Label-anticipated Event Disentanglement for Audio-Visual Video Parsing

Jinxing Zhou, Dan Guo, yuxin mao, Yiran Zhong, Xiaojun Chang, Meng Wang

展开摘要

"Audio-Visual Video Parsing (AVVP) task aims to detect and temporally locate events within audio and visual modalities. Multiple events can overlap in the timeline, making identification challenging. While traditional methods usually focus on improving the early audio-visual encoders to embed more effective features, the decoding phase – crucial for final event classification, often receives less attention. We aim to advance the decoding phase and improve its interpretability. Specifically, we introduce a new decoding paradigm, label semantic-based projection (LEAP), that employs labels texts of event categories, each bearing distinct and explicit semantics, for parsing potentially overlapping events. LEAP works by iteratively projecting encoded latent features of audio/visual segments onto semantically independent label embeddings. This process, enriched by modeling cross-modal (audio/visual-label) interactions, gradually disentangles event semantics within video segments to refine relevant label embeddings, guaranteeing a more discriminative and interpretable decoding process. To facilitate the LEAP paradigm, we propose a semantic-aware optimization strategy, which includes a novel audio-visual semantic similarity loss function. This function leverages the Intersection over Union of audio and visual events (EIoU) as a novel metric to calibrate audio-visual similarities at the feature level, accommodating the varied event densities across modalities. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superiority of our method, achieving new state-of-the-art performance for AVVP and also enhancing the relevant audio-visual event localization task.: Corresponding authors ({guodan,wangmeng}@hfut.edu.cn)"

LaWa: Using Latent Space for In-Generation Image Watermarking

展开摘要

"With generative models producing high quality images that are indistinguishable from real ones, there is growing concern regarding the malicious usage of AI-generated images. Imperceptible image watermarking is one viable solution towards such concerns. Prior watermarking methods map the image to a latent space for adding the watermark. Moreover, Latent Diffusion Models (LDM) generate the image in the latent space of a pre-trained autoencoder. We argue that this latent space can be used to integrate watermarking into the generation process. To this end, we present LaWa, an in-generation image watermarking method designed for LDMs. By using coarse-to-fine watermark embedding modules, LaWa modifies the latent space of pre-trained autoencoders and achieves high robustness against a wide range of image transformations while preserving perceptual quality of the image. We show that LaWa can also be used as a general image watermarking method. Through extensive experiments, we demonstrate that LaWa outperforms previous works in perceptual quality, robustness against attacks, and computational complexity, while having very low false positive rate. 展开摘要

"Radiance field methods have achieved photorealistic novel view synthesis and geometry reconstruction. But they are mostly applied in per-scene optimization or small-baseline settings. While several recent works investigate feed-forward reconstruction with large baselines by utilizing transformers, they all operate with a standard global attention mechanism and hence ignore the local nature of 3D reconstruction. We propose a method that unifies local and global reasoning in transformer layers, resulting in improved quality and faster convergence. Our model represents scenes as Gaussian Volumes and combines this with an image encoder and Group Attention Layers for efficient feed-forward reconstruction. Experimental results demonstrate that our model, trained for two days on four GPUs, demonstrates high fidelity in reconstructing 360◦ radiance fields, and robustness to zero-shot and out-of-domain testing."

展开摘要

"While RGBD-based methods for category-level object pose estimation hold promise, their reliance on depth data limits their applicability in diverse scenarios. In response, recent efforts have turned to RGB-based methods; however, they face significant challenges stemming from the absence of depth information. On one hand, the lack of depth exacerbates the difficulty in handling intra-class shape variation, resulting in increased uncertainty in shape predictions. On the other hand, RGB-only inputs introduce inherent scale ambiguity, rendering the estimation of object size and translation an ill-posed problem. To tackle these challenges, we propose LaPose, a novel framework that models the object shape as the Laplacian mixture model for Pose estimation. By representing each point as a probabilistic distribution, we explicitly quantify the shape uncertainty. LaPose leverages both a generalized 3D information stream and a specialized feature stream to independently predict the Laplacian distribution for each point, capturing different aspects of object geometry. These two distributions are then integrated as a Laplacian mixture model to establish the 2D-3D correspondences, which are utilized to solve the pose via the PnP module. In order to mitigate scale ambiguity, we introduce a scale-agnostic representation for object size and translation, enhancing training efficiency and overall robustness. Extensive experiments on the NOCS datasets validate the effectiveness of LaPose, yielding state-of-the-art performance in RGB-based category-level object pose estimation. 展开摘要

