UniDream: Unifying Diffusion Priors for Relightable Text-to-3D Generation

Zexiang Liu, Yangguang Li, Youtian Lin, Xin Yu, Sida Peng, Yan-Pei Cao, Xiaojuan Qi, Xiaoshui Huang, Ding Liang, Wanli Ouyang

展开摘要

"Recent advancements in text-to-3D generation technology have significantly advanced the conversion of textual descriptions into imaginative well-geometrical and finely textured 3D objects. Despite these developments, a prevalent limitation arises from the use of RGB data in diffusion or reconstruction models, which often results in models with inherent lighting and shadows effects that detract from their realism, thereby limiting their usability in applications that demand accurate relighting capabilities. To bridge this gap, we present UniDream, a text-to-3D generation framework by incorporating unified diffusion priors. Our approach consists of three main components: (1) a dual-phase training process to get albedo-normal aligned multi-view diffusion and reconstruction models, (2) a progressive generation procedure for geometry and albedo-textures based on Score Distillation Sample (SDS) using the trained reconstruction and diffusion models, and (3) an innovative application of SDS for finalizing PBR generation while keeping a fixed albedo based on Stable Diffusion model. Extensive evaluations demonstrate that UniDream surpasses existing methods in generating 3D objects with clearer albedo textures, smoother surfaces, enhanced realism, and superior relighting capabilities. UniCode : Learning a Unified Codebook for Multimodal Large Language Models

展开摘要

"In this paper, we propose UniCode, a novel approach within the domain of multimodal large language models (MLLMs) that learns a unified codebook to efficiently tokenize visual, text, and potentially other types of signals. This innovation addresses a critical limitation in existing MLLMs: their reliance on a text-only codebook, which restricts MLLMs’ ability to generate images and texts in a multimodal context. Towards this end, we propose a language-driven iterative training paradigm, coupled with an in-context pre-training task we term “image decompression”, enabling our model to interpret compressed visual data and generate high-quality images. The unified codebook empowers our model to extend visual instruction tuning to non-linguistic generation tasks. Moreover, UniCode is adaptable to diverse stacked quantization approaches in order to compress visual signals into a more compact token representation. Despite using significantly fewer parameters and less data during training, UniCode demonstrates promising capabilities in visual reconstruction and generation. It also achieves performance comparable to leading MLLMs across a spectrum of VQA benchmarks."

展开摘要

"Self-driving vehicles (SDVs) require accurate calibration of LiDARs and cameras to fuse sensor data accurately for autonomy. Traditional calibration methods typically leverage fiducials captured in a controlled and structured scene and compute correspondences to optimize over. These approaches are costly and require substantial infrastructure and operations, making it challenging to scale for vehicle fleets. In this work, we propose , a unified framework for effortlessly calibrating SDVs equipped with multiple LiDARs and cameras. Our approach is built upon a differentiable scene representation capable of rendering multi-view geometrically and photometrically consistent sensor observations. We jointly learn the sensor calibration and the underlying scene representation through differentiable volume rendering, utilizing outdoor sensor data without the need for specific calibration fiducials. This “drive-and-calibrate” approach significantly reduces costs and operational overhead compared to existing calibration systems, enabling efficient calibration for large SDV fleets at scale. To ensure geometric consistency across observations from different sensors, we introduce a novel surface alignment loss that combines feature-based registration with neural rendering. Comprehensive evaluations on multiple datasets demonstrate that outperforms or matches the accuracy of existing calibration approaches while being more efficient, demonstrating the value of for scalable calibration. 展开摘要

"We present Uni3DL, a unified model for 3D Vision-Language understanding. Distinct from existing unified 3D vision-language models that mostly rely on projected multi-view images and support limited tasks, Uni3DL operates directly on point clouds and significantly broadens the spectrum of tasks in the 3D domain, encompassing both vision and vision-language tasks. At the core of Uni3DL, a query transformer is designed to learn task-agnostic semantic and mask outputs by attending to 3D visual features, and a task router is employed to selectively produce task-specific outputs required for diverse tasks. With a unified architecture, our Uni3DL model enjoys seamless task decomposition and substantial parameter sharing across tasks. Uni3DL has been rigorously evaluated across diverse 3D vision-language understanding tasks, including semantic segmentation, object detection, instance segmentation, visual grounding, 3D captioning, and text-3D cross-modal retrieval. It demonstrates performance on par with or surpassing state-of-the-art (SOTA) task-specific models. We hope our benchmark and Uni3DL model will serve as a solid step to ease future research in unified models in the realm of 3D vision-language understanding. 展开摘要

