展开摘要

We present a simple approach to make pre-trained Vision Transformers (ViTs) interpretable for fine-grained analysis, aiming to identify and localize the traits that distinguish visually similar categories, such as bird species. Pre-trained ViTs, such as DINO, have demonstrated remarkable capabilities in extracting localized, discriminative features. However, saliency maps like Grad-CAM often fail to identify these traits, producing blurred, coarse heatmaps that highlight entire objects instead. We propose a novel approach, Prompt Class Attention Map (Prompt-CAM), to address this limitation. Prompt-CAM learns class-specific prompts for a pre-trained ViT and uses the corresponding outputs for classification. To correctly classify an image, the true-class prompt must attend to unique image patches not present in other classes' images (i.e., traits). As a result, the true class's multi-head attention maps reveal traits and their locations. Implementation-wise, Prompt-CAM is almost a "free lunch," requiring only a modification to the prediction head of Visual Prompt Tuning (VPT). This makes Prompt-CAM easy to train and apply, in stark contrast to other interpretable methods that require designing specific models and training processes. Extensive empirical studies on a dozen datasets from various domains (e.g., birds, fishes, insects, fungi, flowers, food, and cars) validate the superior interpretation capability of Prompt-CAM. The source code and demo are available at https://github.com/Imageomics/Prompt_CAM.

Prometheus: 3D-Aware Latent Diffusion Models for Feed-Forward Text-to-3D Scene Generation

Yuanbo Yang, Jiahao Shao, Xinyang Li, Yujun Shen, Andreas Geiger, Yiyi Liao

展开摘要

In this work, we introduce Prometheus, a 3D-aware latent diffusion model for text-to-3D generation at both object and scene levels in seconds. We formulate 3D scene generation as multi-view, feed-forward, pixel-aligned 3D Gaussian generation within the latent diffusion paradigm. To ensure generalizability, we build our model upon pre-trained text-to-image generation model with only minimal adjustments and further train it using a large number of images from both single-view and multi-view datasets. Furthermore, we introduce an RGB-D latent space into 3D Gaussian generation to disentangle appearance and geometry information, enabling efficient feed-forward generation of 3D Gaussians with better fidelity and geometry. Extensive experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our method in both feed-forward 3D Gaussian reconstruction and text-to-3D generation.

Project-Probe-Aggregate: Efficient Fine-Tuning for Group Robustness

展开摘要

While image-text foundation models have succeeded across diverse downstream tasks, they still face challenges in the presence of spurious correlations between the input and label. To address this issue, we propose a simple three-step approach-Project-Probe-Aggregate (PPA)-that enables parameter-efficient fine-tuning for foundation models without relying on group annotations. Building upon the failure-based debiasing scheme, our method, PPA, improves its two key components: minority samples identification and the robust training algorithm. Specifically, we first train biased classifiers by projecting image features onto the nullspace of class proxies from text encoders. Next, we infer group labels using the biased classifier and probe group targets with prior correction. Finally, we aggregate group weights of each class to produce the debiased classifier. Our theoretical analysis shows that our PPA enhances minority group identification and is Bayes optimal for minimizing the balanced group error, mitigating spurious correlations. Extensive experimental results confirm the effectiveness of our PPA: it outperforms the state-of-the-art by an average worst-group accuracy while requiring less than 0.01% tunable parameters without training group labels.

ProjAttacker: A Configurable Physical Adversarial Attack for Face Recognition via Projector

展开摘要

Previous physical adversarial attacks have shown that carefully crafted perturbations can deceive face recognition systems, revealing critical security vulnerabilities. However, these attacks often struggle to impersonate multiple targets and frequently fail to bypass liveness detection. For example, attacks using human-skin masks are challenging to fabricate, inconvenient to swap between users, and often fail liveness detection due to facial occlusions. A projector, however, can generate content-rich light without obstructing the face, making it ideal for non-intrusive attacks. Thus, we propose a novel physical adversarial attack using a projector and explore the superposition of projected and natural light to create adversarial facial images. This approach eliminates the need for physical artifacts on the face, effectively overcoming these limitations. Specifically, our proposed ProjAttacker generates adversarial 3D textures that are projected onto human faces. To ensure physical realizability, we introduce a light reflection function that models complex optical interactions between projected light and human skin, accounting for reflection and diffraction effects. Furthermore, we incorporate camera Image Signal Processing (ISP) simulation to maintain the robustness of adversarial perturbations across real-world diverse imaging conditions. Comprehensive evaluations conducted in both digital and physical scenarios validate the effectiveness of our method.