"Existing methods enhance open-vocabulary object detection by leveraging the robust open-vocabulary recognition capabilities of Vision-Language Models (VLMs), such as CLIP. However, two main challenges emerge: (1) A deficiency in concept representation, where the category names in CLIP’s text space lack textual and visual knowledge. (2) An overfitting tendency towards base categories, with the open vocabulary knowledge biased towards base categories during the transfer from VLMs to detectors. To address these challenges, we propose the Language Model Instruction (LaMI) strategy, which leverages the relationships between visual concepts and applies them within a simple yet effective DETR-like detector, termed LaMI-DETR. LaMI utilizes GPT to construct visual concepts and employs T5 to investigate visual similarities across categories. These inter-category relationships refine concept representation and avoid overfitting to base categories. Comprehensive experiments validate our approach’s superior performance over existing methods in the same rigorous setting without reliance on external training resources. LaMI-DETR achieves a rare box AP of 43.4 on OV-LVIS, surpassing the previous best by 7.8 rare box AP."

展开摘要

"Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) has been crucial across various domains, including autonomous driving, mobile robotics, and mixed reality. Dense visual SLAM, leveraging RGB-D camera systems, offers advantages but faces challenges in achieving real-time performance, robustness, and scalability for large-scale scenes. Recent approaches utilizing neural implicit scene representations show promise but suffer from high computational costs and memory requirements. ESLAM introduced a plane-based tensor decomposition but still struggled with memory growth. Addressing these challenges, we propose a more efficient visual SLAM model, called LRSLAM, utilizing low-rank tensor decomposition methods. Our approach, leveraging the Six-axis and CP decompositions, achieves better convergence rates, memory efficiency, and reconstruction/localization quality than existing state-of-the-art approaches. Evaluation across diverse indoor RGB-D datasets demonstrates LRSLAM’s superior performance in terms of parameter efficiency, processing time, and accuracy, retaining reconstruction and localization quality. Our code will be publicly available upon publication."

展开摘要

"Vision transformers (ViTs) have emerged as a promising alternative to convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for various image analysis tasks, offering comparable or superior performance. However, one significant drawback of ViTs is their resource-intensive nature, leading to increased memory footprint, computation complexity, and power consumption. To democratize this high-performance technology and make it more environmentally friendly, it is essential to compress ViT models, reducing their resource requirements while maintaining high performance. In this paper, we introduce a new block-structured pruning to address the resource-intensive issue for ViTs, offering a balanced trade-off between accuracy and hardware acceleration. Unlike unstructured pruning or channel-wise structured pruning, block pruning leverages the block-wise structure of linear layers, resulting in more efficient matrix multiplications. To optimize this pruning scheme, our paper proposes a novel hardware-aware learning objective that simultaneously maximizes speedup and minimizes power consumption during inference, tailored to the block sparsity structure. This objective eliminates the need for empirical look-up tables and focuses solely on reducing parametrized layer connections. Moreover, our paper provides a lightweight algorithm to achieve post-training pruning for ViTs, utilizing second-order Taylor approximation and empirical optimization to solve the proposed hardware-aware objective. Extensive experiments on ImageNet are conducted across various ViT architectures, including DeiT-B and DeiT-S, demonstrating competitive performance with other pruning methods and achieving a remarkable balance between accuracy preservation and power savings. Especially, we achieve up to 3.93× and 1.79× speedups on dedicated hardware and GPUs respectively for DeiT-B, and also observe an inference power reduction by 1.4× on real-world GPUs. Code will be released soon."

LNL+K: Enhancing Learning with Noisy Labels Through Noise Source Knowledge Integration

Siqi Wang, Bryan Plummer

展开摘要

"Learning with noisy labels (LNL) aims to train a high-performing model using a noisy dataset. We observe that noise for a given class often comes from a limited set of categories, yet many LNL methods overlook this. For example, an image mislabeled as a cheetah is more likely a leopard than a hippopotamus due to its visual similarity. Thus, we explore Learning with Noisy Labels with noise source Knowledge integration (LNL+K), which leverages knowledge about likely source(s) of label noise that is often provided in a dataset’s meta-data. Integrating noise source knowledge boosts performance even in settings where LNL methods typically fail. For example, LNL+K methods are effective on datasets where noise represents the majority of samples, which breaks a critical premise of most methods developed for LNL. Our LNL+K methods can boost performance even when noise sources are estimated rather than extracted from meta-data. We provide several baseline LNL+K methods that integrate noise source knowledge into state-of-the-art LNL models that are evaluated across six diverse datasets and two types of noise, where we report gains of up to 23% compared to the unadapted methods. Critically, we show that LNL methods fail to generalize on some real-world datasets, even when adapted to integrate noise source knowledge, highlighting the importance of directly exploring LNL+K1 . 1 Code available: https://github.com/SunnySiqi/LNL_K"