"Human-annotated vision datasets inevitably contain a fraction of human-mislabelled examples. While the detrimental effects of such mislabelling on supervised learning are well-researched, their influence on Supervised Contrastive Learning (SCL) remains largely unexplored. In this paper, we show that human-labelling errors not only differ significantly from synthetic label errors, but also pose unique challenges in SCL, different to those in traditional supervised learning methods. Specifically, our results indicate they adversely impact the learning process in the ∼99% of cases when they occur as false positive samples. Existing noise-mitigating methods primarily focus on synthetic label errors and tackle the unrealistic setting of very high synthetic noise rates (40–80%), but they often underperform on common image datasets due to overfitting. To address this issue, we introduce a novel SCL objective with robustness to human-labelling errors, SCL-RHE. SCL-RHE is designed to mitigate the effects of real-world mislabelled examples, typically characterized by much lower noise rates (< 5%). We demonstrate that SCL-RHE consistently outperforms state-of-the-art representation learning and noise-mitigating methods across various vision benchmarks, by offering improved resilience against human-labelling errors."

展开摘要

"The ability to understand physical dynamics is critical for agents to act in the world. Here, we use Counterfactual World Modeling (CWM) to extract vision structures for dynamics understanding. CWM uses a temporally-factored masking policy for masked prediction of video data without annotations. This policy enables highly effective “counterfactual prompting” of the predictor, allowing a spectrum of visual structures to be extracted from a single pre-trained predictor without finetuning on annotated datasets. We demonstrate that these structures are useful for physical dynamics understanding, allowing CWM to achieve the state-of-the-art performance on the Physion benchmark. Code is available at https://neuroailab.github.io/cwm-physics/."

Understanding Multi-compositional learning in Vision and Language models via Category Theory

展开摘要

"Pre-trained large language models (and multi-modal models) offer excellent performance across a wide range of tasks. Despite their effectiveness, we have limited knowledge of their internal knowledge representation. To get started, we use the classic problem of Compositional Zero-Shot Learning (CZSL) as an example, and first provide a structured view of the latent space that any general model (LLM or otherwise) should nominally respect. We obtain a practical solution to the CZSL problem that can deal with both Open and Closed-World single-attribute compositions as well as multi-attribute compositions with relative ease, where we achieve performance competitive with methods designed solely for that task (i.e., adaptations to other tasks are difficult). Then, we extend this perspective to analysis of existing LLMs and ask to what extent they satisfy our axiomatic definitions. Our analysis shows a mix of interesting and unsurprising findings, but nonetheless suggests that our criteria is meaningful and may yield a more structured approach for potential incorporation in training such models, strategies for additional data collection, and diagnostics beyond visual inspection. 展开摘要

"Sign language video retrieval plays a key role in facilitating information access for the deaf community. Despite significant advances in video-text retrieval, the complexity and inherent uncertainty of sign language preclude direct applications of these techniques. Previous methods achieve mapping between sign language videos and text through fine-grained modal alignment. However, due to the scarcity of fine-grained annotations, the uncertainty inherent in sign language videos is underestimated, limiting further development of sign language retrieval tasks. To address this challenge, we propose a new Uncertainty-aware Probability Distribution Retrieval (UPRet), which conceptualizes the mapping process of sign language videos and texts in terms of probability distributions, explores their potential interrelationships, and enables flexible mappings. Experiments on three benchmarks demonstrate the effectiveness of our method, which achieves state-of-the-art results on How2Sign (59.1%), PHOENIX-2014T (72.0%), and CSL-Daily (78.4%). Uncertainty-Driven Spectral Compressive Imaging with Spatial-Frequency Transformer

