DiffCD: A Symmetric Differentiable Chamfer Distance for Neural Implicit Surface Fitting

Linus Härenstam-Nielsen, Lu Sang, Abhishek Saroha, Nikita Araslanov, Daniel Cremers

展开摘要

"Neural implicit surfaces can be used to recover accurate 3D geometry from imperfect point clouds. In this work, we show that state-of-the-art techniques work by minimizing an approximation of a one-sided Chamfer distance. This shape metric is not symmetric, as it only ensures that the point cloud is near the surface but not vice versa. As a consequence, existing methods can produce inaccurate reconstructions with spurious surfaces. Although one approach against spurious surfaces has been widely used in the literature, we theoretically and experimentally show that it is equivalent to regularizing the surface area, resulting in over-smoothing. As a more appealing alternative, we propose DiffCD, a novel loss function corresponding to the symmetric Chamfer distance. In contrast to previous work, DiffCD also assures that the surface is near the point cloud, which eliminates spurious surfaces without the need for additional regularization. We experimentally show that DiffCD reliably recovers a high degree of shape detail, substantially outperforming existing work across varying surface complexity and noise levels. Project code is available at https://github.com/linusnie/ diffcd."

展开摘要

"We present DiffBIR, a general restoration pipeline that could handle different blind image restoration tasks in a unified framework. DiffBIR decouples blind image restoration problem into two stages: 1) degradation removal: removing image-independent content; 2) information regeneration: generating the lost image content. Each stage is developed independently but they work seamlessly in a cascaded manner. In the first stage, we use restoration modules to remove degradations and obtain high-fidelity restored results. For the second stage, we propose IRControlNet that leverages the generative ability of latent diffusion models to generate realistic details. Specifically, IRControlNet is trained based on specially produced condition images without distracting noisy content for stable generation performance. Moreover, we design a region-adaptive restoration guidance that can modify the denoising process during inference without model re-training, allowing users to balance quality and fidelity through a tunable guidance scale. Extensive experiments have demonstrated DiffBIR’s superiority over state-of-the-art approaches for blind image super-resolution, blind face restoration and blind image denoising tasks on both synthetic and real-world datasets. The code is available at https://github.com/XPixelGroup/DiffBIR."

Diff3DETR: Agent-based Diffusion Model for Semi-supervised 3D Object Detection

Jiacheng Deng, Jiahao Lu, Tianzhu Zhang

展开摘要

"3D object detection is essential for understanding 3D scenes. Contemporary techniques often require extensive annotated training data, yet obtaining point-wise annotations for point clouds is time-consuming and laborious. Recent developments in semi-supervised methods seek to mitigate this problem by employing a teacher-student framework to generate pseudo-labels for unlabeled point clouds. However, these pseudo-labels frequently suffer from insufficient diversity and inferior quality. To overcome these hurdles, we introduce an Agent-based Diffusion Model for Semi-supervised 3D Object Detection (Diff3DETR). Specifically, an agent-based object query generator is designed to produce object queries that effectively adapt to dynamic scenes while striking a balance between sampling locations and content embedding. Additionally, a box-aware denoising module utilizes the DDIM denoising process and the long-range attention in the transformer decoder to refine bounding boxes incrementally. Extensive experiments on ScanNet and SUN RGB-D datasets demonstrate that Diff3DETR outperforms state-of-the-art semi-supervised 3D object detection methods."

展开摘要

"We introduce Diff-Tracker, a novel approach for the challenging unsupervised visual tracking task leveraging the pre-trained text-to-image diffusion model. Our main idea is to leverage the rich knowledge encapsulated within the pre-trained diffusion model, such as the understanding of image semantics and structural information, to address unsupervised visual tracking. To this end, we design an initial prompt learner to enable the diffusion model to recognize the tracking target by learning a prompt representing the target. Furthermore, to facilitate dynamic adaptation of the prompt to the target’s movements, we propose an online prompt updater. Extensive experiments on five benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method, which also achieves state-of-the-art performance."

