Co-speech Gesture Video Generation with 3D Human Meshes

Aniruddha Mahapatra, Richa Mishra*, Ziyi Chen, Boyang Ding, Renda Li, Shoulei Wang, Jun-Yan Zhu, Peng Chang, Mei Han, Jing Xiao

展开摘要

"Co-speech gesture video generation is an enabling technique for many digital human applications. Substantial progress has been made in creating high-quality talking head videos. However, existing hand gesture video generation methods are primarily limited by the widely adopted 2D skeleton-based gesture representation and still struggle to generate realistic hands. We introduce an audio-driven co-speech video generation pipeline to synthesize human speech videos leveraging 3D human mesh-based representations. By adopting a 3D human mesh-based gesture representation, we present a mesh-grounded video generator that includes a mesh texture map optimization step followed by a conditional GAN network and outputs photorealistic gesture videos with realistic hands. Our experiments on the TalkSHOW dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of our method over 2D skeleton-based baselines."

Co-Student: Collaborating Strong and Weak Students for Sparsely Annotated Object Detection

Lianjun Wu, Jiangxiao Han, Zengqiang Zheng, Xinggang Wang

展开摘要

"Sparsely Annotated Object Detection (SAOD) tackles the issue of incomplete labeling in object detection. Compared with Fully Annotated Object Detection (FAOD), SAOD is more complicated and challenging. Unlabeled objects tend to provide wrong supervision to the detectors during training, resulting in inferior performance for prevalent object detectors. Shrinking the performance gap between SAOD and FAOD does contribute to reducing the labeling cost. Existing methods tend to exploit pseudo-labeling for unlabeled objects while suffering from two issues: (1) they fail to make full use of unlabeled objects mined from the student detector and (2) the pseudo-labels contain much noise. To tackle those two issues, we introduce , a novel framework aiming to bridge the gap between SAOD and FAOD via fully exploiting the pseudo-labels from both teacher and student detectors. The proposed comprises a sophisticated teacher to denoise the pseudo-labels for unlabeled objects and two collaborative students that leverage strong and weak augmentations to excavate pseudo-labels. The students exchange the denoised pseudo-labels and learn from each other with consistency regularization brought by strong-weak augmentations. Without bells and whistles, the proposed framework with the one-stage detector, , FCOS, can achieve state-of-the-art performance on the COCO dataset with sparse annotations under diverse settings. Compared to previous works, it obtains 1.0%∼3.0% AP improvements under five settings of sparse annotations and achieves 95.1% performance compared to FCOS trained on fully annotated COCO dataset. Code has been made available at https://github.com/hustvl/ CoStudent."

展开摘要

"3D decomposition/segmentation remains a challenge as large-scale 3D annotated data is not readily available. Existing approaches typically leverage 2D machine-generated segments, integrating them to achieve 3D consistency. In this paper, we propose , a novel approach achieving both segmentation and reconstruction in 3D via the neural implicit surface representation, specifically the Signed Distance Function (SDF), where the segmentation rendering is directly integrated with the volume rendering of neural implicit surfaces. Although based on ObjectSDF++, no longer requires ground-truth segments for supervision while maintaining the capability of reconstructing individual object surfaces, relying purely on the noisy and inconsistent labels from pre-trained models. As the core of , we introduce a highly efficient clustering mechanism for lifting 2D labels to 3D. Experimental results on the challenging scenes from ScanNet and Replica datasets show that can achieve competitive performance compared to the state-of-the-art with significantly reduced training time."

CloudFixer: Test-Time Adaptation for 3D Point Clouds via Diffusion-Guided Geometric Transformation