展开摘要

"Recently, learning-based Hyperspectral image (HSI) reconstruction methods have demonstrated promising performance. However, existing learning-based methods still face two issues. 1) They rarely consider both the spatial sparsity and inter-spectral similarity priors of HSI. 2) They treat all image regions equally, ignoring that texture-rich and edge regions are more difficult to reconstruct than smooth regions. To address these issues, we propose an uncertainty-driven HSI reconstruction method termed Specformer. Specifically, we first introduce a frequency-wise self-attention (FWSA) module, and combine it with a spatial-wise local-window self-attention (LWSA) module in parallel to form a Spatial-Frequency (SF) block. LWSA can guide the network to focus on the regions with dense spectral information, and FWSA can capture the inter-spectral similarity. Parallel design helps the network to model cross-window connections, and expand its receptive fields while maintaining linear complexity. We use SF-block as the main building block in a multi-scale U-shape network to form our Specformer. In addition, we introduce an uncertainty-driven loss function, which can reinforce the network’s attention to the challenging regions with rich textures and edges. Experiments on simulated and real HSI datasets show that our Specformer outperforms state-of-the-art methods with lower computational and memory costs. The code is available at https://github.com/bianlab/Specformer."

Uncertainty Calibration with Energy Based Instance-wise Scaling in the Wild Dataset

Mijoo Kim, Junseok Kwon

展开摘要

"With the rapid advancement in the performance of deep neural networks (DNNs), there has been significant interest in deploying and incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) systems into real-world scenarios. However, many DNNs lack the ability to represent uncertainty, often exhibiting excessive confidence even when making incorrect predictions. To ensure the reliability of AI systems, particularly in safety-critical cases, DNNs should transparently reflect the uncertainty in their predictions. In this paper, we investigate robust post-hoc uncertainty calibration methods for DNNs within the context of multi-class classification tasks. While previous studies have made notable progress, they still face challenges in achieving robust calibration, particularly in scenarios involving out-of-distribution (OOD). We identify that previous methods lack adaptability to individual input data and struggle to accurately estimate uncertainty when processing inputs drawn from the wild dataset. To address this issue, we introduce a novel instance-wise calibration method based on an energy model. Our method incorporates energy scores instead of softmax confidence scores, allowing for adaptive consideration of DNN uncertainty for each prediction within a logit space. In experiments, we show that the proposed method consistently maintains robust performance across the spectrum, spanning from in-distribution to OOD scenarios, when compared to other state-of-the-art methods. Un-EVIMO: Unsupervised Event-based Independent Motion Segmentation

展开摘要

"Event cameras are a novel type of biologically inspired vision sensor known for their high temporal resolution, high dynamic range, and low power consumption. Because of these properties, they are well-suited for processing fast motions that require rapid reactions. Event cameras have shown competitive performance in unsupervised optical flow estimation. However, performance in detecting independently moving objects (IMOs) is lacking behind, although event-based methods would be suited for this task based on their low latency and HDR properties. Previous approaches to event-based IMO segmentation heavily depended on labeled data. However, biological vision systems have developed the ability to avoid moving objects through daily tasks without using explicit labels. In this work, we propose the first event framework that generates IMO pseudo-labels using geometric constraints. Due to its unsupervised nature, our method can flexibly handle a non-predetermined arbitrary number of objects and is easily scalable to datasets where expensive IMO labels are not readily available. Our approach shows competitive performance on the EVIMO dataset compared with supervised methods, both quantitatively and qualitatively. See the project website for details: https://www.cis.upenn.edu/~ziyunw/un_evimo/."

URS-NeRF: Unordered Rolling Shutter Bundle Adjustment for Neural Radiance Fields

bo xu, Liu Ziao, Mengqi Guo, jiancheng Li, Gim Hee Lee

展开摘要

"In this paper, we propose a novel rolling shutter bundle adjustment method for neural radiance fields (NeRF), which utilizes the unordered rolling shutter (RS) images to obtain the implicit 3D representation. Existing NeRF methods suffer from low-quality images and inaccurate initial camera poses due to the RS effect in the image. Furthermore, the previous method that incorporates RS images into NeRF requires strict sequential data input, thus limiting its widespread applicability. In contrast, our method recovers the physical formation of RS images by estimating camera poses and velocities, thereby removing the input constraints on sequential data. Moreover, we adopt a coarse-to-fine training strategy, in which the RS epipolar constraints of the pairwise frames in the scene graph are used to detect the camera poses that fall into local minima. The poses detected as outliers are corrected by the interpolation method with neighboring poses. The experimental results validate the effectiveness of our method over state-of-the-art works and demonstrate that the reconstruction of 3D representations is not constrained by the requirement of video sequence input"

