-based high-density crowd analysis and prediction has been a long-standing topic in computer vision. It is notoriously difficult due to, but not limited to, the lack of high-quality data and complex crowd dynamics. Consequently, it has been relatively under studied. In this paper, we propose a new approach that aims to learn from in-the-wild videos, often with low quality where it is difficult to track individuals or count heads. The key novelty is a new physics prior to model crowd dynamics. We model high-density crowds as active matter, a continumm with active particles subject to stochastic forces, named `crowd material'. Our physics model is combined with neural networks, resulting in a neural stochastic differential equation system which can mimic the complex crowd dynamics. Due to the lack of similar research, we adapt a range of existing methods which are close to ours, and other possible alternatives for comparison. Through exhaustive evaluation, we show our model outperforms existing methods in analyzing and forecasting extremely high-density crowds. Furthermore, since our model is a continuous-time physics model, it can be used for simulation and analysis, providing strong interpretability. This is categorically different from most deep learning methods, which are discrete-time models and black-boxes.

Learning Dynamic Collaborative Network for Semi-supervised 3D Vessel Segmentation

展开摘要

In this paper, we present a new dynamic collaborative network for semi-supervised 3D vessel segmentation, termed DiCo. Conventional mean teacher (MT) methods typically employ a static approach, where the roles of the teacher and student models are fixed. However, due to the complexity of 3D vessel data, the teacher model may not always outperform the student model, leading to cognitive biases that can limit performance. To address this issue, we propose a dynamic collaborative network that allows the two models to dynamically switch their teacher-student roles. Additionally, we introduce a multi-view integration module to capture various perspectives of the inputs, mirroring the way doctors conduct medical analysis. We also incorporate adversarial supervision to constrain the shape of the segmented vessels in unlabeled data. In this process, the 3D volume is projected into 2D views to mitigate the impact of label inconsistencies. Experiments demonstrate that our DiCo method sets new state-of-the-art performance on three 3D vessel segmentation benchmarks. The code repository address is https://github.com/xujiaommcome/DiCo.

展开摘要

Asymmetric retrieval is a typical scenario in real-world retrieval systems, where compatible models of varying capacities are deployed on platforms with different resource configurations. Existing methods generally train pre-defined networks or subnetworks with capacities specifically designed for pre-determined platforms, using compatible learning. Nevertheless, these methods suffer from limited flexibility for multi-platform deployment. For example, when introducing a new platform into the retrieval systems, developers have to train an additional model at an appropriate capacity that is compatible with existing models via backward-compatible learning. In this paper, we propose a Prunable Network with self-compatibility, which allows developers to generate compatible subnetworks at any desired capacity through post-training pruning. Thus it allows the creation of a sparse subnetwork matching the resources of the new platform without additional training. Specifically, we optimize both the architecture and weight of subnetworks at different capacities within a dense network in compatible learning. We also design a conflict-aware gradient integration scheme to handle the gradient conflicts between the dense network and subnetworks during compatible learning. Extensive experiments on diverse benchmarks and visual backbones demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. The code will be made publicly available.

Learning Bijective Surface Parameterization for Inferring Signed Distance Functions from Sparse Point Clouds with Grid Deformation

Takeshi Noda, Chao Chen, Junsheng Zhou, Weiqi Zhang, Yu-Shen Liu, Zhizhong Han

展开摘要

Inferring signed distance functions (SDFs) from sparse point clouds remains a challenge in surface reconstruction. The key lies in the lack of detailed geometric information in sparse point clouds, which is essential for learning a continuous field. To resolve this issue, we present a novel approach that learns a dynamic deformation network to predict SDFs in an end-to-end manner. To parameterize a continuous surface from sparse points, we propose a bijective surface parameterization (BSP) that learns the global shape from local patches. Specifically, we construct a bijective mapping for sparse points from the parametric domain to 3D local patches, integrating patches into the global surface. Meanwhile, we introduce grid deformation optimization (GDO) into the surface approximation to optimize the deformation of grid points and further refine the parametric surfaces. Experimental results on synthetic and real scanned datasets demonstrate that our method significantly outperforms the current state-of-the-art methods.

