HiFi-123: Towards High-fidelity One Image to 3D Content Generation

Wangbo Yu, Li Yuan, Yan-Pei Cao, Xiangjun Gao, Xiaoyu Li, Wenbo Hu, Long Quan, Ying Shan, Yonghong Tian

Expand abstract

"Recent advances in diffusion models have enabled 3D generation from a single image. However, current methods often produce suboptimal results for novel views, with blurred textures and deviations from the reference image, limiting their practical applications. In this paper, we introduce HiFi-123, a method designed for high-fidelity and multi-view consistent 3D generation. Our contributions are twofold: First, we propose a Reference-Guided Novel View Enhancement (RGNV) technique that significantly improves the fidelity of diffusion-based zero-shot novel view synthesis methods. Second, capitalizing on the RGNV, we present a novel Reference-Guided State Distillation (RGSD) loss. When incorporated into the optimization-based image-to-3D pipeline, our method significantly improves 3D generation quality, achieving state-of-the-art performance. Comprehensive evaluations demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach over existing methods, both qualitatively and quantitatively. Video results are available on the project page."

HiEI: A Universal Framework for Generating High-quality Emerging Images from Natural Images

Jingmeng Li, Lukang Fu, Surun Yang, Hui Wei

Expand abstract

"Emerging images (EIs) are a type of stylized image that consists of discrete speckles with irregular shapes and sizes, colored only in black and white. EIs have significant applications that can contribute to the study of perceptual organization in cognitive psychology and serve as a CAPTCHA mechanism. However, generating high-quality EIs from natural images faces the following challenges: 1) color quantization–how to minimize perceptual loss when reducing the color space of a natural image to 1-bit; 2) perceived difficulty adjustment–how to adjust the perceived difficulty for object detection and recognition. This paper proposes a universal framework HiEI to generate high-quality EIs from natural images, which contains three modules: the human-centered color quantification module (TTNet), the perceived difficulty control (PDC) module, and the template vectorization (TV) module. TTNet and PDC modules are specifically designed to address the aforementioned challenges. Experimental results show that compared to the existing EI generation methods, HiEI can generate EIs with superior content and style quality while offering more flexibility in controlling perceived difficulty. In particular, we experimently demonstrate that EIs generated by HiEI can effectively defend against attacks from deep network-based visual models, confirming their viability as a CAPTCHA mechanism."

HiDiffusion: Unlocking Higher-Resolution Creativity and Efficiency in Pretrained Diffusion Models

Shen Zhang, Zhaowei Chen, Zhenyu Zhao, Yuhao Chen, Yao Tang, Jiajun Liang

Expand abstract

"Diffusion models have become a mainstream approach for high-resolution image synthesis. However, directly generating higher-resolution images from pretrained diffusion models will encounter unreasonable object duplication and exponentially increase the generation time. In this paper, we discover that object duplication arises from feature duplication in the deep blocks of the U-Net. Concurrently, We pinpoint the extended generation times to self-attention redundancy in U-Net’s top blocks. To address these issues, we propose a tuning-free higher-resolution framework named HiDiffusion. Specifically, HiDiffusion contains Resolution-Aware U-Net (RAU-Net) that dynamically adjusts the feature map size to resolve object duplication and engages Modified Shifted Window Multi-head Self-Attention (MSW-MSA) that utilizes optimized window attention to reduce computations. we can integrate HiDiffusion into various pretrained diffusion models to scale image generation resolutions even to 4096×4096 at 1.5-6× the inference speed of previous methods. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our approach can address object duplication and heavy computation issues, achieving state-of-the-art performance on higher-resolution image synthesis tasks."

Heterogeneous Graph Learning for Scene Graph Prediction in 3D Point Clouds

Yanni Ma, Hao Liu, Yun Pei, Yulan Guo

Expand abstract

"3D Scene Graph Prediction (SGP) aims to recognize the objects and predict their semantic and spatial relationships in a 3D scene. Existing methods either exploit context information or emphasize knowledge prior to model the scene graph in a fully-connected homogeneous graph framework. However, these methods may lead to indiscriminate message passing among graph nodes (i.e., objects), resulting in sub-optimal performance. In this paper, we propose a 3D Heterogeneous Scene Graph Prediction (3D-HetSGP) framework, which performs graph reasoning on the 3D scene graph in a heterogeneous fashion. Specifically, our method consists of two stages: a heterogeneous graph structure learning (HGSL) stage and a heterogeneous graph reasoning (HGR) stage. In the HGSL stage, we learn the graph structure by predicting the types of different directed edges. In the HGR stage, message passing among nodes is performed on the learned graph structure for scene graph prediction. Extensive experiments show that our method achieves comparable or superior performance to existing methods on 3DSSG dataset."