"The field of neural rendering has witnessed significant progress with advancements in generative models and differentiable rendering techniques. Though 2D diffusion has achieved success, a unified 3D diffusion pipeline remains unsettled. This paper introduces a novel framework called to address this gap and enable fast, high-quality, and generic conditional 3D generation. Our approach harnesses a 3D-aware architecture and variational autoencoder (VAE) to encode the input image(s) into a structured, compact, and 3D latent space. The latent is decoded by a transformer-based decoder into a high-capacity 3D neural field. Through training a diffusion model on this 3D-aware latent space, our method achieves superior performance on Objaverse, ShapeNet and FFHQ for conditional 3D generation. Moreover, it surpasses existing 3D diffusion methods in terms of inference speed, requiring no per-instance optimization. 展开摘要

"While recent low-light image enhancement (LLIE) methods have made significant advancements, they still face challenges in terms of low visual quality and weak generalization ability when applied to complex scenarios. To address these issues, we propose a semi-supervised method based on latent mean-teacher and Gaussian process, named LMT-GP. We first design a latent mean-teacher framework that integrates both labeled and unlabeled data, as well as their latent vectors, into model training. Meanwhile, we use a mean-teacher-assisted Gaussian process learning strategy to establish a connection between the latent and pseudo-latent vectors obtained from the labeled and unlabeled data. To guide the learning process, we utilize an assisted Gaussian process regression (GPR) loss function. Furthermore, we design a pseudo-label adaptation module (PAM) to ensure the reliability of the network learning. To demonstrate our method’s generalization ability and effectiveness, we apply it to multiple LLIE datasets and high-level vision tasks. Experiment results demonstrate that our method achieves high generalization performance and image quality. The code is available at https://github.com/HFUT-CV/LMT-GP"

展开摘要

"Visual encoding constitutes the basis of large multimodal models (LMMs) in understanding the visual world. Conventional LMMs process images in fixed sizes and limited resolutions, while recent explorations in this direction are limited in adaptivity, efficiency, and even correctness. In this work, we first take GPT-4V and LLaVA 1.5 as representative examples and expose systematic flaws rooted in their visual encoding strategy. To address the challenges, we present LLaVA-UHD, a large multimodal model that can efficiently perceive images in any aspect ratio and high resolution. LLaVA-UHD includes three key components: (1) An image modularization strategy that divides native-resolution images into smaller variable-sized slices for efficient and extensible encoding, (2) a compression module that further condenses image tokens from visual encoders, and (3) a spatial schema to organize slice tokens for LLMs. Comprehensive experiments show that LLaVA-UHD outperforms established LMMs trained with 2-3 orders of magnitude more data on black8 benchmarks. Notably, our model built on LLaVA-1.5 336×336 supports 6 times larger (i.e., 672×1008) resolution images, and achieves 5.7 accuracy improvement on TextVQA."

"With the recent significant advancements in large multimodal models (LMMs), the importance of their grounding capability in visual chat is increasingly recognized. Despite recent efforts to enable LMMs to support grounding, their capabilities for grounding and chat are usually separate, and their chat performance drops dramatically when asked to ground. The problem is the lack of a dataset for grounded visual chat (GVC). Existing grounding datasets only contain short captions. To address this issue, we have created GVC data that allows for the combination of grounding and chat capabilities. To better evaluate the GVC capabilities, we have introduced a benchmark called . Additionally, we have proposed a model design that can support GVC and various types of visual prompts by connecting segmentation models with language models. Experimental results demonstrate that our model outperforms other LMMs on . LLaMA-VID: An Image is Worth 2 Tokens in Large Language Models

展开摘要

"In this work, we present a novel method to tackle the token generation challenge in Vision Language Models (VLMs) for video and image understanding, called LLaMA-VID. Current VLMs, while proficient in tasks like image captioning and visual question answering, face computational burdens when processing long videos due to the excessive visual tokens. LLaMA-VID addresses this issue by representing each frame with two distinct tokens, namely context token and content token. The context token encodes the overall image context based on user input, whereas the content token encapsulates visual cues in each frame. This dual-token strategy significantly reduces the overload of long videos while preserving critical information. Generally, LLaMA-VID empowers existing frameworks to support hour-long videos and pushes their upper limit with an extra context token. It is demonstrated to surpass previous methods on most of video- or image-based benchmarks. Code and models are available at https://github.com/dvlab-research/LLaMA-VID."