Learning Audio-guided Video Representation with Gated Attention for Video-Text Retrieval

Boseung Jeong, Jicheol Park, Sungyeon Kim, Suha Kwak

展开摘要

Video-text retrieval, the task of retrieving videos based on a textual query or vice versa, is of paramount importance for video understanding and multimodal information retrieval. Recent methods in this area rely primarily on visual and textual features and often ignore audio, although it helps enhance overall comprehension of video content. Moreover, traditional models that incorporate audio blindly utilize the audio input regardless of whether it is useful or not, resulting in suboptimal video representation. To address these limitations, we propose a novel video-text retrieval framework, Audio-guided VIdeo representation learning with GATEd attention (AVIGATE), that effectively leverages audio cues through a gated attention mechanism that selectively filters out uninformative audio signals. In addition, we propose an adaptive margin-based contrastive loss to deal with the inherently unclear positive-negative relationship between video and text, which facilitates learning better video-text alignment. Our extensive experiments demonstrate that AVIGATE achieves state-of-the-art performance on all the public benchmarks.

展开摘要

Affine correspondences have received significant attention due to their benefits in tasks like image matching and pose estimation. Existing methods for extracting affine correspondences still have many limitations in terms of performance; thus, exploring a new paradigm is crucial. In this paper, we present a new pipeline designed for extracting accurate affine correspondences by integrating dense matching and geometric constraints. Specifically, a novel extraction framework is introduced, with the aid of dense matching and a novel keypoint scale and orientation estimator. For this purpose, we propose loss functions based on geometric constraints, which can effectively improve accuracy by supervising neural networks to learn feature geometry. The experimental show that the accuracy and robustness of our method outperform the existing ones in image matching tasks. To further demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, we applied it to relative pose estimation. Affine correspondences extracted by our method lead to more accurate poses than the baselines on a range of real-world datasets. The source code will be made public.

展开摘要

Learned image compression methods have attracted great research interest and exhibited superior rate-distortion performance to the best classical image compression standards of the present. The entropy model plays a key role in learned image compression, which estimates the probability distribution of the latent representation for further entropy coding. Most existing methods employed hyper-prior and auto-regressive architectures to form their entropy models. However, they only aimed to explore the internal dependencies of latent representation while neglecting the importance of extracting prior from training data.In this work, we propose a novel entropy model named Dictionary-based Cross Attention Entropy model, which introduces a learnable dictionary to summarize the typical structures occurring in the training dataset to enhance the entropy model.Extensive experimental results have demonstrated that the proposed model strikes a better balance between performance and latency, achieving state-of-the-art results on various benchmark datasets.

展开摘要

Extracting high-fidelity RGBD information from two-dimensional (2D) images is essential for various visual computing applications. Stereo imaging, as a reliable passive imaging technique for obtaining three-dimensional (3D) scene information, has benefited greatly from deep learning advancements. However, existing stereo depth estimation algorithms struggle to perceive high-frequency information and resolve high-resolution depth maps in realistic camera settings with large depth variations. These algorithms commonly neglect the hardware parameter configuration, limiting the potential for achieving optimal solutions solely through software-based design strategies. This work presents a hardware-software co-designed RGBD imaging framework that leverages both stereo and focus cues to reconstruct texture-rich color images along with detailed depth maps over a wide depth range. A pair of rank-2 parameterized diffractive optical elements (DOEs) is employed to encode perpendicular complementary information optically during stereo acquisitions. Additionally, we employ an IGEV-UNet-fused neural network tailored to the proposed rank-2 encoding for stereo matching and image reconstruction. Through prototyping a stereo camera with customized DOEs, our deep stereo imaging paradigm has demonstrated superior performance over existing monocular and stereo imaging systems in both image PSNR by 2.96 dB gain and depth accuracy in high-frequency details across distances from 0.67 to 8 meters.

展开摘要

Capturing the temporal evolution of Gaussian properties such as position, rotation, and scale is a challenging task due to the vast number of time-varying parameters and the limited photometric data available, which generally results in convergence issues, making it difficult to find an optimal solution. While feeding all inputs into an end-to-end neural network can effectively model complex temporal dynamics, this approach lacks explicit supervision and struggles to generate high-quality transformation fields. On the other hand, using time-conditioned polynomial functions to model Gaussian trajectories and orientations provides a more explicit and interpretable solution, but requires significant handcrafted effort and lacks generalizability across diverse scenes. To overcome these limitations, this paper introduces a novel approach based on a learnable infinite Taylor Formula to model the temporal evolution of Gaussians. This method offers both the flexibility of an implicit network-based approach and the interpretability of explicit polynomial functions, allowing for more robust and generalizable modeling of Gaussian dynamics across various dynamic scenes.Extensive experiments on dynamic novel view rendering tasks are conducted on public datasets, demonstrating that the proposed method achieves state-of-the-art performance in this domain.

