LayoutDETR: Detection Transformer Is a Good Multimodal Layout Designer

Ning Yu, Chia-chih Chen, Zeyuan Chen, Rui Meng, Gang Wu, Paul W Josel, Juan Carlos Niebles, Caiming Xiong, Ran Xu

展开摘要

"Graphic layout designs play an essential role in visual communication. Yet handcrafting layout designs is skill-demanding, time-consuming, and non-scalable to batch production. Generative models emerge to make design automation scalable but it remains non-trivial to produce designs that comply with designers’ multimodal desires, i.e., constrained by background images and driven by foreground content. We propose LayoutDETR that inherits the high quality and realism from generative modeling, while reformulating content-aware requirements as a detection problem: we learn to detect in a background image the reasonable locations, scales, and spatial relations for multimodal foreground elements in a layout. Our solution sets a new state-of-the-art performance for layout generation on public benchmarks and on our newly-curated ad banner dataset. We integrate our solution into a graphical system that facilitates user studies, and show that users prefer our designs over baselines by significant margins. Code, models, dataset, and demos are available at GitHub."

Layout-Corrector: Alleviating Layout Sticking Phenomenon in Discrete Diffusion Model

展开摘要

"Layout generation is a task to synthesize a harmonious layout with elements characterized by attributes such as category, position, and size. Human designers experiment with the placement and modification of elements to create aesthetic layouts, however, we observed that current discrete diffusion models (DDMs) struggle to correct inharmonious layouts after they have been generated. In this paper, we first provide novel insights into layout sticking phenomenon in DDMs and then propose a simple yet effective layout-assessment module Layout-Corrector, which works in conjunction with existing DDMs to address the layout sticking problem. We present a learning-based module capable of identifying inharmonious elements within layouts, considering overall layout harmony characterized by complex composition. During the generation process, Layout-Corrector evaluates the correctness of each token in the generated layout, reinitializing those with low scores to the ungenerated state. The DDM then uses the high-scored tokens as clues to regenerate the harmonized tokens. Layout-Corrector, tested on common benchmarks, consistently boosts layout-generation performance when in conjunction with various state-of-the-art DDMs. Furthermore, our extensive analysis demonstrates that the Layout-Corrector (1) successfully identifies erroneous tokens, (2) facilitates control over the fidelity-diversity trade-off, and (3) significantly mitigates the performance drop associated with fast sampling."

LayeredFlow: A Real-World Benchmark for Non-Lambertian Multi-Layer Optical Flow

Hongyu Wen, Erich Liang, Jia Deng

展开摘要

"Achieving 3D understanding of non-Lambertian objects is an important task with many useful applications, but most existing algorithms struggle to deal with such objects. One major obstacle towards progress in this field is the lack of holistic non-Lambertian benchmarks—most benchmarks have low scene and object diversity, and none provide multi-layer 3D annotations for objects occluded by transparent surfaces. In this paper, we introduce , a real world benchmark containing multi-layer ground truth annotation for optical flow of non-Lambertian objects. Compared to previous benchmarks, our benchmark exhibits greater scene and object diversity, with 150k high quality optical flow and stereo pairs taken over 185 indoor and outdoor scenes and 360 unique objects. Using as evaluation data, we propose a new task called multi-layer optical flow. To provide training data for this task, we introduce a large-scale densely-annotated synthetic dataset containing 60k images within 30 scenes tailored for non-Lambertian objects. Training on our synthetic dataset enables model to predict multi-layer optical flow, while fine-tuning existing optical flow methods on the dataset notably boosts their performance on non-Lambertian objects without compromising the performance on diffuse objects."

Layered Rendering Diffusion Model for Controllable Zero-Shot Image Synthesis

展开摘要

"This paper introduces innovative solutions to enhance spatial controllability in diffusion models reliant on text queries. We first introduce vision guidance as a foundational spatial cue within the perturbed distribution. This significantly refines the search space in a zero-shot paradigm to focus on the image sampling process adhering to the spatial layout conditions. To precisely control the spatial layouts of multiple visual concepts with the employment of vision guidance, we propose a universal framework, Layered Rendering Diff usion (LRDiff), which constructs an image-rendering process with multiple layers, each of which applies the vision guidance to instructively estimate the denoising direction for a single object. Such a layered rendering strategy effectively prevents issues like unintended conceptual blending or mismatches while allowing for more coherent and contextually accurate image synthesis. The proposed method offers a more efficient and accurate means of synthesising images that align with specific layout and contextual requirements. Through experiments, we demonstrate that our method outperforms existing techniques, both quantitatively and qualitatively, in two specific layout-to-image tasks: bounding box-to-image and instance mask-to-image. Furthermore, we extend the proposed framework to enable spatially controllable editing. The project page is available here."

