FSGS: Real-Time Few-shot View Synthesis using Gaussian Splatting

Zehao Zhu, Zhiwen Fan, Yifan Jiang, Zhangyang Wang

展开摘要

"Novel view synthesis from limited observations remains a crucial and ongoing challenge. In the realm of NeRF-based few-shot view synthesis, there is often a trade-off between the accuracy of the synthesized view and the efficiency of the 3D representation. To tackle this dilemma, we introduce a Few-Shot view synthesis framework based on 3D Gaussian Splatting, which facilitates real-time, photo-realistic synthesis from a minimal number of training views. FSGS employs an innovative Proximity-guided Gaussian Unpooling, specifically designed for sparse-view settings, to bridge the gap presented by the sparse initial point sets. This method involves the strategic placement of new Gaussians between existing ones, guided by a Gaussian proximity score, enhancing the adaptive density control. We have identified that Gaussian optimization can sometimes result in overly smooth textures and a propensity for overfitting when training views are limited. To mitigate these issues, FSGS introduces the synthesis of virtual views to replicate the parallax effect experienced during training, coupled with geometric regularization applied across both actual training and synthesized viewpoints. This strategy ensures that new Gaussians are placed in the most representative locations, fostering more accurate and detailed scene reconstruction. Our comprehensive evaluation across various datasets—including NeRF-Synthetic, LLFF, Shiny, and Mip-NeRF360 datasets—illustrates that FSGS not only delivers exceptional rendering quality but also achieves an inference speed more than 2000 times faster than existing state-of-the-art methods for sparse-view synthesis. 展开摘要

"Although multi-view 3D object detection based on the Bird’s-Eye-View (BEV) paradigm has garnered widespread attention as an economical and deployment-friendly perception solution for autonomous driving, there is still a performance gap compared to LiDAR-based methods. In recent years, several cross-modal distillation methods have been proposed to transfer beneficial information from teacher models to student models, with the aim of enhancing performance. However, these methods face challenges due to discrepancies in feature distribution originating from different data modalities and network structures, making knowledge transfer exceptionally challenging. In this paper, we propose a Foreground Self-Distillation (FSD) scheme that effectively avoids the issue of distribution discrepancies, maintaining remarkable distillation effects without the need for pre-trained teacher models or cumbersome distillation strategies. Additionally, we design two Point Cloud Intensification (PCI) strategies to compensate for the sparsity of point clouds by frame combination and pseudo point assignment. Finally, we develop a Multi-Scale Foreground Enhancement (MSFE) module to extract and fuse multi-scale foreground features by predicted elliptical Gaussian heatmap, further improving the model’s performance. We integrate all the above innovations into a unified framework named FSD-BEV. Extensive experiments on the nuScenes dataset exhibit that FSD-BEV achieves state-of-the-art performance, highlighting its effectiveness. 展开摘要

"In this paper, we introduce a novel method called FRI-Net for 2D floorplan reconstruction from 3D point cloud. Existing methods typically rely on corner regression or box regression, which lack consideration for the global shapes of rooms. To address these issues, we propose a novel approach using a room-wise implicit representation with structural regularization to characterize the shapes of rooms in floorplans. By incorporating geometric priors of room layouts in floorplans into our training strategy, the generated room polygons are more geometrically regular. We have conducted experiments on two challenging datasets, Structured3D and SceneCAD. Our method demonstrates improved performance compared to state-of-the-art methods, validating the effectiveness of our proposed representation for floorplan reconstruction."

FREST: Feature RESToration for Semantic Segmentation under Multiple Adverse Conditions

Sohyun Lee, Namyup Kim, Sungyeon Kim, Suha Kwak

展开摘要

"Robust semantic segmentation under adverse conditions is crucial in real-world applications. To address this challenging task in practical scenarios where labeled normal condition images are not accessible in training, we propose FREST, a novel feature restoration framework for source-free domain adaptation (SFDA) of semantic segmentation to adverse conditions. FREST alternates two steps: (1) learning the condition embedding space that only separates the condition information from the features and (2) restoring features of adverse condition images on the learned condition embedding space. By alternating these two steps, FREST gradually restores features where the effect of adverse conditions is reduced. FREST achieved a state of the art on two public benchmarks (, ACDC and RobotCar) for SFDA to adverse conditions. Moreover, it shows superior generalization ability on unseen datasets."

