Region-Adaptive Transform with Segmentation Prior for Image Compression

Yuxi Liu, Wenhan Yang, Huihui Bai, Yunchao Wei, Yao Zhao

展开摘要

"Learned Image Compression (LIC) has shown remarkable progress in recent years. Existing works commonly employ CNN-based or Transformer-based modules as transform methods for compression. However, there is no prior research on neural transform that focuses on specific regions. In response, we introduce the class-agnostic segmentation masks (i.e. semantic masks without category labels) for extracting region-adaptive contextual information. Our proposed module, Region-Adaptive Transform, applies adaptive convolutions on different regions guided by the masks. Additionally, we introduce a plug-and-play module named Scale Affine Layer to incorporate rich contexts from various regions. While there have been prior image compression efforts that involve segmentation masks as additional intermediate inputs, our approach differs significantly from them. Our advantages lie in that, to avoid extra bitrate overhead, we treat these masks as privilege information, which is accessible during the model training stage but not required during the inference phase. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first to employ class-agnostic masks as privilege information and achieve superior performance in pixel-fidelity metrics, such as Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR). The experimental results demonstrate our improvement compared to previously well-performing methods, with about 8.2% bitrate saving compared to VTM-17.0. Reflective Instruction Tuning: Mitigating Hallucinations in Large Vision-Language Models

Jinrui Zhang, Teng Wang, Haigang Zhang, Ping Lu, Feng Zheng

展开摘要

"Large vision-language models (LVLMs) have shown promising performance on a variety of vision-language tasks. However, they remain susceptible to hallucinations, generating outputs misaligned with visual content or instructions. While various mitigation strategies have been proposed, they often neglect a key contributor to hallucinations: lack of fine-grained reasoning supervision during training. Without intermediate reasoning steps, models may establish superficial shortcuts between instructions and responses, failing to internalize the inherent reasoning logic. To address this challenge, we propose reflective instruction tuning, which integrates rationale learning into visual instruction tuning. Unlike previous methods that learning from responses only, our approach entails the model predicting rationales justifying why responses are correct or incorrect. This fosters a deeper engagement with the fine-grained reasoning underlying each response, thus enhancing the model’s reasoning proficiency. To facilitate this approach, we propose REVERIE, the first large-scale instruction-tuning dataset with ReflEctiVE RatIonalE annotations. REVERIE comprises 115k machine-generated reasoning instructions, each meticulously annotated with a corresponding pair of correct and confusing responses, alongside comprehensive rationales elucidating the justification behind the correctness or erroneousness of each response. Experimental results on multiple LVLM benchmarks reveal that reflective instruction tuning with the REVERIE dataset yields noticeable performance gain over the baseline model, demonstrating the effectiveness of reflecting from the rationales. 展开摘要

"We introduce a new task called Referring Atomic Video Action Recognition (RAVAR), aimed at identifying atomic actions of a particular person based on a textual description and the video data of this person. This task differs from traditional action recognition and localization, where predictions are delivered for all present individuals. In contrast, we focus on recognizing the correct atomic action of a specific individual, guided by text. To explore this task, we present the RefAVA dataset, containing 36, 630 instances with manually annotated textual descriptions of the individuals. To establish a strong initial benchmark, we implement and validate baselines from various domains, e.g., atomic action localization, video question answering, and text-video retrieval. Since these existing methods underperform on RAVAR, we introduce RefAtomNet – a novel cross-stream attention-driven method specialized for the unique challenges of RAVAR: the need to interpret a textual referring expression for the targeted individual, utilize this reference to guide the spatial localization and harvest the prediction of the atomic actions for the referring person. The key ingredients are: (1) a multi-stream architecture that connects video, text, and a new location-semantic stream, and (2) cross-stream agent attention fusion and agent token fusion which amplify the most relevant information across these streams and consistently surpasses standard attention-based fusion on RAVAR. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of RefAtomNet and its building blocks for recognizing the action of the described individual. The dataset and code will be made publicly available at RAVAR."

展开摘要

"Traditional reference segmentation tasks have predominantly focused on silent visual scenes, neglecting the integral role of multimodal perception and interaction in human experiences. In this work, we introduce a novel task called Reference Audio-Visual Segmentation (Ref-AVS), which seeks to segment objects within the visual domain based on expressions containing multimodal cues. Such expressions are articulated in natural language forms but are enriched with multimodal cues, including audio and visual descriptions. To facilitate this research, we construct the first Ref-AVS benchmark, which provides pixel-level annotations for objects described in corresponding multimodal-cue expressions. To tackle the Ref-AVS task, we propose a new method that adequately utilizes multimodal cues to offer precise segmentation guidance. Finally, we conduct quantitative and qualitative experiments on three test subsets to compare our approach with existing methods from related tasks. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of our method, highlighting its capability to precisely segment objects using multimodal-cue expressions. Dataset is available at https://gewu-lab.github.io/Ref-AVS."