Hajin Shim, Changhun Kim, Eunho Yang

展开摘要

"3D point clouds captured from real-world sensors frequently encompass noisy points due to various obstacles, such as occlusion, limited resolution, and variations in scale. These challenges hinder the deployment of pre-trained point cloud recognition models trained on clean point clouds, leading to significant performance degradation. While test-time adaptation (TTA) strategies have shown promising results on this issue in the 2D domain, their application to 3D point clouds remains under-explored. Among TTA methods, an input adaptation approach, which directly converts test instances to the source domain using a pre-trained diffusion model, has been proposed in the 2D domain. Despite its robust TTA performance in practical situations, naively adopting this into the 3D domain may be suboptimal due to the neglect of inherent properties of point clouds, and its prohibitive computational cost. Motivated by these limitations, we propose CloudFixer, a test-time input adaptation method tailored for 3D point clouds, employing a pre-trained diffusion model. Specifically, CloudFixer optimizes geometric transformation parameters with carefully designed objectives that leverage the geometric properties of point clouds. We also substantially improve computational efficiency by avoiding backpropagation through the diffusion model and a prohibitive generation process. Furthermore, we propose an online model adaptation strategy by aligning the original model prediction with that of the adapted input. Extensive experiments showcase the superiority of CloudFixer over various TTA baselines, excelling in handling common corruptions and natural distribution shifts across diverse real-world scenarios. Our code is available at https://github.com/shimazing/CloudFixer."

Closed-Loop Unsupervised Representation Disentanglement with $\\beta$-VAE Distillation and Diffusion Probabilistic Feedback

展开摘要

"Representation disentanglement may help AI fundamentally understand the real world and thus benefit both discrimination and generation tasks. It currently has at least three unresolved core issues: (i) heavy reliance on label annotation and synthetic data — causing poor generalization on natural scenarios; (ii) heuristic/hand-craft disentangling constraints make it hard to adaptively achieve an optimal training trade-off; (iii) lacking reasonable evaluation metric, especially for the real label-free data. To address these challenges, we propose a Closed-Loop unsupervised representation Disentanglement approach dubbed CL-Dis. Specifically, we use diffusion-based autoencoder (Diff-AE) as a backbone while resorting to β-VAE as a co-pilot to extract semantically disentangled representations. The strong generation ability of diffusion model and the good disentanglement ability of VAE model are complementary. To strengthen disentangling, VAE-latent distillation and diffusion-wise feedback are interconnected in a closed-loop system for a further mutual promotion. Then, a self-supervised Navigation strategy is introduced to identify interpretable semantic directions in the disentangled latent space. Finally, a new metric based on content tracking is designed to evaluate the disentanglement effect. Experiments demonstrate the superiority of CL-Dis on applications like real image manipulation and visual analysis."

展开摘要

"This paper presents CliffPhys, a family of models that leverage hypercomplex neural architectures for camera-based respiratory measurement. The proposed approach extracts respiratory motion from standard RGB cameras, relying on optical flow and monocular depth estimation to obtain a 2D vector field and a scalar field, respectively. We show how the adoption of Clifford Neural Layers to model the geometric relationships within the recovered input fields allows respiratory information to be effectively estimated. Experimental results on three publicly available datasets demonstrate CliffPhys’ superior performance compared to both baselines and recent neural approaches, achieving state-of-the-art results in the prediction of respiratory rates. 展开摘要

"Interactive segmentation of 3D Gaussians opens a great opportunity for real-time manipulation of 3D scenes thanks to the real-time rendering capability of 3D Gaussian Splatting. However, the current methods suffer from time-consuming post-processing to deal with noisy segmentation output. Also, they struggle to provide detailed segmentation, which is important for fine-grained manipulation of 3D scenes. In this study, we propose Click-Gaussian, which learns distinguishable feature fields of two-level granularity, facilitating segmentation without time-consuming post-processing. We delve into challenges stemming from inconsistently learned feature fields resulting from 2D segmentation obtained independently from a 3D scene. 3D segmentation accuracy deteriorates when 2D segmentation results across the views, primary cues for 3D segmentation, are in conflict. To overcome these issues, we propose Global Feature-guided Learning (GFL). GFL constructs the clusters of global feature candidates from noisy 2D segments across the views, which smooths out noises when training the features of 3D Gaussians. Our method runs in 10 ms per click, 15 to 130 times as fast as the previous methods, while also significantly improving segmentation accuracy."