FRDiff : Feature Reuse for Universal Training-free Acceleration of Diffusion Models

Junhyuk So, Jungwon Lee, Eunhyeok Park

展开摘要

"The substantial computational costs of diffusion models, especially due to the repeated denoising steps necessary for high-quality image generation, present a major obstacle to their widespread adoption. While several studies have attempted to address this issue by reducing the number of score function evaluations (NFE) using advanced ODE solvers without fine-tuning, the decreased number of denoising iterations misses the opportunity to update fine details, resulting in noticeable quality degradation. In our work, we introduce an advanced acceleration technique that leverages the temporal redundancy inherent in diffusion models. Reusing feature maps with high temporal similarity opens up a new opportunity to save computation resources without compromising output quality. To realize the practical benefits of this intuition, we conduct an extensive analysis and propose a novel method, FRDiff. FRDiff is designed to harness the advantages of both reduced NFE and feature reuse, achieving a Pareto frontier that balances fidelity and latency trade-offs in various generative tasks."

展开摘要

"Adversarial attacks on point clouds play a vital role in assessing and enhancing the adversarial robustness of 3D deep learning models. While employing a variety of geometric constraints, existing adversarial attack solutions often display unsatisfactory imperceptibility due to inadequate consideration of uniformity changes. In this paper, we propose , a novel framework designed to generate imperceptible adversarial point clouds by addressing the issue from a flux perspective. Specifically, during adversarial attacks, we assess the extent of uniformity alterations by calculating the flux of the local perturbation vector field. Upon identifying a high flux, which signals potential disruption in uniformity, the directions of the perturbation vectors are adjusted to minimize these alterations, thereby improving imperceptibility. Extensive experiments validate the effectiveness of in generating imperceptible adversarial point clouds, and its superiority to the state-of-the-art methods."

展开摘要

"The advancement in deep implicit modeling and articulated models has significantly enhanced the process of digitizing human figures in 3D from just a single image. While state-of-the-art methods have greatly improved geometric precision, the challenge of accurately inferring texture remains, particularly in obscured areas such as the back of a person in frontal-view images. This limitation in texture prediction largely stems from the scarcity of large-scale and diverse 3D datasets, whereas their 2D counterparts are abundant and easily accessible. To address this issue, our paper proposes leveraging extensive 2D fashion datasets to enhance both texture and shape prediction in 3D human digitization. We incorporate 2D priors from the fashion dataset to learn the occluded back view, refined with our proposed domain alignment strategy. We then fuse this information with the input image to obtain a fully textured mesh of the given person. Through extensive experimentation on standard 3D human benchmarks, we demonstrate the superior performance of our approach in terms of both texture and geometry. 展开摘要

"CLIP has achieved impressive zero-shot performance after pretraining on a large-scale dataset consisting of paired image-text data. Previous works have utilized CLIP by incorporating manually designed visual prompts like colored circles and blur masks into the images to guide the model’s attention, showing enhanced zero-shot performance in downstream tasks. Although these methods have achieved promising results, they inevitably alter the original information of the images, which can lead to failure in specific tasks. We propose a train-free method Foveal-Attention CLIP (FALIP), which adjusts the CLIP’s attention by inserting foveal attention masks into the multi-head self-attention module. We demonstrate FALIP effectively boosts CLIP zero-shot performance in tasks such as referring expressions comprehension, image classification, and 3D point cloud recognition. Experimental results further show that FALIP outperforms existing methods on most metrics and can augment current methods to enhance their performance. 展开摘要

"Although methods for estimating the pose of objects in indoor scenes have achieved great success, the pose estimation of underwater objects remains challenging due to difficulties brought by the complex underwater environment, such as degraded illumination, blurring, and the substantial cost of obtaining real annotations. In response, we introduce FAFA, a Frequency-Aware Flow-Aided self-supervised framework for 6D pose estimation of unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs). Essentially, we first train a frequency-aware flow-based pose estimator on synthetic data, where an FFT-based augmentation approach is proposed to facilitate the network in capturing domain-invariant features and target domain styles from a frequency perspective. Further, we perform self-supervised training by enforcing flow-aided multi-level consistencies to adapt it to the real-world underwater environment. Our framework relies solely on the 3D model and RGB images, alleviating the need for any real pose annotations or other-modality data like depths. We evaluate the effectiveness of FAFA on common underwater object pose benchmarks and showcase significant performance improvements compared to state-of-the-art methods. Code is available at github.com/tjy0703/FAFA."