展开摘要

"Visual Programming (VP) has emerged as a powerful framework for Visual Question Answering (VQA). By generating and executing bespoke code for each question, these methods show advancement in leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) for complex problem-solving. Despite their potential, existing VP methods generate all code in a single function, which does not fully utilize LLM’s reasoning capacity and the modular adaptability of code. This results in code that is suboptimal in terms of both accuracy and interpretability. Inspired by human coding practices, we propose Recursive Visual Programming (RVP), which better harnesses the reasoning capacity of LLMs, provides modular code structure between code pieces, and assigns different return types for the sub-problems elegantly. RVP approaches VQA tasks with an top-down recursive code generation approach, allowing decomposition of complicated problems into smaller parts. We show RVP’s efficacy through extensive experiments on benchmarks including VSR, COVR, GQA, and NextQA, underscoring the value of adopting human-like recursive and modular programming techniques for solving VQA tasks. Our code is available at https://github.com/para-lost/RVP."

展开摘要

"Long-term temporal fusion is frequently employed in camera-based Bird’s-Eye-View (BEV) 3D object detection to improve detection of occluded objects. Existing methods can be divided into two categories, parallel fusion and recurrent fusion. Recurrent fusion reduces inference latency and memory consumption but fails to exploit the long-term information as well as parallel fusion. In this paper, we first find two shortcomings of recurrent fusion paradigm: (1) Gradients of previous BEV features cannot directly contribute to the fusion module. (2) Semantic ambiguity are caused by coarse granularity of the BEV grids during aligning BEV features. Then based on the above analysis, we propose RecurrentBEV, a novel recurrent temporal fusion method for BEV based 3D object detector. By adopting RNN-style back-propagation and new-designed inner grid transformation, RecurrentBEV improves the long-term fusion ability while still enjoying efficient inference latency and memory consumption during inference. Extensive experiments on the nuScenes benchmark demonstrate its effectiveness, achieving a new state-of-the-art performance of 57.4% mAP and 65.1% NDS on the test set. The real-time version (25.6 FPS) achieves 44.5% mAP and 54.9% NDS without external dataset, outperforming the previous best method StreamPETR by 1.3% mAP and 0.9% NDS. The code is available at https://github.com/lucifer443/RecurrentBEV."

Rectify the Regression Bias in Long-Tailed Object Detection

Ke Zhu, Minghao Fu, Jie Shao, Tianyu Liu, Jianxin Wu

展开摘要

"Long-tailed object detection faces great challenges because of its extremely imbalanced class distribution. Recent methods mainly focus on the classification bias and its loss function design, while ignoring the subtle influence of the regression branch. This paper shows that the regression bias exists and does adversely and seriously impact the detection accuracy. While existing methods fail to handle the regression bias, the class-specific regression head for rare classes is hypothesized to be the main cause of it in this paper. As a result, three kinds of viable solutions to cater for the rare categories are proposed, including adding a class-agnostic branch, clustering heads and merging heads. The proposed methods brings in consistent and significant improvements over existing long-tailed detection methods, especially in rare and common classes. The proposed method achieves state-of-the-art performance in the large vocabulary LVIS dataset with different backbones and architectures. It generalizes well to more difficult evaluation metrics, relatively balanced datasets, and the mask branch. This is the first attempt to reveal and explore rectifying of the regression bias in long-tailed object detection."

"Reconstructing and simulating elastic objects from visual observations is crucial for applications in computer vision and robotics. Existing methods, such as 3D Gaussians, model 3D appearance and geometry, but lack the ability to estimate physical properties for objects and simulate them. The core challenge lies in integrating an expressive yet efficient physical dynamics model. We propose , a 3D physical object representation for reconstructing and simulating elastic objects from videos of the object from multiple viewpoints. In particular, we develop and integrate a 3D Spring-Mass model into 3D Gaussian kernels, enabling the reconstruction of the visual appearance, shape, and physical dynamics of the object. Our approach enables future prediction and simulation under various initial states and environmental properties. We evaluate on both synthetic and real-world datasets, demonstrating accurate reconstruction and simulation of elastic objects. Project page: ."