Click Prompt Learning with Optimal Transport for Interactive Segmentation

展开摘要

"Click-based interactive segmentation aims to segment target objects conditioned on user-provided clicks. Existing methods typically interpret user intention by learning multiple click prompts to generate corresponding prompt-activated masks, and selecting one from these masks. However, directly matching each prompt to the same visual feature often leads to homogeneous prompt-activated masks, as it pushes the click prompts to converge to one point. To address this problem, we propose Click Prompt Learning with Optimal Transport (CPlot), which leverages optimal transport theory to capture diverse user intentions with multiple click prompts. Specifically, we first introduce a prompt-pixel alignment module (PPAM), which aligns each click prompts with the visual features in the same feature space by plain transformer blocks. In such way, PPAM enables all click prompts to encode more general knowledge about regions of interest, indicating a consistent user intention. To capture diverse user intentions, we further propose the click prompt optimal transport module (CPOT) to match click prompts and visual features. CPOT is designed to learn an optimal mapping between click prompts and visual features. Such unique mapping facilities click prompts to effectively focus on distinct visual regions, which reflect underlying diverse user intentions. Furthermore, CPlot learns click prompts with a two-stage optimization strategy: the inner loop optimizes the optimal transport distance to align visual features with click prompts through the Sinkhorn algorithm, while the outer loop adjusts the click prompts from the supervised data. Extensive experiments on eight interactive segmentation benchmarks demonstrate the superiority of our method for interactive segmentation. ClearCLIP: Decomposing CLIP Representations for Dense Vision-Language Inference

展开摘要

"Despite the success of large-scale pretrained Vision-Language Models (VLMs) especially CLIP in various open-vocabulary tasks, their application to semantic segmentation remains challenging, producing noisy segmentation maps with mis-segmented regions. In this paper, we carefully re-investigate the architecture of CLIP, and identify residual connections as the primary source of noise that degrades segmentation quality. With a comparative analysis of statistical properties in the residual connection and the attention output across different pretrained models, we discover that CLIP’s image-text contrastive training paradigm emphasizes global features at the expense of local discriminability, leading to noisy segmentation results. In response, we propose ClearCLIP, a novel approach that decomposes CLIP’s representations to enhance open-vocabulary semantic segmentation. We introduce three simple modifications to the final layer: removing the residual connection, implementing the self-self attention, and discarding the feed-forward network. ClearCLIP consistently generates clearer and more accurate segmentation maps and outperforms existing approaches across multiple benchmarks, affirming the significance of our discoveries."

展开摘要

"Deep neural networks (DNNs) have been widely deployed in real-world, mission-critical applications, necessitating effective approaches to protect deep learning models against malicious attacks. Motivated by the high stealthiness and potential harm of backdoor attacks, a series of backdoor defense methods for DNNs have been proposed. However, most existing approaches require access to clean training data, hindering their practical use. Additionally, state-of-the-art (SOTA) solutions cannot simultaneously enhance model robustness and compactness in a data-free manner, which is crucial in resource-constrained applications. To address these challenges, in this paper, we propose Clean & Compact (C&C), an efficient data-free backdoor defense mechanism that can bring both purification and compactness to the original infected DNNs. Built upon the intriguing rank-level sensitivity to trigger patterns, C&C co-explores and achieves high model cleanliness and efficiency without the need for training data, making this solution very attractive in many real-world, resource-limited scenarios. Extensive evaluations across different settings consistently demonstrate that our proposed approach outperforms SOTA backdoor defense methods."

Class-Incremental Learning with CLIP: Adaptive Representation Adjustment and Parameter Fusion

Linlan Huang, Xusheng Cao, Haori Lu, Xialei Liu

展开摘要

"Class-incremental learning is a challenging problem, where the goal is to train a model that can classify data from an increasing number of classes over time. With the advancement of vision-language pre-trained models such as CLIP, they demonstrate good generalization ability that allows them to excel in class-incremental learning with completely frozen parameters. However, further adaptation to downstream tasks by simply fine-tuning the model leads to severe forgetting. Most existing works with pre-trained models assume that the forgetting of old classes is uniform when the model acquires new knowledge. In this paper, we propose a method named Adaptive Representation Adjustment and Parameter Fusion (RAPF). During training for new data, we measure the influence of new classes on old ones and adjust the representations, using textual features. After training, we employ a decomposed parameter fusion to further mitigate forgetting during adapter module fine-tuning. Experiments on several conventional benchmarks show that our method achieves state-of-the-art results. Our code is available at https://github.com/linlany/RAPF."