展开摘要

"Despite the success of generating high-quality images given any text prompts by diffusion-based generative models, prior work directly generates the entire images, but cannot provide object-wise manipulation capability. To support wider real applications like professional graphic design and digital artistry, images are frequently created and manipulated in multiple layers to offer greater flexibility and control. In this paper, we propose a layer-collaborative diffusion model, named LayerDiff, specifically designed for text-guided, multi-layered, composable image synthesis. The composable image consists of a background layer, a set of foreground layers, and associated mask layers for each foreground element. To enable this, LayerDiff introduces a layer-based generation paradigm incorporating multiple layer-collaborative attention modules to capture inter-layer patterns. Specifically, an inter-layer attention module is designed to encourage information exchange and learning between layers, while a text-guided intra-layer attention module incorporates layer-specific prompts to direct the specific-content generation for each layer. A layer-specific prompt-enhanced module better captures detailed textual cues from the global prompt. Additionally, a self-mask guidance sampling strategy further unleashes the model’s ability to generate multi-layered images. We also present a pipeline that integrates existing perceptual and generative models to produce a large dataset of high-quality, text-prompted, multi-layered images. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our LayerDiff model can generate high-quality multi-layered images with performance comparable to conventional whole-image generation methods. Moreover, LayerDiff enables a broader range of layer-wise control applications."

展开摘要

"The transparent formulation of explanation methods is essential for elucidating the predictions of neural networks, which are typically black-box models. Layer-wise Relevance Propagation (LRP) is a well-established method that transparently traces the flow of a model’s prediction backward through its architecture by backpropagating relevance scores. However, the conventional LRP does not fully consider the existence of skip connections, and thus its application to the widely used ResNet architecture has not been thoroughly explored. In this study, we extend LRP to ResNet models by introducing Relevance Splitting at points where the output from a skip connection converges with that from a residual block. Our formulation guarantees the conservation property throughout the process, thereby preserving the integrity of the generated explanations. To evaluate the effectiveness of our approach, we conduct experiments on ImageNet and the Caltech-UCSD Birds-200-2011 dataset. Our method achieves superior performance to that of baseline methods on standard evaluation metrics such as the Insertion-Deletion score while maintaining its conservation property. We will release our code for further research at https://5ei74r0.github.io/ lrp-for-resnet.page/"

LatentEditor: Text Driven Local Editing of 3D Scenes

展开摘要

"While neural fields have made significant strides in view synthesis and scene reconstruction, editing them poses a formidable challenge due to their implicit encoding of geometry and texture information from multi-view inputs. In this paper, we introduce LatentEditor, an innovative framework designed to empower users with the ability to perform precise and locally controlled editing of neural fields using text prompts. Leveraging denoising diffusion models, we successfully embed real-world scenes into the latent space, resulting in a faster and more adaptable NeRF backbone for editing compared to traditional methods. To enhance editing precision, we introduce a delta score to calculate the 2D mask in the latent space that serves as a guide for local modifications while preserving irrelevant regions. Our novel pixel-level scoring approach harnesses the power of InstructPix2Pix (IP2P) to discern the disparity between IP2P conditional and unconditional noise predictions in the latent space. The edited latents conditioned on the 2D masks are then iteratively updated in the training set to achieve 3D local editing. Our approach achieves faster editing speeds and superior output quality compared to existing 3D editing models, bridging the gap between textual instructions and high-quality 3D scene editing in latent space. We show the superiority of our approach on four benchmark 3D datasets, LLFF [?], IN2N [?], NeRFStudio [?] and NeRF-Art [?]. Project Page: https: //latenteditor.github.io/"

Latent-INR: A Flexible Framework for Implicit Representations of Videos with Discriminative Semantics