展开摘要

"We introduce UPose3D, a novel approach for multi-view 3D human pose estimation, addressing challenges in accuracy and scalability. Our method advances existing pose estimation frameworks by improving robustness and flexibility without requiring direct 3D annotations. At the core of our method, a pose compiler module refines predictions from a 2D keypoints estimator that operates on a single image by leveraging temporal and cross-view information. Our novel cross-view fusion strategy is scalable to any number of cameras, while our synthetic data generation strategy ensures generalization across diverse actors, scenes, and viewpoints. Finally, UPose3D leverages the prediction uncertainty of both the 2D keypoint estimator and the pose compiler module. This provides robustness to outliers and noisy data, resulting in state-of-the-art performance in out-of-distribution settings. In addition, for in-distribution settings, UPose3D yields performance rivalling methods that rely on 3D annotated data while being the state-of-the-art among methods relying only on 2D supervision."

展开摘要

"Deep neural networks (DNNs) have demonstrated effectiveness in various fields. However, DNNs are vulnerable to backdoor attacks, which inject a unique pattern, called trigger, into the input to cause misclassification to an attack-chosen target label. While existing works have proposed various methods to mitigate backdoor effects in poisoned models, they tend to be less effective against recent advanced attacks. In this paper, we introduce a novel post-training defense technique that can effectively eliminate backdoor effects for a variety of attacks. In specific, approximates a unique and tight activation distribution for each neuron in the model. It then proactively dispels substantially large activation values that exceed the approximated boundaries. Our experimental results demonstrate that outperforms 7 popular defense methods against 14 existing backdoor attacks, including 2 advanced attacks, using only 5% of clean training data. is also cost efficient. UNIKD: UNcertainty-Filtered Incremental Knowledge Distillation for Neural Implicit Representation

Mengqi Guo, Chen Li, Hanlin Chen, Gim Hee Lee

展开摘要

"Recent neural implicit representations (NIRs) have achieved great success in the tasks of 3D reconstruction and novel view synthesis. However, they require the images of a scene from different camera views to be available for one-time training. This is expensive especially for scenarios with large-scale scenes and limited data storage. In view of this, we explore the task of incremental learning for NIRs in this work. We design a student-teacher framework to mitigate the catastrophic forgetting problem. Specifically, we iterate the process of using the student as the teacher at the end of each time step and let the teacher guide the training of the student in the next step. As a result, the student network is able to learn new information from the streaming data and retain old knowledge from the teacher network simultaneously. Although intuitive, naively applying the student-teacher pipeline does not work well in our task. Not all information from the teacher network is helpful since it is only trained with the old data. To alleviate this problem, we further introduce a random inquirer and an uncertainty-based filter to filter useful information. Our proposed method is general and thus can be adapted to different implicit representations such as neural radiance field (NeRF) and neural surface field. Extensive experimental results for both 3D reconstruction and novel view synthesis demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach compared to different baselines."

展开摘要

"Pretrained models have become a commodity and offer strong results on a broad range of tasks. In this work, we focus on classification and seek to learn a unique encoder able to take from several complementary pretrained models. We aim at even stronger generalization across a variety of classification tasks. We propose to learn such an encoder via multi-teacher distillation. We first thoroughly analyze standard distillation when driven by multiple strong teachers with complementary strengths. Guided by this analysis, we gradually propose improvements to the basic distillation setup. Among those, we enrich the architecture of the encoder with a ladder of expendable projectors, which increases the impact of intermediate features during distillation, and we introduce teacher dropping, a regularization mechanism that better balances the teachers’ influence. Our final distillation strategy leads to student models of the same capacity as any of the teachers, while retaining or improving upon the performance of the best teacher for each task."