展开摘要

"Restoring ancient manuscripts fragments, such as those from Dunhuang, is crucial for preserving human historical culture. However, their worldwide dispersal and the shifts in cultural and historical contexts pose significant restoration challenges. Traditional archaeological efforts primarily focus on manually piecing major fragments together, yet the small and more intricate pieces remain largely unexplored, which is technically due to their irregular shapes, sparse textual content, and extensive combinatorial space for reassembly. In this paper, we formalize the task of restoring the ancient manuscript from fragments as a cardinality-constrained combinatorial optimization problem, and propose a framework named LLMCO4MR: (Multimodal) Large Language Model-aided Combinatorial Optimization Neural Networks for Ancient Manuscript Restoration. Specifically, LLMCO4MR encapsulates a neural combinatorial solver equipped with a differentiable optimal transport (OT) layer, to efficiently predict the Top-K likely mutual reassembly candidates. Multimodal Large Language Model (MLLM) is then adopted and prompted to yield pairwise matching confidence and relative directions for final restoration. Experiments on synthetic data and cases studies with real-world famous Dunhuang fragments demonstrate our approach’s practical potential in assisting archaeologists. Our method provides a novel perspective for ancient manuscript restoration."

展开摘要

"The distribution of subpopulations is an important property hidden within a dataset. Uncovering and analyzing the subpopulation distribution within datasets provides a comprehensive understanding of the datasets, standing as a powerful tool beneficial to various downstream tasks, including Dataset Subpopulation Organization, Subpopulation Shift, and Slice Discovery. Despite its importance, there has been no work that systematically explores the subpopulation distribution of datasets to our knowledge. To address the limitation and solve all the mentioned tasks in a unified way, we introduce a novel concept of subpopulation structures to represent, analyze, and utilize subpopulation distributions within datasets. To characterize the structures in an interpretable manner, we propose the Subpopulation Structure Discovery with Large Language Models (SSD-LLM) framework, which employs world knowledge and instruction-following capabilities of Large Language Models (LLMs) to linguistically analyze informative image captions and summarize the structures. Furthermore, we propose complete workflows to address downstream tasks, named Task-specific Tuning, showcasing the application of the discovered structure to a spectrum of subpopulation-related tasks, including dataset subpopulation organization, subpopulation shift, and slice discovery. With the help of SSD-LLM, we can structuralize the datasets into subpopulation-level automatically, achieve average +3.3% worst group accuracy gain compared to previous methods on subpopulation shift benchmark Waterbirds, Metashift and Nico++, and also identify more consistent slice topics with a higher model error rate of 3.95% on slice discovery task for ImageNet. 展开摘要

"Vision-and-Language Navigation (VLN) involves guiding an agent through indoor environments using human-provided textual instructions. Coarse-grained VLN, with short and high-level instructions, has gained popularity as it closely mirrors real-world scenarios. However, a significant challenge is these instructions are often too concise for agents to comprehend and act upon. Previous studies have explored allowing agents to seek assistance during navigation, but typically offer rigid support from pre-existing datasets or simulators. The advent of Large Language Models (LLMs) presents a novel avenue for aiding VLN agents. This paper introduces VLN-Copilot, a framework enabling agents to actively seek assistance when encountering confusion, with the LLM serving as a copilot to facilitate navigation. Our approach includes the introduction of a confusion score, quantifying the level of uncertainty in an agent’s action decisions, while the LLM offers real-time detailed guidance for navigation. Experimental results on two coarse-grained VLN datasets show the efficacy of our method."

"There has been tremendous progress in multimodal Large Language Models (LLMs). Recent works have extended these models to video input with promising instruction following capabilities. However, an important missing piece is temporal localization. These models cannot accurately answer the “When?” questions. We identify three key aspects that limit their temporal localization capabilities: (i) time representation, (ii) architecture, and (iii) data. We address these shortcomings by proposing Language Instructed Temporal-Localization Assistant () with the following features: (1) We introduce time tokens that encode timestamps relative to the video length to better represent time in videos. (2) We introduce SlowFast tokens in the architecture to capture temporal information at fine temporal resolution. (3) We emphasize temporal localization data for . In addition to leveraging existing video datasets with timestamps, we propose a new task, Reasoning Temporal Localization (RTL), along with the dataset, ActivityNet-RTL, for learning and evaluating this task. Reasoning temporal localization requires both the reasoning and temporal localization of Video LLMs. demonstrates strong performance on this challenging task, nearly doubling the temporal mean intersection-over-union (mIoU) of baselines.