展开摘要

"Concept erasure in text-to-image diffusion models aims to disable pre-trained diffusion models from generating images related to a target concept. To perform reliable concept erasure, the properties of robustness and locality are desirable. The former refrains the model from producing images associated with the target concept for any paraphrased or learned prompts, while the latter preserves its ability in generating images with non-target concepts. In this paper, we propose Reliable Concept Erasing via Lightweight Erasers (Receler). It learns a lightweight Eraser to perform concept erasing while satisfying the above desirable properties through the proposed concept-localized regularization and adversarial prompt learning scheme. Experiments with various concepts verify the superiority of Receler over previous methods. Code is available at https: //github.com/jasper0314-huang/Receler."

Rebalancing Using Estimated Class Distribution for Imbalanced Semi-Supervised Learning under Class Distribution Mismatch

Taemin Park, Hyuck Lee, Heeyoung Kim

展开摘要

"Despite significant advancements in class-imbalanced semi-supervised learning (CISSL), many existing algorithms explicitly or implicitly assume that the class distribution of unlabeled data matches that of labeled data. However, when this assumption fails in practice, the classification performance of such algorithms may degrade due to incorrectly assigned weight to each class during training. We propose a novel CISSL algorithm called Rebalancing Using Estimated Class Distribution (RECD). RECD estimates the unknown class distribution of unlabeled data through Monte Carlo approximation, leveraging predicted class probabilities for unlabeled samples, and subsequently rebalances the classifier based on the estimated class distribution. Additionally, we propose an extension of feature clusters compression in the context of CISSL to mitigate feature map imbalance by densifying minority class clusters. Experimental results on four benchmark datasets demonstrate that RECD achieves state-of-the-art classification performance in CISSL."

展开摘要

"Large vision-language models (VLMs) have garnered increasing interest in autonomous driving areas, due to their advanced capabilities in complex reasoning tasks essential for highly autonomous vehicle behavior. Despite their potential, research in autonomous systems is hindered by the lack of datasets with annotated reasoning chains that explain the decision-making processes in driving. To bridge this gap, we present Reason2Drive, a benchmark dataset with over 600K video-text pairs, aimed at facilitating the study of interpretable reasoning in complex driving environments. We distinctly characterize the autonomous driving process as a sequential combination of perception, prediction, and reasoning steps, and the question-answer pairs are automatically collected from a diverse range of open-source outdoor driving datasets, including nuScenes, Waymo and ONCE. Moreover, we introduce a novel aggregated evaluation metric to assess chain-based reasoning performance in autonomous systems, addressing the reasoning ambiguities of existing metrics such as BLEU and CIDEr. Based on the proposed benchmark, we conduct experiments to assess various existing VLMs, revealing insights into their reasoning capabilities. Additionally, we develop an efficient approach to empower VLMs to leverage object-level perceptual elements in both feature extraction and prediction, further enhancing their reasoning accuracy. Extendable experiments demonstrate the supportive effect of Reason2Drive towards visual reasoning and downstream planning tasks."

Realistic Human Motion Generation with Cross-Diffusion Models

Zeping Ren, Shaoli Huang, Xiu Li

展开摘要

"In this work, we introduce the Cross Human Motion Diffusion Model (CrossDiff1 ), a novel approach for generating high-quality human motion based on textual descriptions. Our method integrates 3D and 2D information using a shared transformer network within the training of the diffusion model, unifying motion noise into a single feature space. This enables cross-decoding of features into both 3D and 2D motion representations, regardless of their original dimension. The primary advantage of CrossDiff is its cross-diffusion mechanism, which allows the model to reverse either 2D or 3D noise into clean motion during training. This capability leverages the complementary information in both motion representations, capturing intricate human movement details often missed by models relying solely on 3D information. Consequently, CrossDiff effectively combines the strengths of both representations to generate more realistic motion sequences. In our experiments, our model demonstrates competitive state-of-the-art performance on text-to-motion benchmarks. Moreover, our method consistently provides enhanced motion generation quality, capturing complex full-body movement intricacies. Additionally, with a pre-trained model, our approach accommodates using in-the-wild 2D motion data without 3D motion ground truth during training to generate 3D motion, highlighting its potential for broader applications and efficient use of available data resources. 1 https://wonderno.github.io/CrossDiff-webpage/"