展开摘要

"Implicit Neural Networks (INRs) have emerged as powerful representations to encode all forms of data, including images, videos, audios, and scenes. With video, many INRs for video have been proposed for the compression task, and recent methods feature significant improvements with respect to encoding time, storage, and reconstruction quality. However, these encoded representations lack semantic meaning, so they cannot be used for any downstream tasks that require such properties, such as retrieval. This can act as a barrier for adoption of video INRs over traditional codecs as they do not offer any significant edge apart from compression. To alleviate this, we propose a flexible framework that decouples the spatial and temporal aspects of the video INR. We accomplish this with a dictionary of per-frame latents that are learned jointly with a set of video specific hypernetworks, such that given a latent, these hypernetworks can predict the INR weights to reconstruct the given frame. This framework not only retains the compression efficiency, but the learned latents can be aligned with features from large vision models, which grants them discriminative properties. We align these latents with CLIP and show good performance for both compression and video retrieval tasks. By aligning with VideoLlama, we are able to perform open-ended chat with our learned latents as the visual inputs. Additionally, the learned latents serve as a proxy for the underlying weights, allowing us perform tasks like video interpolation. These semantic properties and applications, existing simultaneously with ability to perform compression, interpolation, and superresolution properties, are a first in this field of work."

展开摘要

"With the ability to generate high-quality images, text-to-image (T2I) models can be exploited for creating inappropriate content. To prevent misuse, existing safety measures are either based on text blacklists, easily circumvented, or harmful content classification, using large datasets for training and offering low flexibility. Here, we propose , a framework designed to improve safety measures in text-to-image generation. Inspired by blacklist-based approaches, learns a latent space on top of the T2I model’s text encoder, where we check the presence of harmful concepts in the input text embeddings. Our framework is composed of a data generation pipeline specific to the task using large language models, ad-hoc architectural components, and a contrastive learning strategy to benefit from the generated data. Our method is evaluated on three datasets and against four baselines. redWarning: This paper contains potentially offensive text and images."

Large-scale Reinforcement Learning for Diffusion Models

展开摘要

"Text-to-image diffusion models are cutting-edge deep generative models that have demonstrated impressive capabilities in generating high-quality images. However, these models are susceptible to implicit biases originating from web-scale text-image training pairs, potentially leading to inaccuracies in modeling image attributes. This susceptibility can manifest as suboptimal samples, model bias, and images that do not align with human ethics and preferences. In this paper, we propose a scalable algorithm for enhancing diffusion models using Reinforcement Learning (RL) with a diverse range of reward functions, including human preference, compositionality, and social diversity over millions of images. We demonstrate how our approach significantly outperforms existing methods for aligning diffusion models with human preferences. We further illustrate how this substantially improves pretrained Stable Diffusion (SD) models, generating samples that are preferred by humans 80.3% of the time over those from the base SD model, while simultaneously enhancing object composition and diversity of the samples."

Large-Scale Multi-Hypotheses Cell Tracking Using Ultrametric Contours Maps

展开摘要

"In this work, we describe a method for large-scale 3D cell-tracking through a segmentation selection approach. The proposed method is effective at tracking cells across large microscopy datasets on two fronts: (i) It can solve problems containing millions of segmentation instances in terabyte-scale 3D+t datasets; (ii) It achieves competitive results with or without deep learning, bypassing the requirement of 3D annotated data, that is scarce in the fluorescence microscopy field. The proposed method computes cell tracks and segments using a hierarchy of segmentation hypotheses and selects disjoint segments by maximizing the overlap between adjacent frames. We show that this method is the first to achieve state-of-the-art in both nuclei- and membrane-based cell tracking by evaluating it on the 2D epithelial cell benchmark and 3D images from the cell tracking challenge. Furthermore, it has a faster integer linear programming formulation, and the framework is flexible, supporting segmentations from individual off-the-shelf cell segmentation models or their combination as an ensemble. The code is available as supplementary material."

展开摘要

"Human motion generation, a cornerstone technique in animation and video production, has widespread applications in various tasks like text-to-motion and music-to-dance. Previous works focus on developing specialist models tailored for each task without scalability. In this work, we present Large Motion Model (LMM), a motion-centric, multi-modal framework that unifies mainstream motion generation tasks into a generalist model. A unified motion model is appealing since it can leverage a wide range of motion data to achieve broad generalization beyond a single task. However, it is also challenging due to the heterogeneous nature of substantially different motion data and tasks. LMM tackles these challenges from three principled aspects: 1) Data: We consolidate datasets with different modalities, formats and tasks into a comprehensive yet unified motion generation dataset, MotionVerse, comprising 10 tasks, 16 datasets, a total of 320k sequences, and 100 million frames. 2) Architecture: We design an articulated attention mechanism that incorporates body part-aware modeling into Diffusion Transformer backbone. 3) Pre-Training: We propose a novel pre-training strategy for LMM, which employs variable frame rates and masking forms, to better exploit knowledge from diverse training data. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our generalist LMM achieves competitive performance across various standard motion generation tasks over state-of-the-art specialist models. Notably, LMM exhibits strong generalization capabilities and emerging properties across many unseen tasks. Additionally, our ablation studies reveal valuable insights about training and scaling up large motion models for future research."