"Class-agnostic object counting aims to count objects of arbitrary classes with limited information (, a few exemplars or the class names) provided. It requires the model to effectively acquire the characteristics of the target objects and accurately perform counting, which can be challenging. In this work, inspired by that text-to-image diffusion models hold rich knowledge and comprehensive understanding of real-world objects, we propose to leverage the pre-trained text-to-image diffusion model to facilitate class-agnostic object counting. Specifically, we propose a novel framework named CountDiff with careful designs, leveraging the pre-trained diffusion model’s comprehensive understanding of image contents to perform class-agnostic object counting. The experiments show the effectiveness of CountDiff on both few-shot setting with exemplars provided and zero-shot setting with class names provided."

展开摘要

"Video geolocalization is a crucial problem in current times. Given just a video, ascertaining where it was captured from can have a plethora of advantages. The problem of worldwide geolocalization has been tackled before, but only using the image modality. Its video counterpart remains relatively unexplored. Meanwhile, video geolocalization has also garnered some attention in the recent past, but the existing methods are all restricted to specific regions. This motivates us to explore the problem of video geolocalization at a global scale. Hence, we propose a novel problem of worldwide video geolocalization with the objective of hierarchically predicting the correct city, state/province, country, and continent, given a video. However, no large scale video datasets that have extensive worldwide coverage exist, to train models for solving this problem. To this end, we introduce a new dataset, “CityGuessr68k ” comprising of 68,269 videos from 166 cities all over the world. We also propose a novel baseline approach to this problem, by designing a transformer-based architecture comprising of an elegant “Self-Cross Attention” module for incorporating scenes as well as a “TextLabel Alignment” strategy for distilling knowledge from textlabels in feature space. To further enhance our location prediction, we also utilize soft-scene labels. Finally we demonstrate the performance of our method on our new dataset as well as Mapillary(MSLS)[?]. "The advancement of real-time 3D scene reconstruction and novel view synthesis has been significantly propelled by 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS). However, effectively training large-scale 3DGS and rendering it in real-time across various scales remains challenging. This paper introduces CityGaussian (CityGS), which employs a novel divide-and-conquer training approach and Level-of-Detail (LoD) strategy for efficient large-scale 3DGS training and rendering. Specifically, the global scene prior and adaptive training data selection enables efficient training and seamless fusion. Based on fused Gaussian primitives, we generate different detail levels through compression, and realize fast rendering across various scales through the proposed block-wise detail levels selection and aggregation strategy. 展开摘要

"Diffusion Models (DMs) achieve state-of-the-art synthesis results in image generation and have been applied to various fields. However, DMs sometimes seriously violate user privacy during usage, making the protection of privacy an urgent issue. Using traditional privacy computing schemes like Secure Multi-Party Computation (MPC) directly in DMs faces significant computation and communication challenges. To address these issues, we propose CipherDM, the first novel, versatile and universal framework applying MPC technology to DMs for secure sampling, which can be widely implemented on multiple DM based tasks. We thoroughly analyze sampling latency breakdown, find time-consuming parts and design corresponding secure MPC protocols for computing nonlinear activations including SoftMax, SiLU and Mish. CipherDM is evaluated on popular architectures (DDPM, DDIM) using MNIST dataset and on SD deployed by diffusers. Compared to direct implementation on SPU, our approach improves running time by approximately 1.084× ∼ 2.328×, and reduces communication costs by approximately 1.212× ∼ 1.791×. Chronologically Accurate Retrieval for Temporal Grounding of Motion-Language Models

Kent Fujiwara, Mikihiro Tanaka, Qing Yu

展开摘要

"With the release of large-scale motion datasets with textual annotations, the task of establishing a robust latent space for language and 3D human motion has recently witnessed a surge of interest. Methods have been proposed to convert human motion and texts into features to achieve accurate correspondence between them. Despite these efforts to align language and motion representations, we claim that the temporal element is often overlooked, especially for compound actions, resulting in chronological inaccuracies. To shed light on the temporal alignment in motion-language latent spaces, we propose Chronologically Accurate Retrieval (CAR) to evaluate the chronological understanding of the models. We decompose textual descriptions into events, and prepare negative text samples by shuffling the order of events in compound action descriptions. We then design a simple task for motion-language models to retrieve the more likely text from the ground truth and its chronologically shuffled version. CAR reveals many cases where current motion-language models fail to distinguish the event chronology of human motion, despite their impressive performance in terms of conventional evaluation metrics. To achieve better temporal alignment between text and motion, we further propose to use these texts with shuffled sequence of events as negative samples during training to reinforce the motion-language models. We conduct experiments on text-motion retrieval and text-to-motion generation using the reinforced motion-language models, which demonstrate improved performance over conventional approaches, indicating the necessity to consider temporal elements in motion-language alignment."