Progressive Rendering Distillation: Adapting Stable Diffusion for Instant Text-to-Mesh Generation without 3D Data

展开摘要

It is highly desirable to obtain a model that can generate high-quality 3D meshes from text prompts in just seconds. While recent attempts have adapted pre-trained text-to-image diffusion models, such as Stable Diffusion (SD), into generators of 3D representations (e.g., Triplane), they often suffer from poor quality due to the lack of sufficient high-quality 3D training data. Aiming at overcoming the data shortage, we propose a novel training scheme, termed as Progressive Rendering Distillation (PRD), eliminating the need for 3D ground-truths by distilling multi-view diffusion models and adapting SD into a native 3D generator. In each iteration of training, PRD uses the U-Net to progressively denoise the latent from random noise for a few steps, and in each step it decodes the denoised latent into 3D output. Multi-view diffusion models, including MVDream and RichDreamer, are used in joint with SD to distill text-consistent textures and geometries into the 3D outputs through score distillation. Since PRD supports training without 3D ground-truths, we can easily scale up the training data and improve generation quality for challenging text prompts with creative concepts. Meanwhile, PRD can accelerate the inference speed of the generation model in just a few steps. With PRD, we train a Triplane generator, namely TriplaneTurbo, which adds only 2.5% trainable parameters to adapt SD for Triplane generation. TriplaneTurbo outperforms previous text-to-3D generators in both efficiency and quality. Specifically, it can produce high-quality 3D meshes in 1.2 seconds and generalize well for challenging text input. The code is available at https://github.com/theEricMa/TriplaneTurbo.

Progressive Focused Transformer for Single Image Super-Resolution

Wei Long, Xingyu Zhou, Leheng Zhang, Shuhang Gu

展开摘要

Transformer-based methods have achieved remarkable results in image super-resolution tasks because they can capture non-local dependencies in low-quality input images. However, this feature-intensive modeling approach is computationally expensive because it calculates the similarities between numerous features that are irrelevant to the query features when obtaining attention weights. These unnecessary similarity calculations not only degrade the reconstruction performance but also introduce significant computational overhead. How to accurately identify the features that are important to the current query features and avoid similarity calculations between irrelevant features remains an urgent problem. To address this issue, we propose a novel and effective Progressive Focused Transformer (PFT) that links all isolated attention maps in the network through Progressive Focused Attention (PFA) to focus attention on the most important tokens. PFA not only enables the network to capture more critical similar features, but also significantly reduces the computational cost of the overall network by filtering out irrelevant features before calculating similarities. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, achieving state-of-the-art performance on various single image super-resolution benchmarks.

Progressive Correspondence Regenerator for Robust 3D Registration

展开摘要

Obtaining enough high-quality correspondences is crucial for robust registration. Existing correspondence refinement methods mostly follow the paradigm of outlier removal, which either fails to correctly identify the accurate correspondences under extreme outlier ratios, or select too few correct correspondences to support robust registration. To address this challenge, we propose a novel approach named Regor, which is a progressive correspondence regenerator that generates higher-quality matches whist sufficiently robust for numerous outliers. In each iteration, we first apply prior-guided local grouping and generalized mutual matching to generate the local region correspondences. A powerful center-aware three-point consistency is then presented to achieve local correspondence correction, instead of removal. Further, we employ global correspondence refinement to obtain accurate correspondences from a global perspective. Through progressive iterations, this process yields a large number of high-quality correspondences. Extensive experiments on both indoor and outdoor datasets demonstrate that the proposed Regor significantly outperforms existing outlier removal techniques. More critically, our approach obtain 10 times more correct correspondences than outlier removal methods. As a result, our method is able to achieve robust registration even with weak features. The code is available at https://github.com/GuiyuZhao/Regor.