展开摘要

"Existing 3D human object interaction (HOI) datasets and models simply align global descriptions with the long HOI sequence, while lacking a detailed understanding of intermediate states and the transitions between states. In this paper, we argue that fine-grained semantic alignment, which utilizes state-level descriptions, offers a promising paradigm for learning semantically rich HOI representations. To achieve this, we introduce Semantic-HOI, a new dataset comprising over 20K paired HOI states with fine-grained descriptions for each HOI state and the body movements that happen between two consecutive states. Leveraging the proposed dataset, we design three state-level HOI tasks to accomplish fine-grained semantic alignment within the HOI sequence. Additionally, we propose a unified model called , designed to leverage multimodal instructions and empower the Multi-modal Large Language Model to efficiently handle diverse HOI tasks. offers multiple advantages: (1) It employs a unified task formulation that supports the use of versatile multimodal inputs. (2) It maintains consistency in HOI across 2D, 3D, and linguistic spaces. (3) It utilizes fine-grained textual supervision for direct optimization, avoiding intricate modeling of HOI states. Extensive experiments reveal that effectively aligns HOI states with fine-grained semantic descriptions, adeptly tackling understanding, reasoning, generation, and reconstruction tasks."

展开摘要

"Generating realistic 3D scenes is challenging due to the complexity of room layouts and object geometries. We propose a sketch based knowledge enhanced diffusion architecture (SEK) for generating customized, diverse, and plausible 3D scenes. SEK conditions the denoising process with a hand-drawn sketch of the target scene and cues from an object relationship knowledge base. We first construct an external knowledge base containing object relationships and then leverage knowledge enhanced graph reasoning to assist our model in understanding hand-drawn sketches. A scene is represented as a combination of 3D objects and their relationships, and then incrementally diffused to reach a Gaussian distribution. We propose a 3D denoising scene transformer that learns to reverse the diffusion process, conditioned by a hand-drawn sketch along with knowledge cues, to regressively generate the scene including the 3D object instances as well as their layout. Experiments on the 3D-FRONT dataset show that our model improves FID, CKL by 17.41%, 37.18% in 3D scene generation and FID, KID by 19.12%, 20.06% in 3D scene completion compared to the nearest competitor DiffuScene."

展开摘要

"Facial expression and hand motions are necessary to express our emotions and interact with the world. Nevertheless, most of the 3D human avatars modeled from a casually captured video only support body motions without facial expressions and hand motions. In this work, we present ExAvatar, an expressive whole-body 3D human avatar learned from a short monocular video. We design ExAvatar as a combination of the whole-body parametric mesh model (SMPL-X) and 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS). The main challenges are 1) a limited diversity of facial expressions and poses in the video and 2) the absence of 3D observations, such as 3D scans and RGBD images. The limited diversity in the video makes animations with novel facial expressions and poses non-trivial. In addition, the absence of 3D observations could cause significant ambiguity in human parts that are not observed in the video, which can result in noticeable artifacts under novel motions. To address them, we introduce our hybrid representation of the mesh and 3D Gaussians. Our hybrid representation treats each 3D Gaussian as a vertex on the surface with pre-defined connectivity information (i.e., triangle faces) between them following the mesh topology of SMPL-X. It makes our ExAvatar animatable with novel facial expressions by driven by the facial expression space of SMPL-X. In addition, by using connectivity-based regularizers, we significantly reduce artifacts in novel facial expressions and poses."

Exploring Vulnerabilities in Spiking Neural Networks: Direct Adversarial Attacks on Raw Event Data