Hetecooper: Feature Collaboration Graph for Heterogeneous Collaborative Perception

Congzhang Shao, Guiyang Luo, Quan Yuan, Yifu Chen, Yilin Liu, Gong Kexin, Jinglin Li

Expand abstract

"Collaborative perception effectively expands the perception range of agents by sharing perceptual information, and it addresses the occlusion problem in single-vehicle perception. Most of the existing works are based on the assumption of perception model homogeneity. However, in actual collaboration scenarios, agents use different perception model architectures, which leads to differences in the size, number of channels and semantic space of intermediate features shared among collaborators, bringing challenges to collaboration. We introduce Hetecooper, a collaborative perception framework for scenarios with heterogeneous perception models. To model the correlation between heterogeneous features, we construct the feature collaboration graph, which completely preserves the semantic information and spatial information of features. Furthermore, a message passing mechanism based on graph transformer is designed to transfer feature messages in the feature collaboration graph. Firstly, the number of node channels and the semantic space are unified by the semantic mapper. Then, the feature information is aggregated by the edge weight guided attention, and finally the fusion of heterogeneous features is realized. Test results demonstrate that our method achieves superior performance in both model homogeneity and heterogeneity scenarios, and also has good scalability to the change of feature size."

Expand abstract

"Creating digital avatars from textual prompts has long been a desirable yet challenging task. Despite the promising results achieved with 2D diffusion priors, current methods struggle to create high-quality and consistent animated avatars efficiently. Previous animatable head models like FLAME have difficulty in accurately representing detailed texture and geometry. Additionally, high-quality 3D static representations face challenges in semantically driving with dynamic priors. In this paper, we introduce HeadStudio, a novel framework that utilizes 3D Gaussian splatting to generate realistic and animatable avatars from text prompts. Firstly, we associate 3D Gaussians with animatable head prior model, facilitating semantic animation on high-quality 3D representations. To ensure consistent animation, we further enhance the optimization from initialization, distillation, and regularization to jointly learn the shape, texture, and animation. Extensive experiments demonstrate the efficacy of HeadStudio in generating animatable avatars from textual prompts, exhibiting appealing appearances. The avatars are capable of rendering high-quality real-time (≥ 40 fps) novel views at a resolution of 1024. Moreover, These avatars can be smoothly driven by real-world speech and video. We hope that HeadStudio can enhance digital avatar creation and gain popularity in the community. Code is at: https: //github.com/ZhenglinZhou/HeadStudio."

"3D head animation has seen major quality and runtime improvements over the last few years, particularly empowered by the advances in differentiable rendering and neural radiance fields. Real-time rendering is a highly desirable goal for real-world applications. We propose HeadGaS, a model that uses 3D Gaussian Splats (3DGS) for 3D head reconstruction and animation. In this paper we introduce a hybrid model that extends the explicit 3DGS representation with a base of learnable latent features, which can be linearly blended with low-dimensional parameters from parametric head models to obtain expression-dependent color and opacity values. We demonstrate that HeadGaS delivers state-of-the-art results in real-time inference frame rates, surpassing baselines by up to 2 dB, while accelerating rendering speed by over ×10."

Expand abstract

"Creating a 360◦ parametric model of a human head is a very challenging task. While recent advancements have demonstrated the efficacy of leveraging synthetic data for building such parametric head models, their performance remains inadequate in crucial areas such as expression-driven animation, hairstyle editing, and text-based modifications. In this paper, we build a dataset of artist-designed high-fidelity human heads and propose to create a novel parametric 360-degree renderable parametric head model from it. Our scheme decouples the facial motion/shape and facial appearance, which are represented by a classic parametric 3D mesh model and an attached neural texture, respectively. We further propose a training method for decompositing hairstyle and facial appearance, allowing free-swapping of the hairstyle. A novel inversion fitting method is presented based on single image input with high generalization and fidelity. To the best of our knowledge, our model is the first parametric 3D full-head that achieves 360◦ free-view synthesis, image-based fitting, appearance editing, and animation within a single model. Experiments show that facial motions and appearances are well disentangled in the parametric space, leading to SOTA performance in rendering and animating quality. The code and dataset are released in https://nju-3dv.github.io/projects/Head360."