Language-Image Pre-training with Long Captions

展开摘要

"Language-image pre-training largely relies on how precisely and thoroughly a text describes its paired image. In practice, however, the contents of an image can be so rich that well describing them requires lengthy captions (e.g., with 10 sentences), which are usually missing in existing datasets. Consequently, there are currently no clear evidences on whether and how language-image pre-training could benefit from long captions. To figure this out, we first re-caption 30M images with detailed descriptions using a pre-trained Multi-modality Large Language Model (MLLM), and then study the usage of the resulting captions under a contrastive learning framework. We observe that, each sentence within a long caption is very likely to describe the image partially (e.g., an object). Motivated by this, we propose to dynamically sample sub-captions from the text label to construct multiple positive pairs, and introduce a grouping loss to match the embeddings of each sub-caption with its corresponding local image patches in a self-supervised manner. Experimental results on a wide range of downstream tasks demonstrate the consistent superiority of our method, termed , over previous alternatives, highlighting its fine-grained representational capacity. It is noteworthy that, on the tasks of image-text retrieval and semantic segmentation, our model trained with 30M image-text pairs achieves on par or even better performance than CLIP trained with 400M pairs. 展开摘要

"Scene representations using 3D Gaussian primitives have produced excellent results in modeling the appearance of static and dynamic 3D scenes. Many graphics applications, however, demand the ability to manipulate both the appearance and the physical properties of objects. We introduce Feature Splatting, an approach that unifies physics-based dynamic scene synthesis with rich semantics from vision language foundation models that are grounded by natural language. Our first contribution is a way to distill high-quality, object-centric vision-language features into 3D Gaussians, that enables semi-automatic scene decomposition using text queries. Our second contribution is a way to synthesize physics-based dynamics from an otherwise static scene using a particle-based simulator, in which material properties are assigned automatically via text queries. We ablate key techniques used in this pipeline, to illustrate the challenge and opportunities in using feature-carrying 3D Gaussians as a unified format for appearance, geometry, material properties and semantics grounded on natural language."

Language-Assisted Skeleton Action Understanding for Skeleton-Based Temporal Action Segmentation

展开摘要

"Skeleton-based Temporal Action Segmentation (STAS) aims to densely segment and classify human actions in long, untrimmed skeletal motion sequences. Existing STAS methods primarily model spatial dependencies among joints and temporal relationships among frames to generate frame-level one-hot classifications. However, these methods overlook the deep mining of semantic relations among joints as well as actions at a linguistic level, which limits the comprehensiveness of skeleton action understanding. In this work, we propose a Language-assisted Skeleton Action Understanding (LaSA) method that leverages the language modality to assist in learning semantic relationships among joints and actions. Specifically, in terms of joint relationships, the Joint Relationships Establishment (JRE) module establishes correlations among joints in the feature sequence by applying attention between joint texts and differentiates distinct joints by embedding joint texts as positional embeddings. Regarding action relationships, the Action Relationships Supervision (ARS) module enhances the discrimination across action classes through contrastive learning of single-class action-text pairs and models the semantic associations of adjacent actions by contrasting mixed-class clip-text pairs. Performance evaluation on five public datasets demonstrates that LaSA achieves state-of-the-art results. Code is available at https://github.com/HaoyuJi/LaSA."

Lane Graph as Path: Continuity-preserving Path-wise Modeling for Online Lane Graph Construction

展开摘要

"Online lane graph construction is a promising but challenging task in autonomous driving. Previous methods usually model the lane graph at the pixel or piece level, and recover the lane graph by pixel-wise or piece-wise connection, which breaks down the continuity of the lane and results in suboptimal performance. Human drivers focus on and drive along the continuous and complete paths instead of considering lane pieces. Autonomous vehicles also require path-specific guidance from lane graph for trajectory planning. We argue that the path, which indicates the traffic flow, is the primitive of the lane graph. Motivated by this, we propose to model the lane graph in a novel path-wise manner, which well preserves the continuity of the lane and encodes traffic information for planning. We present a path-based online lane graph construction method, termed LaneGAP, which end-to-end learns the path and recovers the lane graph via a Path2Graph algorithm. We qualitatively and quantitatively demonstrate the superior accuracy and efficiency of LaneGAP over conventional pixel-based and piece-based methods on the challenging nuScenes and Argoverse2 datasets under controllable and fair conditions. Compared to the recent state-of-the-art piece-wise method TopoNet on the OpenLane-V2 dataset, LaneGAP still outperforms by 1.6 mIoU, further validating the effectiveness of path-wise modeling. Abundant visualizations in the supplementary material show LaneGAP can cope with diverse traffic conditions. Code is released at https://github.com/hustvl/ LaneGAP."