Diff-Reg: Diffusion Model in Doubly Stochastic Matrix Space for Registration Problem

展开摘要

"Establishing reliable correspondences is essential for 3D and 2D-3D registration tasks. Existing methods commonly leverage geometric or semantic point features to generate potential correspondences. However, these features may face challenges such as large deformation, scale inconsistency, and ambiguous matching problems (e.g., symmetry). Additionally, many previous methods, which rely on single-pass prediction, may struggle with local minima in complex scenarios. To mitigate these challenges, we introduce a diffusion matching model for robust correspondence construction. Our approach treats correspondence estimation as a denoising diffusion process within the doubly stochastic matrix space, which gradually denoises (refines) a doubly stochastic matching matrix to the ground-truth one for high-quality correspondence estimation. It involves a forward diffusion process that gradually introduces Gaussian noise into the ground truth matching matrix and a reverse denoising process that iteratively refines the noisy one. In particular, we deploy a lightweight denoising strategy during the inference phase. Specifically, once points/image features are extracted and fixed, we utilize them to conduct multiple-pass denoising predictions in the reverse sampling process. Evaluation of our method on both 3D and 2D-3D registration tasks confirms its effectiveness. The code is available at https://github.com/wuqianliang/Diff-Reg."

Diagnosing and Re-learning for Balanced Multimodal Learning

Yake Wei, Siwei Li, Ruoxuan Feng, Di Hu

展开摘要

"To overcome the imbalanced multimodal learning problem, where models prefer the training of specific modalities, existing methods propose to control the training of uni-modal encoders from different perspectives, taking the inter-modal performance discrepancy as the basis. However, the intrinsic limitation of modality capacity is ignored. The scarcely informative modalities can be recognized as “worse-learnt” ones, which could force the model to memorize more noise, counterproductively affecting the multimodal model ability. Moreover, the current modality modulation methods narrowly concentrate on selected worse-learnt modalities, even suppressing the training of others. Hence, it is essential to consider the intrinsic limitation of modality capacity and take all modalities into account during balancing. To this end, we propose the Diagnosing & Re-learning method. The learning state of each modality is firstly estimated based on the separability of its uni-modal representation space, and then used to softly re-initialize the corresponding uni-modal encoder. In this way, the over-emphasizing of scarcely informative modalities is avoided. In addition, encoders of worse-learnt modalities are enhanced, simultaneously avoiding the over-training of other modalities. Accordingly, multimodal learning is effectively balanced and enhanced. Experiments covering multiple types of modalities and multimodal frameworks demonstrate the superior performance of our simple-yet-effective method for balanced multimodal learning. Detecting As Labeling: Rethinking LiDAR-camera Fusion in 3D Object Detection

展开摘要

"3D object Detection with LiDAR-camera encounters overfitting in algorithm development derived from violating some fundamental rules. We refer to the data annotation in dataset construction for theoretical optimization and argue that the regression task prediction should not involve the feature from the camera branch. Following the cutting-edge perspective of ’Detecting As Labeling’, we propose a novel paradigm dubbed DAL. With the most classical elementary algorithms, a simple predicting pipeline is constructed by imitating the data annotation process. Then we train it in the simplest way to minimize its dependency and strengthen its portability. Though simple in construction and training, the proposed DAL paradigm not only substantially pushes the performance boundary but also provides a superior trade-off between speed and accuracy among all existing methods. With comprehensive superiority, DAL is an ideal baseline for both future work development and practical deployment. The code has been released to facilitate future work https://github.com/ HuangJunJie2017/BEVDet."

展开摘要

"Offline signature verification (OSV) is a frequently utilized technology in forensics. This paper proposes a new model, DetailSemNet, for OSV. Unlike previous methods that rely on holistic features for pair comparisons, our approach underscores the significance of fine-grained differences for robust OSV. We propose to match local structures between two signature images, significantly boosting verification accuracy. Furthermore, we observe that without specific architectural modifications, transformer-based backbones might naturally obscure local details, adversely impacting OSV performance. To address this, we introduce a Detail-Semantics Integrator, leveraging feature disentanglement and re-entanglement. This integrator is specifically designed to enhance intricate details while simultaneously expanding discriminative semantics, thereby augmenting the efficacy of local structural matching. We evaluate our method against leading benchmarks in offline signature verification. Our model consistently outperforms recent methods, achieving state-of-the-art results with clear margins. The emphasis on local structure matching not only improves performance but also enhances the model’s interpretability, supporting our findings. Additionally, our model demonstrates remarkable generalization capabilities in cross-dataset testing scenarios. The combination of generalizability and interpretability significantly bolsters the potential of DetailSemNet for real-world applications."