Harnessing Text-to-Image Diffusion Models for Category-Agnostic Pose Estimation

Duo Peng, Zhengbo Zhang, Ping Hu, Qiuhong Ke, David Yau, Jun Liu

Expand abstract

"Category-Agnostic Pose Estimation (CAPE) aims to detect keypoints of an arbitrary unseen category in images, based on several provided examples of that category. This is a challenging task, as the limited data of unseen categories makes it difficult for models to generalize effectively. To address this challenge, previous methods typically train models on a set of predefined base categories with extensive annotations. In this work, we propose to harness rich knowledge in the off-the-shelf text-to-image diffusion model to effectively address CAPE, without training on carefully prepared base categories. To this end, we propose a Prompt Pose Matching (PPM) framework, which learns pseudo prompts corresponding to the keypoints in the provided few-shot examples via the text-to-image diffusion model. These learned pseudo prompts capture semantic information of keypoints, which can then be used to locate the same type of keypoints from images. We also design a Category-shared Prompt Training (CPT) scheme, to further boost our PPM’s performance. Extensive experiments demonstrate the efficacy of our approach."

Harmonizing knowledge Transfer in Neural Network with Unified Distillation

Yaomin Huang, Faming Fang, Zaoming Yan, Chaomin Shen, Guixu Zhang

Expand abstract

"Knowledge distillation (KD), known for its ability to transfer knowledge from a cumbersome network (teacher) to a lightweight one (student) without altering the architecture, has been garnering increasing attention. Two primary categories emerge within KD methods: feature-based, focusing on intermediate layers’ features, and logits-based, targeting the final layer’s logits. This paper introduces a novel perspective by leveraging diverse knowledge sources within a unified KD framework. Specifically, we aggregate features from intermediate layers into a comprehensive representation, effectively gathering semantic information from different stages and scales. Subsequently, we predict the distribution parameters from this representation. These steps transform knowledge from the intermediate layers into corresponding distributive forms, thereby allowing for knowledge distillation through a unified distribution constraint at different stages of the network, ensuring the comprehensiveness and coherence of knowledge transfer. Numerous experiments were conducted to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method."

Handling The Non-Smooth Challenge in Tensor SVD: A Multi-Objective Tensor Recovery Framework

Jingjing Zheng, Wanglong Lu, Wenzhe Wang, Yankai Cao, Xiaoqin Zhang, Xianta Jiang

Expand abstract

"Recently, numerous tensor singular value decomposition (t-SVD)-based tensor recovery methods have shown promise in processing visual data, such as color images and videos. However, these methods often suffer from severe performance degradation when confronted with tensor data exhibiting non-smooth changes. It has been commonly observed in real-world scenarios but ignored by the traditional t-SVD-based methods. In this work, we introduce a novel tensor recovery model with a learnable tensor nuclear norm to address such challenge. We develop a new optimization algorithm named the Alternating Proximal Multiplier Method (APMM) to iteratively solve the proposed tensor completion model. Theoretical analysis demonstrates the convergence of the proposed APMM to the Karush–Kuhn–Tucker (KKT) point of the optimization problem. In addition, we propose a multi-objective tensor recovery framework based on APMM to efficiently explore the correlations of tensor data across its various dimensions, providing a new perspective on extending the t-SVD-based method to higher-order tensor cases. Numerical experiments demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method in tensor completion."

HandDGP: Camera-Space Hand Mesh Prediction with Differentiable Global Positioning

Eugene Valassakis, Guillermo Garcia-Hernando

Expand abstract

"Predicting camera-space hand meshes from single RGB images is crucial for enabling realistic hand interactions in 3D virtual and augmented worlds. Previous work typically divided the task into two stages: given a cropped image of the hand, predict meshes in relative coordinates, followed by lifting these predictions into camera space in a separate and independent stage, often resulting in the loss of valuable contextual and scale information. To prevent the loss of these cues, we propose unifying these two stages into an end-to-end solution that addresses the 2D-3D correspondence problem. This solution enables back-propagation from camera space outputs to the rest of the network through a new differentiable global positioning module. We also introduce an image rectification step that harmonizes both the training dataset and the input image as if they were acquired with the same camera, helping to alleviate the inherent scale-depth ambiguity of the problem. We validate the effectiveness of our framework in evaluations against several baselines and state-of-the-art approaches across three public benchmarks."

