展开摘要

"Throughout the history of computer vision, while research has explored the integration of images (visual) and point clouds (geometric), many advancements in image and 3D object recognition have tended to process these modalities separately. We aim to bridge this divide by integrating images and point clouds on a unified transformer model. This approach integrates the modality-specific properties of images and point clouds and achieves fundamental downstream tasks in image and 3D object recognition on a unified transformer model by learning visual-geometric representations. In this work, we introduce Formula-Supervised Visual-Geometric Pre-training (FSVGP), a novel synthetic pre-training method that automatically generates aligned synthetic images and point clouds from mathematical formulas. Through cross-modality supervision, we enable supervised pre-training between visual and geometric modalities. FSVGP also reduces reliance on real data collection, cross-modality alignment, and human annotation. Our experimental results show that FSVGP pre-trains more effectively than VisualAtom and PC-FractalDB across six tasks: image and 3D object classification, detection, and segmentation. These achievements demonstrate FSVGP’s superior generalization in image and 3D object recognition and underscore the potential of synthetic pre-training in visual-geometric representation learning. Forget More to Learn More: Domain-specific Feature Unlearning for Semi-supervised and Unsupervised Domain Adaptation

Hritam Basak, Zhaozheng Yin

展开摘要

"Semi-supervised Domain Adaptation (SSDA) encompasses the process of adapting representations acquired from the source domain to a new target domain, utilizing a limited number of labeled samples in conjunction with an abundance of unlabeled data from the target domain. Simple aggregation of domain adaptation (DA) and semi-supervised learning (SSL) falls short of optimal performance due to two primary challenges: (1) skewed training data distribution favoring the source representation learning, and (2) the persistence of superfluous domain-specific features, hindering effective domain-agnostic (i.e., task-specific) feature extraction. In pursuit of greater generalizability and robustness, we present an SSDA framework with a new episodic learning strategy: “learn, forget, then learn more”. First, we train two encoder-classifier pairs, one for the source and the other for the target domain, aiming to learn domain-specific features. This involves minimizing classification loss for in-domain images and maximizing uncertainty loss for out-of-domain images. Subsequently, we transform the images into a new space, strategically unlearning (forgetting) the domain-specific representations while preserving their structural similarity to the originals. This proactive removal of domain-specific attributes is complemented by learning more domain-agnostic features using a Gaussian-guided latent alignment (GLA) strategy that uses a prior distribution to align domain-agnostic source and target representations. The proposed SSDA framework can be further extended to unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA). Evaluation across two domain adaptive image classification tasks reveals our method’s superiority over state-of-the-art (SoTA) methods in both SSDA and UDA scenarios. Code is available at: GitHub."

展开摘要

"Synthesizing realistic 3D indoor scenes is a challenging task that traditionally relies on manual arrangement and annotation by expert designers. Recent advances in autoregressive models have automated this process, but they often lack semantic understanding of the relationships and hierarchies present in real-world scenes, yielding limited performance. In this paper, we propose , a framework that formulates indoor scene synthesis as an order-aware sequential learning problem. organizes the inherently unordered collection of scene objects into structured, ordered hierarchical scene trees and forests. By employing a clustering-based algorithm and a breadth-first traversal, derives meaningful orderings and utilizes a transformer to generate realistic 3D scenes autoregressively. Experimental results on standard benchmarks demonstrate ’s superiority in synthesizing more realistic scenes compared to top-performing baselines, with significant improvements in FID and KL scores. Our additional experiments for downstream tasks and ablation studies also confirm the importance of incorporating order as a prior in 3D scene generation."

Forecasting Future Videos from Novel Views via Disentangled 3D Scene Representation

Sudhir Yarram, Junsong Yuan

展开摘要

"Video extrapolation in space and time (VEST) enables viewers to forecast a 3D scene into the future and view it from novel viewpoints. Recent methods propose to learn an entangled representation, aiming to model layered scene geometry, motion forecasting and novel view synthesis together, while assuming simplified affine motion and homography-based warping at each scene layer, leading to inaccurate video extrapolation. Instead of entangled scene representation and rendering, our approach chooses to disentangle scene geometry from scene motion, via lifting the 2D scene to 3D point clouds, which enables high quality rendering of future videos from novel views. To model future 3D scene motion, we propose a disentangled two-stage approach that initially forecasts ego-motion and subsequently the residual motion of dynamic objects (e.g., cars, people). This approach ensures more precise motion predictions by reducing inaccuracies from entanglement of ego-motion with dynamic object motion, where better ego-motion forecasting could significantly enhance the visual outcomes. Extensive experimental analysis on two urban scene datasets demonstrate superior performance of our proposed method in comparison to strong baselines."