展开摘要

"We present DetToolChain, a novel prompting paradigm, to unleash the zero-shot object detection ability of multimodal large language models (MLLMs), such as GPT-4V and Gemini. Our approach consists of a detection prompting toolkit inspired by high-precision detection priors and a new Chain-of-Thought to implement these prompts. Specifically, the prompts in the toolkit are designed to guide the MLLM to focus on regional information (e.g., zooming in), read coordinates according to measure standards (e.g., overlaying rulers and compasses), and infer from the contextual information (e.g., overlaying scene graphs). Building upon these tools, the new detection chain-of-thought can automatically decompose the task into simple subtasks, diagnose the predictions, and plan for progressive box refinements. The effectiveness of our framework is demonstrated across a spectrum of detection tasks, especially hard cases. Compared to existing state-of-the-art methods, GPT-4V with our DetToolChain improves state-of-the-art object detectors by +21.5% AP50 on MS COCO Novel class set for open-vocabulary detection, +24.23% Acc on RefCOCO val set for zero-shot referring expression comprehension, +14.5% AP on D-cube describe object detection FULL setting. Depth-guided NeRF Training via Earth Mover’s Distance

展开摘要

"Neural Radiance Fields (NeRFs) are trained to minimize the rendering loss of predicted viewpoints. However, the photometric loss often does not provide enough information to disambiguate between different possible geometries yielding the same image. Previous work has thus incorporated depth supervision during NeRF training, leveraging dense predictions from pre-trained depth networks as pseudo-ground truth. While these depth priors are assumed to be perfect once filtered for noise, in practice, their accuracy is more challenging to capture. This work proposes a novel approach to uncertainty in depth priors for NeRF supervision. Instead of using custom-trained depth or uncertainty priors, we use off-the-shelf pretrained diffusion models to predict depth and capture uncertainty during the denoising process. Because we know that depth priors are prone to errors, we propose to supervise the ray termination distance distribution with Earth Mover’s Distance instead of enforcing the rendered depth to replicate the depth prior exactly through L2 -loss. Our depth-guided NeRF outperforms all baselines on standard depth metrics by a large margin while maintaining performance on photometric measures."

Depth-Aware Blind Image Decomposition for Real-World Adverse Weather Recovery

Chao Wang, Zhedong Zheng, Ruijie Quan, Yi Yang

展开摘要

"In this paper, we delve into Blind Image Decomposition (BID) tailored for real-world scenarios, aiming to uniformly recover images from diverse, unknown weather combinations and intensities. Our investigation uncovers one inherent gap between the controlled lab settings and the complex real-world environments. In particular, existing BID methods and datasets usually overlook the physical property that adverse weather varies with scene depth rather than a uniform depth, thus constraining their efficiency on real-world photos. To address this limitation, we design an end-to-end Depth-aware Blind Network, namely DeBNet, to explicitly learn the depth-aware transmissivity maps, and further predict the depth-guided noise residual to jointly produce the restored output. Moreover, we employ neural architecture search to adaptively find optimal architectures within our specified search space, considering significant shape and structure differences between multiple degradations. To verify the effectiveness, we further introduce two new BID datasets, namely BID-CityScapes and BID-GTAV, which simulate depth-aware degradations on real-world and synthetic outdoor images, respectively. Extensive experiments on both existing and proposed benchmarks show the superiority of our method over state-of-the-art approaches."

Depth on Demand: Streaming Dense Depth from a Low Frame Rate Active Sensor

Andrea Conti*, Matteo Poggi, Valerio Cambareri, Stefano Mattoccia

展开摘要

"High frame rate and accurate depth estimation plays an important role in several tasks crucial to robotics and automotive perception. To date, this can be achieved through ToF and LiDAR devices for indoor and outdoor applications, respectively. However, their applicability is limited by low frame rate, energy consumption, and spatial sparsity. Depth on Demand (DoD) allows for accurate temporal and spatial depth densification achieved by exploiting a high frame rate RGB sensor coupled with a potentially lower frame rate and sparse active depth sensor. Our proposal jointly enables lower energy consumption and denser shape reconstruction, by significantly reducing the streaming requirements on the depth sensor thanks to its three core stages: i) multi-modal encoding, ii) iterative multi-modal integration, and iii) depth decoding. We present extended evidence assessing the effectiveness of DoD on indoor and outdoor video datasets, covering both environment scanning and automotive perception use cases."