Yanmeng Yao, Xiaohan Zhao, Bin Gu

展开摘要

"In the field of computer vision, event-based Dynamic Vision Sensors (DVSs) have emerged as a significant complement to traditional pixel-based imaging due to their low power consumption and high temporal resolution. These sensors, particularly when combined with Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs), offer a promising direction for energy-efficient and fast-reacting vision systems. Typically, DVS data are converted into grid-based formats for processing with SNNs, with this transformation process often being an opaque step in the pipeline. As a result, the grid representation becomes an intermediate yet inaccessible stage during the implementation of attacks, highlighting the importance of attacking raw event data. Existing attack methodologies predominantly target grid-based representations, hindered by the complexity of three-valued optimization and the broad optimization space associated with raw event data. Our study addresses this gap by introducing a novel adversarial attack approach that directly targets raw event data. We tackle the inherent challenges of three-valued optimization and the need to preserve data sparsity through a strategic amalgamation of methods: 1) Treating Discrete Event Values as Probabilistic Samples: This allows for continuous optimization by considering discrete event values as probabilistic space samples. 2) Focusing on Specific Event Positions: We prioritize specific event positions that merge original data with additional target label data, enhancing attack precision. 3) Employing a Sparsity Norm: To retain the original data’s sparsity, a sparsity norm is utilized, ensuring the adversarial data’s comparability. Our empirical findings demonstrate the effectiveness of our combined approach, achieving noteworthy success in targeted attacks and highlighting vulnerabilities in models based on raw event data."

Exploring Reliable Matching with Phase Enhancement for Night-time Semantic Segmentation

展开摘要

"Semantic segmentation of night-time images holds significant importance in computer vision, particularly for applications like night environment perception in autonomous driving systems. However, existing methods tend to parse night-time images from a day-time perspective, leaving the inherent challenges in low-light conditions (such as compromised texture and deceiving matching errors) unexplored. To address these issues, we propose a novel end-to-end optimized approach, named NightFormer, tailored for night-time semantic segmentation, avoiding the conventional practice of forcibly fitting night-time images into day-time distributions. Specifically, we design a pixel-level texture enhancement module to acquire texture-aware features hierarchically with phase enhancement and amplified attention, and an object-level reliable matching module to realize accurate association matching via reliable attention in low-light environments. Extensive experimental results on various challenging benchmarks including NightCity, BDD and Cityscapes demonstrate that our proposed method performs favorably against state-of-the-art night-time semantic segmentation methods."

Exploring Pre-trained Text-to-Video Diffusion Models for Referring Video Object Segmentation

展开摘要

"In this paper, we explore the visual representations produced from a pre-trained text-to-video (T2V) diffusion model for video understanding tasks. We hypothesize that the latent representation learned from a pretrained generative T2V model encapsulates rich semantics and coherent temporal correspondences, thereby naturally facilitating video understanding. Our hypothesis is validated through the classic referring video object segmentation (R-VOS) task. We introduce a novel framework, termed “VD-IT”, tailored with dedicatedly designed components built upon a fixed pretrained T2V model. Specifically, VD-IT uses textual information as a conditional input, ensuring semantic consistency across time for precise temporal instance matching. It further incorporates image tokens as supplementary textual inputs, enriching the feature set to generate detailed and nuanced masks. Besides, instead of using the standard Gaussian noise, we propose to predict the video-specific noise with an extra noise prediction module, which can help preserve the feature fidelity and elevates segmentation quality. Through extensive experiments, we surprisingly observe that fixed generative T2V diffusion models, unlike commonly used video backbones (e.g., Video Swin Transformer) pretrained with discriminative image/video pre-tasks, exhibit better potential to maintain semantic alignment and temporal consistency. On existing standard benchmarks, our VD-IT achieves highly competitive results, surpassing many existing state-of-the-art methods. The code is available at https://github.com/buxiangzhiren/VD-IT."

展开摘要

"Recently, diffusion models have increasingly demonstrated their capabilities in vision understanding. By leveraging prompt-based learning to construct sentences, these models have shown proficiency in classification and visual grounding tasks. However, existing approaches primarily showcase their ability to perform sentence-level localization, leaving the potential for leveraging contextual information for phrase-level understanding largely unexplored. In this paper, we utilize Panoptic Narrative Grounding (PNG) as a proxy task to investigate this capability further. PNG aims to segment object instances mentioned by multiple noun phrases within a given narrative text. Specifically, we introduce the DiffPNG framework, a straightforward yet effective approach that fully capitalizes on the diffusion’s architecture for segmentation by decomposing the process into a sequence of localization, segmentation, and refinement steps. The framework initially identifies anchor points using cross-attention mechanisms and subsequently performs segmentation with self-attention to achieve zero-shot PNG. Moreover, we introduce a refinement module based on SAM to enhance the quality of the segmentation masks. Our extensive experiments on the PNG dataset demonstrate that DiffPNG achieves strong performance in the zero-shot PNG task setting, conclusively proving the diffusion model’s capability for context-aware, phrase-level understanding. 展开摘要