展开摘要

"A novel algorithm for face obfuscation, called Forbes, which aims to obfuscate facial appearance recognizable by humans but preserve the identity and attributes decipherable by machines, is proposed in this paper. Forbes first applies multiple obfuscating transformations with random parameters to an image to remove the identity information distinguishable by humans. Then, it optimizes the parameters to make the transformed image decipherable by machines based on the backpropagation refinement scheme. Finally, it renders an obfuscated image by applying the transformations with the optimized parameters. Experimental results on various datasets demonstrate that Forbes achieves both human indecipherability and machine decipherability excellently. The source codes are available at https://github.com/mcljtkim/Forbes."

展开摘要

"Recently, the application of modern diffusion-based text-to-image generation models for creating artistic fonts, traditionally the domain of professional designers, has garnered significant interest. Diverging from the majority of existing studies that concentrate on generating artistic typography, our research aims to tackle a novel and more demanding challenge: the generation of text effects for multilingual fonts. This task essentially requires generating coherent and consistent visual content within the confines of a font-shaped canvas, as opposed to a traditional rectangular canvas. To address this task, we introduce a novel shape-adaptive diffusion model capable of interpreting the given shape and strategically planning pixel distributions within the irregular canvas. To achieve this, we curate a high-quality shape-adaptive image-text dataset and incorporate the segmentation mask as a visual condition to steer the image generation process within the irregular-canvas. This approach enables the traditionally rectangle canvas-based diffusion model to produce the desired concepts in accordance with the provided geometric shapes. Second, to maintain consistency across multiple letters, we also present a training-free, shape-adaptive effect transfer method for transferring textures from a generated reference letter to others. The key insights are building a font effect noise prior and propagating the font effect information in a concatenated latent space. The efficacy of our system is confirmed through user preference studies, which show a marked preference (78% win-rates on aesthetics) for our system even when compared to the latest unrivaled commercial product, Adobe Firefly1 . 1 https://firefly.adobe.com/generate/font-styles"

展开摘要

"Video Anomaly Detection (VAD) is crucial for applications such as security surveillance and autonomous driving. However, existing VAD methods provide little rationale behind detection, hindering public trust in real-world deployments. In this paper, we approach VAD with a reasoning framework. Although Large Language Models (LLMs) have shown revolutionary reasoning ability, we find that their direct use falls short of VAD. Specifically, the implicit knowledge pre-trained in LLMs focuses on general context and thus may not apply to every specific real-world VAD scenario, leading to inflexibility and inaccuracy. To address this, we propose , a novel rule-based reasoning framework for VAD with LLMs. comprises two main stages: induction and deduction. In the induction stage, the LLM is fed with few-shot normal reference samples and then summarizes these normal patterns to induce a set of rules for detecting anomalies. The deduction stage follows the induced rules to spot anomalous frames in test videos. Additionally, we design rule aggregation, perception smoothing, and robust reasoning strategies to further enhance ’s robustness. is the first reasoning approach for the one-class VAD task, which requires only few-normal-shot prompting without the need for full-shot training, thereby enabling fast adaption to various VAD scenarios. Comprehensive experiments across four VAD benchmarks demonstrate ’s state-of-the-art detection performance and reasoning ability. is open-source and available at: https://github.com/ Yuchen413/AnomalyRuler"

展开摘要

"Detecting objects seamlessly blended into their surroundings represents a complex task for both human cognitive capabilities and advanced artificial intelligence algorithms. Currently, the majority of methodologies for detecting camouflaged objects mainly focus on utilizing discriminative models with various unique designs. However, it has been observed that generative models, such as Stable Diffusion, possess stronger capabilities for understanding various objects in complex environments; Yet their potential for the cognition and detection of camouflaged objects has not been extensively explored. In this study, we present a novel denoising diffusion model, namely FocusDiffuser, to investigate how generative models can enhance the detection and interpretation of camouflaged objects. We believe that the secret to spotting camouflaged objects lies in catching the subtle nuances in details. Consequently, our FocusDiffuser innovatively integrates specialized enhancements, notably the Boundary-Driven LookUp (BDLU) module and Cyclic Positioning (CP) module, to elevate standard diffusion models, significantly boosting the detail-oriented analytical capabilities. Our experiments demonstrate that FocusDiffuser, from a generative perspective, effectively addresses the challenge of camouflaged object detection, surpassing leading models on benchmarks like CAMO, COD10K and NC4K. 展开摘要