"We introduce a Depicted image Quality Assessment method (), overcoming the constraints of traditional score-based methods. allows for detailed, language-based, human-like evaluation of image quality by leveraging Multi-modal Large Language Models (MLLMs). Unlike conventional Image Quality Assessment (IQA) methods relying on scores, interprets image content and distortions descriptively and comparatively, aligning closely with humans’ reasoning process. To build the model, we establish a hierarchical task framework, and collect a multi-modal IQA training dataset. To tackle the challenges of limited training data and multi-image processing, we propose to use multi-source training data and specialized image tags. These designs result in a better performance of than score-based approaches on multiple benchmarks. Moreover, compared with general MLLMs, can generate more accurate reasoning descriptive languages. We also demonstrate that our full-reference dataset can be extended to non-reference applications. These results showcase the research potential of multi-modal IQA methods."

Dependency-aware Differentiable Neural Architecture Search

展开摘要

"UTF8gbsn Neural architecture search (NAS) reduces the burden of manual design by automatically building neural network architectures, among which differential NAS approaches such as DARTS, have gained popularity for the search efficiency. Despite achieving promising performance, the DARTS series methods still suffer two issues: 1) It does not explicitly establish dependencies between edges, potentially leading to suboptimal performance. 2) The high degree of parameter sharing results in inaccurate performance evaluations of subnets. To tackle these issues, we propose to model dependencies explicitly between different edges to construct a high-performance architecture distribution. Specifically, we model the architecture distribution in DARTS as a multivariate normal distribution with learnable mean vector and correlation matrix, representing the base architecture weights of each edge and the dependencies between different edges, respectively. Then, we sample architecture weights from this distribution and alternately train these learnable parameters and network weights by gradient descent. With the learned dependencies, we prune the search space dynamically to alleviate the inaccurate evaluation by only sharing weights among high-performance architectures. Besides, we identify good motifs by analyzing the learned dependencies, which guide human experts to manually design high-performance neural architectures. Extensive experiments and competitive results on multiple NAS Benchmarks demonstrate the effectiveness of our method."

展开摘要

"This paper revives Densely Connected Convolutional Networks (DenseNets) and reveals the underrated effectiveness over predominant ResNet-style architectures. We believe DenseNets’ potential was overlooked due to untouched training methods and traditional design elements not fully revealing their capabilities. Our pilot study shows dense connections through concatenation are strong, demonstrating that DenseNets can be revitalized to compete with modern architectures. We methodically refine suboptimal components - architectural adjustments, block redesign, and improved training recipes towards widening DenseNets and boosting memory efficiency while keeping concatenation shortcuts. Our models, employing simple architectural elements, ultimately surpass Swin Transformer, ConvNeXt, and DeiT-III — key architectures in the residual learning lineage. Furthermore, our models exhibit near state-of-the-art performance on ImageNet-1K, competing with the very recent models and downstream tasks, ADE20k semantic segmentation, and COCO object detection/instance segmentation. Finally, we provide empirical analyses that uncover the merits of the concatenation over additive shortcuts, steering a renewed preference towards DenseNet-style designs. Dense Multimodal Alignment for Open-Vocabulary 3D Scene Understanding

展开摘要

"Recent vision-language pre-training models have exhibited remarkable generalization ability in zero-shot recognition tasks. Previous open-vocabulary 3D scene understanding methods mostly focus on training 3D models using either image or text supervision while neglecting the collective strength of all modalities. In this work, we propose a Dense Multimodal Alignment (DMA) framework to densely co-embed different modalities into a common space for maximizing their synergistic benefits. Instead of extracting coarse view- or region-level text prompts, we leverage large vision-language models to extract complete category information and scalable scene descriptions to build the text modality, and take image modality as the bridge to build dense point-pixel-text associations. Besides, in order to enhance the generalization ability of the 2D model for downstream 3D tasks without compromising the open-vocabulary capability, we employ a dual-path integration approach to combine frozen CLIP visual features and learnable mask features. Extensive experiments show that our DMA method produces highly competitive open-vocabulary segmentation performance on various indoor and outdoor tasks."