展开摘要

While image captioning provides isolated descriptions for individual images, and video captioning offers one single narrative for an entire video clip, our work explores an important middle ground: progress-aware video captioning at the frame level. This novel task aims to generate temporally fine-grained captions that not only accurately describe each frame but also capture the subtle progression of actions throughout a video sequence. Despite the strong capabilities of existing leading vision language models, they often struggle to discern the nuances of frame-wise differences. To address this, we propose ProgressCaptioner, a captioning model designed to capture the fine-grained temporal dynamics within an action sequence. Alongside, we develop the FrameCap dataset to support training and the FrameCapEval benchmark to assess caption quality. The results demonstrate that ProgressCaptioner significantly surpasses leading captioning models, producing precise captions that accurately capture action progression and set a new standard for temporal precision in video captioning. Finally, we showcase practical applications of our approach, specifically in aiding keyframe selection and advancing video understanding, highlighting its broad utility.

展开摘要

Differentiable rendering has gained significant attention in the field of robotics, with differentiable robot rendering emerging as an effective paradigm for learning robotic actions from image-space supervision. However, the lack of physical world perception in this approach may lead to potential collisions during action optimization. In this work, we introduce a novel improvement on previous efforts by incorporating physical awareness of collisions through the learning of a neural robotic collision classifier. This enables the optimization of actions that avoid collisions with static, non-interactable environments as well as the robot itself. To facilitate effective gradient optimization with the classifier, we identify the underlying issue and propose leveraging Eikonal regularization to ensure consistent gradients for optimization. Our solution can be seamlessly integrated into existing differentiable robot rendering frameworks, utilizing gradients for optimization and providing a foundation for future applications of differentiable rendering in robotics with improved reliability of interactions with the physical world. Both qualitative and quantitative experiments demonstrate the necessity and effectiveness of our method compared to previous solutions.

展开摘要

Mid-level vision capabilities -- such as generic object localization and 3D geometric understanding -- are not only fundamental to human vision but are also crucial for many real-world applications of computer vision. These abilities emerge with minimal supervision during the early stages of human visual development. Despite their significance, current self-supervised learning (SSL) approaches are primarily designed and evaluated for high-level recognition tasks, leaving their mid-level vision capabilities largely unexamined. In this study, we introduce a suite of benchmark protocols to systematically assess mid-level vision capabilities and present a comprehensive, controlled evaluation of 22 prominent SSL models across 8 mid-level vision tasks. Our experiments reveal a weak correlation between mid-level and high-level task performance. We also identify several SSL methods with highly imbalanced performance across mid-level and high-level capabilities, as well as some that excel in both. Additionally, we investigate key factors contributing to mid-level vision performance, such as pretraining objectives and network architectures. Our study provides a holistic and timely view of what SSL models have learned, complementing existing research that primarily focuses on high-level vision tasks. We hope our findings guide future SSL research to benchmark models not only on high-level vision tasks but on mid-level as well.

ProbeSDF: Light Field Probes For Neural Surface Reconstruction

展开摘要

SDF-based differential rendering frameworks have achieved state-of-the-art multiview 3D shape reconstruction. In this work, we re-examine this family of approaches by minimally reformulating its core appearance model in a way that simultaneously yields faster computation and increased performance. To this goal, we exhibit a physically-inspired minimal radiance parametrization decoupling angular and spatial contributions, by encoding them with a small number of features stored in two respective volumetric grids of different resolutions. Requiring as little as four parameters per voxel, and a tiny MLP call inside a single fully fused kernel, our approach allows to enhance performance with both surface and image (PSNR) metrics, while providing a significant training speedup and real-time rendering. We show this performance to be consistently achieved on real data over two widely different and popular application fields, generic object and human subject shape reconstruction, using four representative and challenging datasets.

展开摘要

Diffusion models indirectly estimate the probability density over a data space, which can be used to study its structure. In this work, we show that geodesics can be computed in diffusion latent space, where the norm induced by the spatially-varying inner product is inversely proportional to the probability density. In this formulation, a path that traverses a high density (that is, probable) region of image latent space is shorter than the equivalent path through a low density region. We present algorithms for solving the associated initial and boundary value problems and show how to compute the probability density along the path and the geodesic distance between two points. Using these techniques, we analyze how closely video clips approximate geodesics in a pre-trained image diffusion space. Finally, we demonstrate how these techniques can be applied to training-free image sequence interpolation and extrapolation, given a pre-trained image diffusion model.