LeanGaussian: Breaking Pixel or Point Cloud Correspondence in Modeling 3D Gaussians

展开摘要

Rencently, Gaussian splatting has demonstrated significant success in novel view synthesis. Current methods often regress Gaussians with pixel or point cloud correspondence, linking each Gaussian with a pixel or a 3D point. This leads to the redundancy of Gaussians being used to overfit the correspondence rather than the objects represented by the 3D Gaussians themselves, consequently wasting resources and lacking accurate geometries or textures. In this paper, we introduce LeanGaussian, a novel approach that treats each query in deformable Transformer as one 3D Gaussian ellipsoid, breaking the pixel or point cloud correspondence constraints. We leverage deformable decoder to iteratively refine the Gaussians layer-by-layer with the image features as keys and values.Notably, the center of each 3D Gaussian is defined as 3D reference points, which are then projected onto the image for deformable attention in 2D space. On both the ShapeNet SRN dataset (category level) and the Google Scanned Objects dataset (open-category level, trained with the Objaverse dataset), our approach, outperforms prior methods by approximately 6.1%, achieving a PSNR of 25.44 and 22.36, respectively. Additionally, our method achieves a 3D reconstruction speed of 7.2 FPS and rendering speed 500 FPS.

展开摘要

Spatial reasoning is a fundamental aspect of human cognition, enabling intuitive understanding and manipulation of objects in three-dimensional space. While foundation models demonstrate remarkable performance on some benchmarks, they still struggle with 3D reasoning tasks like arranging objects in space according to open-ended language instructions, particularly in dense and physically constrained environments. We introduce LayoutVLM, a framework and scene layout representation that exploits the semantic knowledge of Vision-Language Models (VLMs) and supports differentiable optimization to ensure physical plausibility. LayoutVLM employs VLMs to generate two mutually reinforcing representations from visually marked images, and a self-consistent decoding process to improve VLMs spatial planning. Our experiments show that LayoutVLM addresses the limitations of existing LLM and constraint-based approaches, producing physically plausible 3D layouts better aligned with the semantic intent of input language instructions. We also demonstrate that fine-tuning VLMs with the proposed scene layout representation extracted from existing scene datasets can improve their reasoning performance.

Layered Motion Fusion: Lifting Motion Segmentation to 3D in Egocentric Videos

展开摘要

Computer vision is largely based on 2D techniques, with 3D vision still relegated to a relatively narrow subset of applications. However, by building on recent advances in 3D models such as neural radiance fields, some authors have shown that 3D techniques can at last improve outputs extracted from independent 2D views, by fusing them into 3D and denoising them. This is particularly helpful in egocentric videos, where the camera motion is significant, but only under the assumption that the scene itself is static. In fact, as shown in the recent analysis conducted by EPIC Fields, 3D techniques are ineffective when it comes to studying dynamic phenomena, and, in particular, when segmenting moving objects. In this paper, we look into this issue in more detail. First, we propose to improve dynamic segmentation in 3D by fusing motion segmentation predictions from a 2D-based model into layered radiance fields (Layered Motion Fusion). However, the high complexity of long, dynamic videos makes it challenging to capture the underlying geometric structure, and, as a result, hinders the fusion of motion cues into the (incomplete) scene geometry. We address this issue through test-time refinement, which helps the model to focus on specific frames, thereby reducing the data complexity. This results in a synergy between motion fusion and the refinement, and in turn leads to segmentation predictions of the 3D model that surpass the 2D baseline by a large margin. This demonstrates that 3D techniques can enhance 2D analysis even for dynamic phenomena in a challenging and realistic setting.

展开摘要

This work presents a progressive image vectorization technique that reconstructs the raster image as layer-wise vectors from semantic-aligned macro structures to finer details. Our approach introduces a new image simplification method leveraging the feature-average effect in the Score Distillation Sampling mechanism, achieving effective visual abstraction from the detailed to coarse. Guided by the sequence of progressive simplified images, we propose a two-stage vectorization process of structural buildup and visual refinement, constructing the vectors in an organized and manageable manner. The resulting vectors are layered and well-aligned with the target image's explicit and implicit semantic structures. Our method demonstrates high performance across a wide range of images. Comparative analysis with existing vectorization methods highlights our technique's superiority in creating vectors with high visual fidelity, and more importantly, achieving higher semantic alignment and more compact layered representation.