"Flowed time of flight radiance fields () is a method to correct for motion artifacts in continuous-wave time of flight imaging (C-ToF). As C-ToF cameras must capture multiple exposures over time to derive depth, any moving object will exhibit depth errors. We formulate an optimization problem to reconstruct the raw frames captured by the camera via an underlying 4D volumetric scene and a physically-based differentiable C-ToF simulator. With weak optical flow supervision, we can infer a 3D volume with scene flow that explains the raw captures, even though any particular time instant does not provide sufficient constraints upon the depth or motion. On synthetic sequences, we find that our approach reduces depth errors on dynamic objects by up to 20× compared to C-ToF, particularly for axial motions and large disparities (≥ 25 pixels) between raw frames. On real-world sequences, we see qualitatively similar gains with artifacts resolved on falling pillows and swinging baseball bats. All experiments were performed by university authors; CR’s role was as an advisor."

FlowCon: Out-of-Distribution Detection using Flow-based Contrastive Learning

展开摘要

"Identifying Out-of-distribution (OOD) data is becoming increasingly critical as the real-world applications of deep learning methods expand. Post-hoc methods modify softmax scores fine-tuned on outlier data or leverage intermediate feature layers to identify distinctive patterns between In-Distribution (ID) and OOD samples. Other methods focus on employing diverse OOD samples to learn discrepancies between ID and OOD. These techniques, however, are typically dependent on the quality of the outlier samples assumed. Density-based methods explicitly model class-conditioned distributions but this requires long training time or retraining the classifier. To tackle these issues, we introduce FlowCon, a new density-based OOD detection technique. Our main innovation lies in efficiently combining the properties of normalizing flow with supervised contrastive learning, ensuring robust representation learning with tractable density estimation. Empirical evaluation shows the enhanced performance of our method across common vision datasets such as CIFAR-10 and CIFAR-100 pretrained on ResNet18 and WideResNet classifiers. We also perform quantitative analysis using likelihood plots and qualitative visualization using UMAP embeddings and demonstrate the robustness of the proposed method under various OOD contexts. "Weakly-Supervised Group Activity Recognition (WSGAR) aims to understand the activity performed together by a group of individuals with the video-level label and without actor-level labels. We propose Flow-Assisted Motion Learning Network () for WSGAR, which consists of the motion-aware actor encoder to extract actor features and the two-pathways relation module to infer the interaction among actors and their activity. leverages an additional optical flow modality in the training stage to enhance its motion awareness when finding locally active actors. The first pathway of the relation module, the actor-centric path, initially captures the temporal dynamics of individual actors and then constructs inter-actor relationships. In parallel, the group-centric path starts by building spatial connections between actors within the same timeframe and then captures simultaneous spatio-temporal dynamics among them. We demonstrate that achieves new state-of-the-art WSGAR results on two benchmarks, including a 2.8%p higher MPCA score on the NBA dataset. Importantly, we use the optical flow modality only for training and not for inference."

展开摘要

"Long-tailed semi-supervised learning (LTSSL) represents a practical scenario for semi-supervised applications, challenged by skewed labeled distributions that bias classifiers. This problem is often aggravated by discrepancies between labeled and unlabeled class distributions, leading to biased pseudo-labels, neglect of rare classes, and poorly calibrated probabilities. To address these issues, we introduce Flexible Distribution Alignment (FlexDA), a novel adaptive logit-adjusted loss framework designed to dynamically estimate and align predictions with the actual distribution of unlabeled data and achieve a balanced classifier by the end of training. FlexDA is further enhanced by a distillation-based consistency loss, promoting fair data usage across classes and effectively leveraging underconfident samples. This method, encapsulated in ADELLO (Align and Distill Everything All at Once), proves robust against label shift, significantly improves model calibration in LTSSL contexts, and surpasses previous state-of-of-art approaches across multiple benchmarks, including CIFAR100-LT, STL10-LT, and ImageNet127, addressing class imbalance challenges in semi-supervised learning. FlexiEdit: Frequency-Aware Latent Refinement for Enhanced Non-Rigid Editing

展开摘要

"Current image editing methods primarily utilize DDIM Inversion, employing a two-branch diffusion approach to preserve the attributes and layout of the original image. However, these methods encounter challenges with non-rigid edits, which involve altering the image’s layout or structure. Our comprehensive analysis reveals that the high-frequency components of DDIM latent, crucial for retaining the original image’s key features and layout, significantly contribute to these limitations. Addressing this, we introduce FlexiEdit, which enhances fidelity to input text prompts by refining DDIM latent, by reducing high-frequency components in targeted editing areas. FlexiEdit comprises two key components: (1) Latent Refinement, which modifies DDIM latent to better accommodate layout adjustments, and (2) Edit Fidelity Enhancement via Re-inversion, aimed at ensuring the edits more accurately reflect the input text prompts. Our approach represents notable progress in image editing, particularly in performing complex non-rigid edits, showcasing its enhanced capability through comparative experiments."