展开摘要

"Existing datasets for 3D hand-object interaction are limited either in the data cardinality, data variations in interaction scenarios, or the quality of annotations. In this work, we present a comprehensive new training dataset for hand-object interaction called HOGraspNet. It is the only real dataset that captures full grasp taxonomies, providing grasp annotation and wide intraclass variations. Using grasp taxonomies as atomic actions, their space and time combinatorial can represent complex hand activities around objects. We select 22 rigid objects from the YCB dataset and 8 other compound objects using shape and size taxonomies, ensuring coverage of all hand grasp configurations. The dataset includes diverse hand shapes from 99 participants aged 10 to 74, continuous video frames, and a 1.5M RGB-Depth of sparse frames with annotations. It offers labels for 3D hand and object meshes, 3D keypoints, contact maps, and grasp labels. Accurate hand and object 3D meshes are obtained by fitting the hand parametric model (MANO) and the hand implicit function (HALO) to multi-view RGBD frames, with the MoCap system only for objects. Note that HALO fitting does not require any parameter tuning, enabling scalability to the dataset’s size with comparable accuracy to MANO. We evaluate HOGraspNet on relevant tasks: grasp classification and 3D hand pose estimation. The result shows performance variations based on grasp type and object class, indicating the potential importance of the interaction space captured by our dataset. The provided data aims at learning universal shape priors or foundation models for 3D hand-object interaction. Our dataset and code are available at https://hograspnet2024.github.io/."

Delving into Adversarial Robustness on Document Tampering Localization

Huiru Shao, Zhuang Qian, Kaizhu Huang, Wei Wang, Xiaowei Huang, Qiufeng Wang

展开摘要

"Recent advances in document forgery techniques produce malicious yet nearly visually untraceable alterations, imposing a big challenge for document tampering localization (DTL). Despite significant recent progress, there has been surprisingly limited exploration of adversarial robustness in DTL. This paper presents the first effort to uncover the vulnerability of most existing DTL models to adversarial attacks, highlighting the need for greater attention within the DTL community. In pursuit of robust DTL, we demonstrate that adversarial training can promote the model’s robustness and effectively protect against adversarial attacks. As a notable advancement, we further introduce a latent manifold adversarial training approach that enhances adversarial robustness in DTL by incorporating perturbations on the latent manifold of adversarial examples, rather than exclusively relying on label-guided information. Extensive experiments on DTL benchmark datasets show the necessity of adversarial training and our proposed manifold-based method significantly improves the adversarial robustness on both white-box and black-box attacks. Codes will be available at https://github.com/SHR-77/DTL-ARob.git."

Delving Deep into Engagement Prediction of Short Videos

展开摘要

"Understanding and modeling the popularity of User Generated Content (UGC) short videos on social media platforms presents a critical challenge with broad implications for content creators and recommendation systems. This study delves deep into the intricacies of predicting engagement for newly published videos with limited user interactions. Surprisingly, our findings reveal that Mean Opinion Scores from previous video quality assessment datasets do not strongly correlate with video engagement levels. To address this, we introduce a substantial dataset comprising 90,000 real-world UGC short videos from Snapchat. Rather than relying on view count, average watch time, or rate of likes, we propose two metrics: normalized average watch percentage (NAWP) and engagement continuation rate (ECR) to describe the engagement levels of short videos. Comprehensive multi-modal features, including visual content, background music, and text data, are investigated to enhance engagement prediction. With the proposed dataset and two key metrics, our method demonstrates its ability to predict engagements of short videos purely from video content."

展开摘要

"Defect inspection is paramount within the closed-loop manufacturing system. However, existing datasets for defect inspection often lack the precision and semantic granularity required for practical applications. In this paper, we introduce the Defect Spectrum, a comprehensive benchmark that offers precise, semantic-abundant, and large-scale annotations for a wide range of industrial defects. Building on four key industrial benchmarks, our dataset refines existing annotations and introduces rich semantic details, distinguishing multiple defect types within a single image. With our dataset, we were able to achieve an increase of 10.74% in the Recall rate, and a decrease of 33.10% in the False Positive Rate (FPR) from the industrial simulation experiment. Furthermore, we introduce Defect-Gen, a two-stage diffusion-based generator designed to create high-quality and diverse defective images, even when working with limited defective data. The synthetic images generated by Defect-Gen significantly enhance the performance of defect segmentation models, achieving an improvement in mIoU scores up to 9.85 on Defect-Spectrum subsets. Overall, The Defect Spectrum dataset demonstrates its potential in defect inspection research, offering a solid platform for testing and refining advanced models.