Probabilistic Prompt Distribution Learning for Animal Pose Estimation

展开摘要

Multi-species animal pose estimation has emerged as a challenging yet critical task, hindered by substantial visual diversity and uncertainty. This paper challenges the problem by efficient prompt learning for Vision-Language Pretrained (VLP) models, e.g. CLIP, aiming to resolve the cross-species generalization problem. At the core of the solution lies in the prompt designing, probabilistic prompt modeling and cross-modal adaptation, thereby enabling prompts to compensate for cross-modal information and effectively overcome large data variances under unbalanced data distribution. To this end, we propose a novel probabilistic prompting approach to fully explore textual descriptions, which could alleviate the diversity issues caused by long-tail property and increase the adaptability of prompts on unseen category instance. Specifically, we first introduce a set of learnable prompts and propose a diversity loss to maintain distinctiveness among prompts, thus representing diverse image attributes. Diverse textual probabilistic representations are sampled and used as the guidance for the pose estimation. Subsequently, we explore three different cross-modal fusion strategies at spatial level to alleviate the adverse impacts of visual uncertainty. Extensive experiments on multi-species animal pose benchmarks show that our method achieves the state-of-the-art performance under both supervised and zero-shot settings.

ProbPose: A Probabilistic Approach to 2D Human Pose Estimation

展开摘要

Current state-of-the-art Human Pose Estimation methods ignore out-of-image keypoints in both training and evaluation and use uncalibrated heatmaps as keypoint location representations. We propose ProbPose, which predicts for each keypoint: a calibrated probability of keypoint presence at each location in the activation window, the probability of being outside of it, and its predicted visibility. To address the lack of evaluation protocols for out-of-image keypoints, we introduce the CropCOCO dataset and the Extended OKS (Ex-OKS) metric, which extends OKS to out-of-image points. Tested on COCO, CropCOCO, and OCHuman, ProbPose shows significant gains in out-of-image keypoint localization while also improving in-image localization through data augmentation. Additionally, the model improves robustness along the edges of the bounding box and offers better flexibility in keypoint evaluation. The code and weights are available on the MiraPurkrabek.github.io/ProbPose.

展开摘要

Diffusion models have achieved significant progress in both image and video generation while still suffering from huge computation costs. As an effective solution, rectified flow aims to rectify the diffusion process of diffusion models into a straight line for few-step and even one-step generation. However, in this paper, we suggest that the original training pipeline of reflow is not optimal and introduce two techniques to improve it. Firstly, we introduce progressive reflow, which progressively reflows the diffusion models in local timesteps until the whole diffusion progresses, reducing the difficulty of flow matching. Second, we introduce aligned v-prediction, which highlights the importance of direction matching in flow matching over magnitude matching. Experimental results on SDv1.5 and SDXL demonstrate the effectiveness of our method, for example, conducting on SDv1.5 achieves an FID of 10.70 on MSCOCO2014 validation set with only 4 sampling steps, close to our teacher model (32 DDIM steps, FID = 10.05). Our codes will be released at Github.

展开摘要

The growing popularity of Contrastive Language-Image Pretraining (CLIP) has led to its widespread application in various visual downstream tasks. To enhance CLIP's effectiveness and versatility, efficient few-shot adaptation techniques have been widely adopted. Among these approaches, training-free methods, particularly caching methods exemplified by Tip-Adapter, have gained attention for their lightweight adaptation without the need for additional fine-tuning. In this paper, we revisit Tip-Adapter from a kernel perspective, showing that caching methods function as local adapters and are connected to a well-established kernel literature. Drawing on this insight, we offer a theoretical understanding of how these methods operate and suggest multiple avenues for enhancing the Tip-Adapter baseline. Notably, our analysis shows the importance of incorporating global information in local adapters. Therefore, we subsequently propose a global method that learns a proximal regularizer in a reproducing kernel Hilbert space (RKHS) using CLIP as a base learner. Our method, which we call ProKeR (Proximal Kernel ridge Regression), has a closed form solution and achieves state-of-the-art performances across 11 datasets in the standard few-shot adaptation benchmark. ProHOC: Probabilistic Hierarchical Out-of-Distribution Classification via Multi-Depth Networks