展开摘要

"Current high-resolution vision-language models encode images as high-resolution image tokens and exhaustively take all these tokens to compute attention, which significantly increases the computational cost. To address this problem, we propose , a flexible attention mechanism for efficient high-resolution vision-language models. Specifically, a high-resolution image is encoded both as high-resolution tokens and low-resolution tokens, where only the low-resolution tokens and a few selected high-resolution tokens are utilized to calculate the attention map, which greatly shrinks the computational cost. The high-resolution tokens are selected via a high-resolution selection module which could retrieve tokens of relevant regions based on an input attention map. The selected high-resolution tokens are then concatenated to the low-resolution tokens and text tokens, and input to a hierarchical self-attention layer which produces an attention map that could be used for the next-step high-resolution token selection. The hierarchical self-attention process and high-resolution token selection process are performed iteratively for each attention layer. Experiments on multimodal benchmarks prove that our outperforms existing high-resolution VLMs (e.g., relatively ∼9% in V* Bench, ∼7% in TextVQA), while also significantly reducing the computational cost by nearly 40%.1 1 Project page: https://vis-www.cs.umass.edu/flexattention"

FlashSplat: 2D to 3D Gaussian Splatting Segmentation Solved Optimally

Qiuhong Shen, Xingyi Yang, Xinchao Wang

展开摘要

"This study addresses the challenge of accurately segmenting 3D Gaussian Splatting (3D-GS) from 2D masks. Conventional methods often rely on iterative gradient descent to assign each Gaussian a unique label, leading to lengthy optimization and sub-optimal solutions. Instead, we propose a straightforward yet globally optimal solver for 3D-GS segmentation. The core insight of our method is that, with a reconstructed 3D-GS scene , the rendering of the 2D masks is essentially a linear function with respect to the labels of each Gaussian. As such, the optimal label assignment can be solved via linear programming in closed form. This solution capitalizes on the alpha blending characteristic of the splatting process for single step optimization. By incorporating the background bias in our objective function, our method shows superior robustness in 3D segmentation against noises. Remarkably, our optimization completes within 30 seconds, about 50× faster than the best existing methods. Extensive experiments demonstrate our method’s efficiency and robustness in segmenting various scenes, and its superior performance in downstream tasks such as object removal and inpainting. Demos and code will be available at https://github.com/florinshen/FlashSplat."

"We introduce a simple yet effective approach for separating transmitted and reflected light. Our key insight is that the powerful novel view synthesis capabilities provided by modern inverse rendering methods (e.g., 3D Gaussian splatting) allow one to perform flash/no-flash reflection separation using unpaired measurements—this relaxation dramatically simplifies image acquisition over conventional paired flash/no-flash reflection separation methods. Through extensive real-world experiments, we demonstrate our method, Flash-Splat, accurately reconstructs both transmitted and reflected scenes in 3D. Our method outperforms existing 3D reflection separation methods, which do not leverage illumination control, by a large margin."

Fisher Calibration for Backdoor-Robust Heterogeneous Federated Learning

Wenke Huang, Mang Ye, Zekun Shi, Bo Du, Dacheng Tao

展开摘要

"Federated learning presents massive potential for privacy-friendly vision task collaboration. However, the federated visual performance is deeply affected by backdoor attacks, where malicious clients optimize on triggered samples to mislead the global model into targeted mispredictions. Existing backdoor defensive solutions are normally based on two assumptions: data homogeneity and minority malicious ratio for the elaborate client-wise defensive rules. To address existing limitations, we argue that heterogeneous clients and backdoor attackers both bring divergent optimization directions and thus it is hard to discriminate them precisely. In this paper, we argue that parameters appear in different important degrees towards distinct distribution and instead consider meaningful and meaningless parameters for the ideal target distribution. We propose the Self-Driven Fisher Calibration (SDFC), which utilizes the Fisher Information to calculate the parameter importance degree for the local agnostic and global validation distribution and regulate those elements with large important differences. Furthermore, we allocate high aggregation weight for clients with relatively small overall parameter differences, which encourages clients with close local distribution to the global distribution, to contribute more to the federation. This endows SDFC to handle backdoor attackers in heterogeneous federated learning. Various vision task performances demonstrate the effectiveness of SDFC. The codes are released at https://github.com/WenkeHuang/SDFC."