展开摘要

"Vision-language foundation models, represented by Contras-tive Language-Image Pre-training (CLIP), have gained increasing attention for jointly understanding both vision and textual tasks. However, existing approaches primarily focus on training models to match global image representations with textual descriptions, thereby overlooking the critical alignment between local regions and corresponding text tokens. This paper extends CLIP with multi-granularity alignment. Notably, we deliberately construct a new dataset comprising pseudo annotations at various levels of granularities, encompassing image-level, region-level as well as pixel-level captions and tags. Accordingly, we develop a Unified Multi-Granularity learning framework, termed UMG-CLIP, which simultaneously empowers the model with versatile perception abilities across different levels of detail. With parameter efficient tuning, UMG-CLIP surpasses current widely used CLIP variants and achieves state-of-the-art performance on diverse image understanding benchmarks, including open-world recognition, retrieval, semantic segmentation, and panoptic segmentation tasks. We believe that UMG-CLIP represents a valuable advancement in vision-language foundation models. The code is available at https://github. com/lygsbw/UMG-CLIP."

UMERegRobust – Universal Manifold Embedding Compatible Features for Robust Point Cloud Registration

展开摘要

"In this paper, we adopt the Universal Manifold Embedding (UME) framework for the estimation of rigid transformations and extend it, so that it can accommodate scenarios involving partial overlap and differently sampled point clouds. UME is a methodology designed for mapping observations of the same object, related by rigid transformations, into a single low-dimensional linear subspace. This process yields a transformation-invariant representation of the observations, with its matrix form representation being covariant (equivariant) with the transformation. We extend the UME framework by introducing a UME-compatible feature extraction method augmented with a unique UME contrastive loss and a sampling equalizer. These components are integrated into a comprehensive and robust registration pipeline, named UMERegRobust. We propose the RotKITTI registration benchmark, specifically tailored to evaluate registration methods for scenarios involving large rotations. UMERegRobust achieves better than state-of-the-art performance on the KITTI benchmark, especially when strict precision of (1◦ , 10cm) is considered (with an average gain of +9%), and notably outperform SOTA methods on the RotKITTI benchmark (with +45% gain compared the most recent SOTA method). UMBRAE: Unified Multimodal Brain Decoding

展开摘要

"We address prevailing challenges of the brain-powered research, departing from the observation that the literature hardly recover accurate spatial information and require subject-specific models. To address these challenges, we propose UMBRAE, a unified multimodal decoding of brain signals. First, to extract instance-level conceptual and spatial details from neural signals, we introduce an efficient universal brain encoder for multimodal-brain alignment and recover object descriptions at multiple levels of granularity from subsequent multimodal large language model (MLLM). Second, we introduce a cross-subject training strategy mapping subject-specific features to a common feature space. This allows a model to be trained on multiple subjects without extra resources, even yielding superior results compared to subject-specific models. Further, we demonstrate this supports weakly-supervised adaptation to new subjects, with only a fraction of the total training data. Experiments demonstrate that not only achieves superior results in the newly introduced tasks but also outperforms methods in well established tasks. To assess our method, we construct and share with the community a comprehensive brain understanding benchmark . Our code and benchmark are available at https://weihaox.github.io/UMBRAE."

UL-VIO: Ultra-lightweight Visual-Inertial Odometry with Noise Robust Test-time Adaptation

Jinho Park, Se Young Chun, Mingoo Seok

展开摘要

"Data-driven visual-inertial odometry (VIO) has received highlights for its performance since VIOs are a crucial compartment in autonomous robots. However, their deployment on resource-constrained devices is non-trivial since large network parameters should be accommodated in the device memory. Furthermore, these networks may risk failure post-deployment due to environmental distribution shifts at test time. In light of this, we propose UL-VIO – an ultra-lightweight (< 1M) VIO network capable of test-time adaptation (TTA) based on visual-inertial consistency. Specifically, we perform model compression to the network while preserving the low-level encoder part, including all BatchNorm parameters for resource-efficient test-time adaptation. It achieves 36× smaller network size than state-of-the-art with a minute increase in error – 1% on the KITTI dataset. For test-time adaptation, we propose to use the inertia-referred network outputs as pseudo labels and update the BatchNorm parameter for lightweight yet effective adaptation. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work to perform noise-robust TTA on VIO. Experimental results on the KITTI, EuRoC, and Marulan datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our resource-efficient adaptation method under diverse TTA scenarios with dynamic domain shifts."