"Guided sampling serves as a widely used inference technique in diffusion models to trade off sample fidelity and diversity. In this work, we confirm that generative adversarial networks (GANs) can also benefit from guided sampling, not even requiring to pre-prepare a classifier (, classifier guidance) or learn an unconditional counterpart (, classifier-free guidance) as in diffusion models. Inspired by the organized latent space in GANs, we manage to estimate the data-condition joint distribution from a well-learned conditional generator simply through vector arithmetic. With such an easy implementation, our approach, termed , improves the FID score of a state-of-the-art GAN model pre-trained on ImageNet 64 × 64 from 8.87 to 6.06, barely increasing the inference time. We then propose a learning-based variant of our framework to better approximate the distribution of the entire dataset, further improving the FID score to 4.37. It is noteworthy that our sampling strategy sufficiently closes the gap between GANs and one-step diffusion models (, with FID 4.02) under comparable model size. Exploring Conditional Multi-Modal Prompts for Zero-shot HOI Detection

展开摘要

"Zero-shot Human-Object Interaction (HOI) detection has emerged as a frontier topic due to its capability to detect HOIs beyond a predefined set of categories. This task entails not only identifying the interactiveness of human-object pairs and localizing them but also recognizing both seen and unseen interaction categories. In this paper, we introduce a novel framework for zero-shot HOI detection using Conditional Multi-Modal Prompts, namely CMMP. This approach enhances the generalization of large foundation models, such as CLIP, when fine-tuned for HOI detection. Unlike traditional prompt-learning methods, we propose learning decoupled vision and language prompts for interactiveness-aware visual feature extraction and generalizable interaction classification, respectively. Specifically, we integrate prior knowledge of different granularity into conditional vision prompts, including an input-conditioned instance prior and a global spatial pattern prior. The former encourages the image encoder to treat instances belonging to seen or potentially unseen HOI concepts equally while the latter provides representative plausible spatial configuration of the human and object under interaction. Besides, we employ language-aware prompt learning with a consistency constraint to preserve the knowledge of the large foundation model to enable better generalization in the text branch. Extensive experiments demonstrate the efficacy of our detector with conditional multi-modal prompts, outperforming previous state-of-the-art on unseen classes of various zero-shot settings. Exploring Active Learning in Meta-Learning: Enhancing Context Set Labeling

Wonho Bae, Jing Wang, Danica J. Sutherland

展开摘要

"Most meta-learning methods assume that the (very small) context set used to establish a new task at test time is passively provided. In some settings, however, it is feasible to actively select which points to label; the potential gain from a careful choice is substantial, but the setting requires major differences from typical active learning setups. We clarify the ways in which active meta-learning can be used to label a context set, depending on which parts of the meta-learning process use active learning. Within this framework, we propose a natural algorithm based on fitting Gaussian mixtures for selecting which points to label; though simple, the algorithm also has theoretical motivation. The proposed algorithm outperforms state-of-the-art active learning methods when used with various meta-learning algorithms across several benchmark datasets."

Explore the Potential of CLIP for Training-Free Open Vocabulary Semantic Segmentation

Tong Shao, Zhuotao Tian, Hang Zhao, Jingyong Su

展开摘要

"CLIP, as a vision-language model, has significantly advanced Open-Vocabulary Semantic Segmentation (OVSS) with its zero-shot capabilities. Despite its success, its application to OVSS faces challenges due to its initial image-level alignment training, which affects its performance in tasks requiring detailed local context. Our study delves into the impact of CLIP’s [CLS] token on patch feature correlations, revealing a dominance of ”global” patches that hinders local feature discrimination. To overcome this, we propose CLIPtrase, a novel training-free semantic segmentation strategy that enhances local feature awareness through recalibrated self-correlation among patches. This approach demonstrates notable improvements in segmentation accuracy and the ability to maintain semantic coherence across objects. Experiments show that we are 22.3% ahead of CLIP on average on 9 segmentation benchmarks, outperforming existing state-of-the-art training-free methods. The code are made publicly available at https://github.com/leaves162/CLIPtrase"