FipTR: A Simple yet Effective Transformer Framework for Future Instance Prediction in Autonomous Driving

展开摘要

"The future instance prediction from a Bird’s Eye View(BEV) perspective is a vital component in autonomous driving, which involves future instance segmentation and instance motion prediction. Existing methods usually rely on a redundant and complex pipeline which requires multiple auxiliary outputs and post-processing procedures. Moreover, estimated errors on each of the auxiliary predictions will lead to degradation of the prediction performance. In this paper, we propose a simple yet effective fully end-to-end framework named Future Instance Prediction Transformer(FipTR), which views the task as BEV instance segmentation and prediction for future frames. We propose to adopt instance queries representing specific traffic participants to directly estimate the corresponding future occupied masks, and thus get rid of complex post-processing procedures. Besides, we devise a flow-aware BEV predictor for future BEV feature prediction composed of a flow-aware deformable attention that takes backward flow guiding the offset sampling. A novel future instance matching strategy is also proposed to further improve the temporal coherence. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superiority of FipTR and its effectiveness under different temporal BEV encoders. The code is available at https://github.com/TabGuigui/FipTR."

FinePseudo: Improving Pseudo-Labelling through Temporal-Alignablity for Semi-Supervised Fine-Grained Action Recognition

Ishan Rajendrakumar Dave, Mamshad Nayeem Rizve, Mubarak Shah

展开摘要

"Real-life applications of action recognition often require a fine-grained understanding of subtle movements, e.g., in sports analytics, user interactions in AR/VR, and surgical videos. Although fine-grained actions are more costly to annotate, existing semi-supervised action recognition has mainly focused on coarse-grained action recognition. Since fine-grained actions are more challenging due to the absence of scene bias, classifying these actions requires an understanding of action-phases. Hence, existing coarse-grained semi-supervised methods do not work effectively. In this work, we for the first time thoroughly investigate semi-supervised fine-grained action recognition (FGAR). We observe that alignment distances like dynamic time warping (DTW) provide a suitable action-phase-aware measure for comparing fine-grained actions, a concept previously unexploited in FGAR. However, since regular DTW distance is pairwise and assumes strict alignment between pairs, it is not directly suitable for classifying fine-grained actions. To utilize such alignment distances in a limited-label setting, we propose an Alignability-Verification-based Metric learning technique to effectively discriminate between fine-grained action pairs. Our learnable alignability score provides a better phase-aware measure, which we use to refine the pseudo-labels of the primary video encoder. Our collaborative pseudo-labeling-based framework ‘FinePseudo’ significantly outperforms prior methods on four fine-grained action recognition datasets: Diving48, FineGym99, FineGym288, and FineDiving, and shows improvement on existing coarse-grained datasets: Kinetics400 and Something-SomethingV2. We also demonstrate the robustness of our collaborative pseudo-labeling in handling novel unlabeled classes in open-world semi-supervised setups."

展开摘要

"Recent progress in large-scale pre-training has led to the development of advanced vision-language models (VLMs) with remarkable proficiency in comprehending and generating multimodal content. Despite the impressive ability to perform complex reasoning for VLMs, current models often struggle to effectively and precisely capture the compositional information on both the image and text sides. To address this, we propose , a new aspect-based fine-grained text and image matching benchmark, focusing on text and image mismatch detection and correction. This benchmark introduces a novel task for boosting and evaluating the VLMs’ compositionality for aspect-based fine-grained text and image matching. In this task, models are required to identify mismatched aspect phrases within a caption, determine the aspect’s class, and propose corrections for an image-text pair that may contain between 0 and 3 mismatches. To evaluate the models’ performance on this new task, we propose a new evaluation metric named ITM-IoU for which our experiments show a high correlation to human evaluation. In addition, we also provide a comprehensive experimental analysis of existing mainstream VLMs, including fully supervised learning and in-context learning settings. We have found that models trained on demonstrate enhanced proficiency in detecting fine-grained text and image mismatches. Moreover, models (e.g., GPT-4V, Gemini Pro Vision) with strong abilities to perform multimodal in-context learning are not as skilled at fine-grained compositional image and text matching analysis. With , we are able to build a system for text-to-image generation hallucination detection and correction. Resources are available at https://hanghuacs.github.io/finematch/."