展开摘要

"Recent work on image content manipulation based on vision-language pre-training models has been effectively extended to text-driven 3D scene editing. However, existing schemes for 3D scene editing still exhibit certain shortcomings, hindering their further interactive design. Such schemes typically adhere to fixed input patterns, limiting users’ flexibility in text input. Moreover, their editing capabilities are constrained by a single or a few 2D visual models and require intricate pipeline design to integrate these models into 3D reconstruction processes. To address the aforementioned issues, we propose a dialogue-based 3D scene editing approach, termed , which is centered around a large language model that allows for arbitrary textual input from users and interprets their intentions, subsequently facilitating the autonomous invocation of the corresponding visual expert models. Furthermore, we design a scheme utilizing Hash-Atlas to represent 3D scene views, which transfers the editing of 3D scenes onto 2D atlas images. This design achieves complete decoupling between the 2D editing and 3D reconstruction processes, enabling to flexibly integrate a wide range of existing 2D or 3D visual models without necessitating intricate fusion designs. Experimental results demonstrate that effectively integrates multiple visual models to achieve diverse editing visual effects, possessing strong scene comprehension and multi-round dialog capabilities. The source codes can be made available at https://sk-fun. fun/CE3D."

Characterizing Model Robustness via Natural Input Gradients

Adrian Rodriguez-Munoz*, Tongzhou Wang, Antonio Torralba

展开摘要

"Adversarially robust models are locally smooth around each data sample so that small perturbations cannot drastically change model outputs. In modern systems, such smoothness is usually obtained via Adversarial Training, which explicitly enforces models to perform well on perturbed examples. In this work, we show the surprising effectiveness of instead regularizing the gradient model inputs on natural examples only. Penalizing input Gradient Norm is commonly believed to be a much inferior approach. Our analyses identify that the performance of Gradient Norm regularization critically depends on the smoothness of activation functions, and are in fact extremely effective on modern vision transformers that adopt smooth activations over piecewise linear ones (, ReLU), contrary to prior belief. On ImageNet-1k, Gradient Norm training achieves > 90% the performance of state-of-the-art PGD-3 Adversarial Training (52% vs. 56%), while using only 60% computation cost of the state-of-the-art without complex adversarial optimization. Our analyses also highlight the relationship between model robustness and properties of natural input gradients, such as asymmetric sample and channel statistics. Surprisingly, we find model robustness can be significantly improved by simply regularizing its gradients to concentrate on image edges without explicit conditioning on the gradient norm."

展开摘要

"In this study, we introduce a methodology for human image animation by leveraging a 3D human parametric model within a latent diffusion framework to enhance shape alignment and motion guidance in current human generative techniques. The methodology utilizes the SMPL(Skinned Multi-Person Linear) model as the 3D human parametric model to establish a unified representation of body shape and pose. This facilitates the accurate capture of intricate human geometry and motion characteristics from source videos. Specifically, we incorporate rendered depth images, normal maps, and semantic maps obtained from SMPL sequences, alongside skeleton-based motion guidance, to enrich the conditions of the latent diffusion model with comprehensive 3D shape and detailed pose attributes. A multi-layer motion fusion module, integrating self-attention mechanisms, is employed to fuse the shape and motion latent representations in the spatial domain. By representing the 3D human parametric model as the motion guidance, we can perform parametric shape alignment of the human body between the reference image and the source video motion. Experimental evaluations on benchmark datasets demonstrate the methodology’s superior ability to generate high-quality human animations that accurately capture pose and shape variations. Furthermore, our approach also exhibits superior generalization capabilities on the proposed in-the-wild dataset."