展开摘要

Out-of-distribution (OOD) detection in deep learning has traditionally been framed as a binary task, where samples are either classified as belonging to the known classes or marked as OOD, with little attention given to the semantic relationships between OOD samples and the in-distribution (ID) classes. We propose a framework for detecting and classifying OOD samples in a given class hierarchy. Specifically, we aim to predict OOD data to their correct internal nodes of the class hierarchy, whereas the known ID classes should be predicted as their corresponding leaf nodes. Our approach leverages the class hierarchy to create a probabilistic model and we implement this model by using networks trained for ID classification at multiple hierarchy depths. We conduct experiments on three datasets with predefined class hierarchies and show the effectiveness of our method. Our code is available at https://github.com/walline/prohoc.

ProAPO: Progressively Automatic Prompt Optimization for Visual Classification

展开摘要

Vision-language models (VLMs) have made significant progress in image classification by training with large-scale paired image-text data. Their performances largely depend on the prompt quality. While recent methods show that visual descriptions generated by large language models (LLMs) enhance the generalization of VLMs, class-specific prompts may be inaccurate or lack discrimination due to the hallucination in LLMs. In this paper, we aim to find visually discriminative prompts for fine-grained categories with minimal supervision and no human-in-the-loop. An evolution-based algorithm is proposed to progressively optimize language prompts from task-specific templates to class-specific descriptions. Unlike optimizing templates, the search space shows an explosion in class-specific candidate prompts. This increases prompt generation costs, iterative times, and the overfitting problem. To this end, we first introduce several simple yet effective edit-based and evolution-based operations to generate diverse candidate prompts by one-time query of LLMs. Then, two sampling strategies are proposed to find a better initial search point and reduce traversed categories, saving iteration costs. Moreover, we apply a novel fitness score with entropy constraints to mitigate overfitting. In a challenging one-shot image classification setting, our method outperforms existing textual prompt-based methods and improves LLM-generated description methods across 13 datasets. Meanwhile, we demonstrate that our optimal prompts improve adapter-based methods and transfer effectively across different backbones.

展开摘要

In this paper, we introduce a novel, truly prior-free 3D object tracking method that operates without given any model or training priors. Unlike existing methods that typically require pre-defined 3D models or specific training datasets as priors, which limit their applicability, our method is free from these constraints. Our method consists of a geometry generation module and a pose optimization module. Its core idea is to enable these two modules to automatically and iteratively enhance each other, thereby gradually building all the necessary information for the tracking task. We thus call the method as Bidirectional Iterative Tracking(BIT). The geometry generation module starts without priors and gradually generates high-precision mesh models for tracking, while the pose optimization module generates additional data during object tracking to further refine the generated models. Moreover, the generated 3D models can be stored and easily reused, allowing for seamless integration into various other tracking systems, not just our methods. Experimental results demonstrate that BIT outperforms many existing methods, even those that extensively utilize prior knowledge, while BIT does not rely on such information. Additionally, the generated 3D models deliver results comparable to actual 3D models, highlighting their superior and innovative qualities. The code is available at https://github.com/songxiuqiang/BIT.git.

Prior Does Matter: Visual Navigation via Denoising Diffusion Bridge Models

展开摘要

Recent advancements in diffusion-based imitation learning, which shows impressive performance in modeling multimodal distributions and training stability, have led to substantial progress in various robot learning tasks. In visual navigation, previous diffusion-based policies typically generate action sequences by initiating from denoising Gaussian noise. However, the target action distribution often diverges significantly from Gaussian noise, leading to redundant denoising steps and increased learning complexity. Additionally, the sparsity of effective action distributions makes it challenging for the policy to generate accurate actions without guidance. To address these issues, we propose a novel, unified visual navigation framework leveraging the denoising diffusion bridge models named NaviBridger. This approach enables action generation by initiating from any informative prior actions, enhancing guidance and efficiency in the denoising process. We explore how diffusion bridges can enhance imitation learning in visual navigation tasks and further examine three source policies for generating prior actions. Extensive experiments in both simulated and real-world indoor and outdoor scenarios demonstrate that NaviBridger accelerates policy inference and outperforms the baselines in generating target action sequences. Code is available at https://github.com/hren20/NaiviBridger.