HandDAGT: A Denoising Adaptive Graph Transformer for 3D Hand Pose Estimation

Wencan Cheng, Eunji Kim, Jong Hwan Ko

Expand abstract

"The extraction of keypoint positions from input hand frames, known as 3D hand pose estimation, is crucial for various human-computer interaction applications. However, current approaches often struggle with the dynamic nature of self-occlusion of hands and intra-occlusion with interacting objects. To address this challenge, this paper proposes the Denoising Adaptive Graph Transformer, HandDAGT, for hand pose estimation. The proposed HandDAGT leverages a transformer structure to thoroughly explore effective geometric features from input patches. Additionally, it incorporates a novel attention mechanism to adaptively weigh the contribution of kinematic correspondence and local geometric features for the estimation of specific keypoints. This attribute enables the model to adaptively employ kinematic and local information based on the occlusion situation, enhancing its robustness and accuracy. Furthermore, we introduce a novel denoising training strategy aimed at improving the model’s robust performance in the face of occlusion challenges. Experimental results show that the proposed model significantly outperforms the existing methods on four challenging hand pose benchmark datasets. Codes and pre-trained models are publicly available at https://github.com/cwc1260/HandDAGT."

HaloQuest: A Visual Hallucination Dataset for Advancing Multimodal Reasoning

Zhecan Wang, Garrett Bingham, Adams Wei Yu, Quoc V Le, Thang Luong, Golnaz Ghiasi

Expand abstract

"Hallucination has been a major problem for large language models and remains a critical challenge when it comes to multimodality in which vision-language models (VLMs) have to deal with not just textual but also visual inputs. Despite rapid progress in VLMs, resources for evaluating and addressing multimodal hallucination are limited and mostly focused on evaluation. This work introduces HaloQuest, a novel visual question answering dataset that captures various aspects of multimodal hallucination such as false premises, insufficient contexts, and visual challenges. A novel idea from HaloQuest is to leverage synthetic images, apart from real ones, to enable dataset creation at scale. With over 7.7K examples spanning across a wide variety of categories, HaloQuest was designed to be both a challenging benchmark for VLMs and a fine-tuning dataset for advancing multimodal reasoning. Our experiments reveal that current models struggle with HaloQuest, with all open-source VLMs achieving below 36% accuracy. On the other hand, fine-tuning on HaloQuest significantly reduces hallucination rates while preserving performance on standard reasoning tasks. Our results discover that benchmarking with generated images is highly correlated (r = 0.97) with real images. Last but not least, we propose a novel Auto-Eval mechanism that is highly correlated with human raters (r = 0.99) for evaluating VLMs. In sum, this work makes concrete strides towards understanding, evaluating, and mitigating hallucination in VLMs, serving as an important step towards more reliable multimodal AI systems in the future."

Expand abstract

"In an era where the volume of data drives the effectiveness of self-supervised learning, the specificity and clarity of data semantics play a crucial role in model training. Addressing this, we introduce HYPerbolic Entailment filtering (HYPE), a novel methodology designed to meticulously extract modality-wise meaningful and well-aligned data from extensive, noisy image-text pair datasets. Our approach leverages hyperbolic embeddings and the concept of entailment cones to evaluate and filter out samples with meaningless or underspecified semantics, focusing on enhancing the specificity of each data sample. HYPE not only demonstrates a significant improvement in filtering efficiency but also sets a new state-of-the-art in the DataComp benchmark when combined with existing filtering techniques. This breakthrough showcases the potential of HYPE to refine the data selection process, thereby contributing to the development of more accurate and efficient self-supervised learning models. Additionally, the image specificity ϵi can be independently applied to induce an image-only dataset from an image-text or image-only data pool for training image-only self-supervised models and showed superior performance when compared to the dataset induced by CLIP score."

Expand abstract

"Recent advances in visual reasoning (VR), particularly with the aid of Large Vision-Language Models (VLMs), show promise but require access to large-scale datasets and face challenges such as high computational costs and limited generalization capabilities. Compositional visual reasoning approaches have emerged as effective strategies; however, they heavily rely on the commonsense knowledge encoded in Large Language Models (LLMs) to perform planning, reasoning, or both, without considering the effect of their decisions on the visual reasoning process, which can lead to errors or failed procedures. To address these challenges, we introduce , a multi-stage dynamic compositional visual reasoning framework designed for reliable and incrementally progressive general reasoning. integrates three essential modules: a planner, a Reinforcement Learning (RL) agent serving as a cognitive controller, and a reasoner. The planner and reasoner modules utilize an LLM to generate instruction samples and executable code from the selected instruction, respectively, while the RL agent dynamically interacts with these modules, making high-level decisions on selection of the best instruction sample given information from the historical state stored through a feedback loop. This adaptable design enables to adjust its actions based on previous feedback received during the reasoning process, leading to more reliable reasoning outputs and ultimately enhancing its overall effectiveness. Our framework demonstrates state-of-the-art performance in various VR tasks on four different widely-used datasets."