展开摘要

"We present Lagrangian Hashing, a representation for neural fields combining the characteristics of fast training NeRF methods that rely on Eulerian grids (i.e. InstantNGP), with those that employ points equipped with features as a way to represent information (e.g. 3D Gaussian Splatting or PointNeRF). We achieve this by incorporating a point-based representation into the high-resolution layers of the hierarchical hash tables of an InstantNGP representation. As our points are equipped with a field of influence, our representation can be interpreted as a mixture of Gaussians stored within the hash table. We propose a loss that encourages the movement of our Gaussians towards regions that require more representation budget to be sufficiently well represented. Our main finding is that our representation allows the reconstruction of signals using a more compact representation without compromising quality."

Labeled Data Selection for Category Discovery

展开摘要

"Visual category discovery methods aim to find novel categories in unlabeled visual data. At training time, a set of labeled and unlabeled images are provided, where the labels correspond to the categories present in the images. The labeled data provides guidance during training by indicating what types of visual properties and features are relevant for performing discovery in the unlabeled data. As a result, changing the categories present in the labeled set can have a large impact on what is ultimately discovered in the unlabeled set. Despite its importance, the impact of labeled data selection has not been explored in the category discovery literature to date. We show that changing the labeled data does indeed significantly impact discovery performance. Motivated by this, we propose two new approaches for automatically selecting the most suitable labeled data based on the similarity between the labeled and unlabeled data. Our observation is that, unlike in conventional supervised transfer learning, the most informative labeled data is neither too similar nor too dissimilar, to the unlabeled categories. Our resulting approaches obtain state-of-the-art discovery performance across a range of methods and challenging fine-grained benchmark datasets."

LabelDistill: Label-guided Cross-modal Knowledge Distillation for Camera-based 3D Object Detection

展开摘要

"Recent advancements in camera-based 3D object detection have introduced cross-modal knowledge distillation to bridge the performance gap with LiDAR 3D detectors, leveraging the precise geometric information in LiDAR point clouds. However, existing cross-modal knowledge distillation methods tend to overlook the inherent imperfections of LiDAR, such as the ambiguity of measurements on distant or occluded objects, which should not be transferred to the image detector. To mitigate these imperfections in LiDAR teacher, we propose a novel method that leverages aleatoric uncertainty-free features from ground truth labels. In contrast to conventional label guidance approaches, we approximate the inverse function of the teacher’s head to effectively embed label inputs into feature space. This approach provides additional accurate guidance alongside LiDAR teacher, thereby boosting the performance of the image detector. Additionally, we introduce feature partitioning, which effectively transfers knowledge from the teacher modality while preserving the distinctive features of the student, thereby maximizing the potential of both modalities. Experimental results demonstrate that our approach improves mAP and NDS by 5.1 points and 4.9 points compared to the baseline model, proving the effectiveness of our approach. Label-free Neural Semantic Image Synthesis

展开摘要

"Recent work has shown great progress in integrating spatial conditioning to control large, pre-trained text-to-image diffusion models. Despite these advances, existing methods describe the spatial image content using hand-crafted conditioning inputs, which are either semantically ambiguous (e.g., edges) or require expensive manual annotations (e.g., semantic segmentation). To address these limitations, we propose a new label-free way of conditioning diffusion models to enable fine-grained spatial control. We introduce the concept of neural semantic image synthesis, which uses neural layouts extracted from pre-trained foundation models as conditioning. These layouts provide rich descriptions of the desired image, containing both semantics and detailed geometry of the scene. We experimentally show that images synthesized via neural semantic image synthesis achieve similar or superior pixel-level alignment of semantic classes compared to those created using expensive semantic label maps. At the same time, they capture better semantics, instance separation, and object orientation than other label-free conditioning options, such as edges or depth. Moreover, we show that images generated by neural layout conditioning can effectively augment real data for training various perception tasks."