HVCLIP: High-dimensional Vector in CLIP for Unsupervised Domain Adaptation

Noranart Vesdapunt, Kah Kuen Fu, Yue Wu, Xu Zhang, Pradeep Natarajan

Expand abstract

"Recent advancement in the large-scale image-text pre-training model (such as CLIP) has significantly improved unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) by leveraging the pre-trained knowledge to bridge the source and target domain gap. However, Catastrophic forgetting still remains to be the main challenge, since traditional fine-tuning method to adjust CLIP model weights on a target domain can quickly override CLIP’s pre-trained knowledge. To address the above issue, we propose to convert CLIP’s features into high-dimensional vector (hypervector) space to utilize the robustness property of hypervector. We first study the feature dimension size in the hypervector space to empirically find the dimension threshold that allows enough feature patterns to be redundant to avoid excessive training (thus mitigating catastrophic forgetting). To further utilize the robustness of hypervector, we propose Discrepancy Reduction to reduce the domain shift between source and target domains, and Feature Augmentation to synthesize labeled target domain features from source domain features. We achieved the best results on four public UDA datasets, and showed the generalization of our method to other applications (few-shot learning, continual learning). The proposed method also shows model-agnostic property across vision-language and vision backbones."

HUMOS: Human Motion Model Conditioned on Body Shape

Expand abstract

"Generating realistic human motion is crucial for many computer vision and graphics applications. The rich diversity of human body shapes and sizes significantly influences how people move. However, existing motion models typically overlook these differences, using a normalized, average body instead. This results in a homogenization of motion across human bodies, with motions not aligning with their physical attributes, thus limiting diversity. To address this, we propose a novel approach to learn a generative motion model conditioned on body shape. We demonstrate that it is possible to learn such a model from unpaired training data using cycle consistency, intuitive physics, and stability constraints that model the correlation between identity and movement. The resulting model produces diverse, physically plausible, and dynamically stable human motions that are quantitatively and qualitatively more realistic than existing state of the art. "An overarching goal for computer-aided perception systems is the holistic understanding of the human-centric 3D world, including faithful reconstructions of humans, scenes, and their global spatial relationships. While recent progress in monocular 3D reconstruction has been made for footage of either humans or scenes alone, the joint reconstruction of both humans and scenes, along with their global spatial information, remains an unsolved challenge. To address this, we introduce a novel and unified framework that simultaneously achieves temporally and spatially coherent 3D reconstruction of static scenes with dynamic humans from monocular RGB videos. Specifically, we parameterize temporally consistent canonical human models and static scene representations using two neural fields in a shared 3D space. Additionally, we develop a global optimization framework that considers physical constraints imposed by potential human-scene interpenetration and occlusion. Compared to separate reconstructions, our framework enables detailed and holistic geometry reconstructions of both humans and scenes. Furthermore, we introduce a synthetic dataset for quantitative evaluations. Extensive experiments and ablation studies on both real-world and synthetic videos demonstrate the efficacy of our framework in monocular human-scene reconstruction. HPFF: Hierarchical Locally Supervised Learning with Patch Feature Fusion

Junhao Su, Chenghao He, Feiyu Zhu, Xiaojie Xu, Dongzhi Guan, Chenyang Si

Expand abstract

"Traditional deep learning relies on end-to-end backpropagation for training, but it suffers from drawbacks such as high memory consumption and not aligning with biological neural networks. Recent advancements have introduced locally supervised learning, which divides networks into modules with isolated gradients and trains them locally. However, this approach can lead to performance lag due to limited interaction between these modules, and the design of auxiliary networks occupies a certain amount of GPU memory. To overcome these limitations, we propose a novel model called HPFF that performs hierarchical locally supervised learning and patch-level feature computation on the auxiliary networks. Hierarchical Locally Supervised Learning (HiLo) enables the network to learn features at different granularity levels along their respective local paths. Specifically, the network is divided into two-level local modules: independent local modules and cascade local modules. The cascade local modules combine two adjacent independent local modules, incorporating both updates within the modules themselves and information exchange between adjacent modules. Patch Feature Fusion (PFF) reduces GPU memory usage by splitting the input features of the auxiliary networks into patches for computation. By averaging these patch-level features, it enhances the network’s ability to focus more on those patterns that are prevalent across multiple patches. Furthermore, our method exhibits strong generalization capabilities and can be seamlessly integrated with existing techniques. We conduct experiments on CIFAR-10, STL-10, SVHN, and ImageNet datasets, and the results demonstrate that our proposed HPFF significantly outperforms previous approaches, consistently achieving state-of-the-art performance across different datasets.