RealViformer: Investigating Attention for Real-World Video Super-Resolution

Yuehan Zhang, Angela Yao

展开摘要

"In real-world video super-resolution (VSR), videos suffer from in-the-wild degradations and artifacts. VSR methods, especially recurrent ones, tend to propagate artifacts over time in the real-world setting and are more vulnerable than image super-resolution. This paper investigates the influence of artifacts on commonly used covariance-based attention mechanisms in VSR. Comparing the widely-used spatial attention, which computes covariance over space, versus the channel attention, we observe that the latter is less sensitive to artifacts. However, channel attention leads to feature redundancy, as evidenced by the higher covariance among output channels. As such, we explore simple techniques such as the squeeze-excite mechanism and covariance-based rescaling to counter the effects of high channel covariance. Based on our findings, we propose RealViformer. This channel-attention-based real-world VSR framework surpasses state-of-the-art on two real-world VSR datasets with fewer parameters and faster runtimes. 展开摘要

"Simulation plays a crucial role in the development of autonomous vehicles (AVs) due to the potential risks associated with real-world testing. Although significant progress has been made in the visual aspects of simulators, generating complex behavior among agents remains a formidable challenge. It is not only imperative to ensure realism in the scenarios generated but also essential to incorporate preferences and conditions to facilitate controllable generation for AV training and evaluation. Traditional methods, which rely mainly on memorizing the distribution of training datasets, often fail to generate unseen scenarios. Inspired by the success of retrieval augmented generation in large language models, we present RealGen, a novel retrieval-based in-context learning framework for traffic scenario generation. RealGen synthesizes new scenarios by combining behaviors from multiple retrieved examples in a gradient-free way, which may originate from templates or tagged scenarios. This in-context learning framework endows versatile generative capabilities, including the ability to edit scenarios, compose various behaviors, and produce critical scenarios. Evaluations show that RealGen offers considerable flexibility and controllability, marking a new direction in the field of controllable traffic scenario generation. Real-time Holistic Robot Pose Estimation with Unknown States

Shikun Ban, Juling Fan, Xiaoxuan Ma, Wentao Zhu, Yu Qiao, Yizhou Wang

展开摘要

"Estimating robot pose from RGB images is a crucial problem in computer vision and robotics. While previous methods have achieved promising performance, most of them presume full knowledge of robot internal states, ground-truth robot joint angles. However, this assumption is not always valid in practical situations. In real-world applications such as multi-robot collaboration or human-robot interaction, the robot joint states might not be shared or could be unreliable. On the other hand, existing approaches that estimate robot pose without joint state priors suffer from heavy computation burdens and thus cannot support real-time applications. This work introduces an efficient framework for real-time robot pose estimation from RGB images without requiring known robot states. Our method estimates camera-to-robot rotation, robot state parameters, keypoint locations, and root depth, employing a neural network module for each task to facilitate learning and sim-to-real transfer. Notably, it achieves inference in a single feed-forward pass without iterative optimization. Our approach offers a 12× speed increase with state-of-the-art accuracy, enabling real-time holistic robot pose estimation for the first time. 展开摘要

"This work presents , a practical method that can efficiently edit a face image following given prompts, like reference images or text descriptions, in a 3D-aware manner. To this end, a lightweight module is distilled from a 3D portrait generator and a text-to-image model, which provide prior knowledge of face geometry and superior editing capability, respectively. Such a design brings two compelling advantages over existing approaches. First, our method achieves real-time editing with a feedforward network (i.e., ∼0.04s per image), over 100× faster than the second competitor. Second, thanks to the powerful priors, our module could focus on the learning of editing-related variations, such that it manages to handle various types of editing simultaneously in the training phase and further supports fast adaptation to user-specified customized types of editing during inference (e.g., with ∼5min fine-tuning per style). Real-data-driven 2000 FPS Color Video from Mosaicked Chromatic Spikes

Siqi Yang, Zhaojun Huang, Yakun Chang, Bin Fan, Zhaofei Yu, Boxin Shi

展开摘要

"The spike camera continuously records scene radiance with high-speed, high dynamic range, and low data redundancy properties, as a promising replacement for frame-based high-speed cameras. Previous methods for reconstructing color videos from monochromatic spikes are constrained in capturing full-temporal color information due to their reliance on compensating colors from low-speed RGB frames. Applying a Bayer-pattern color filter array to the spike sensor yields mosaicked chromatic spikes, which complicates noise distribution in high-speed conditions. By validating that the noise of short-term frames follows a zero-mean distribution, we leverage this hypothesis to develop a self-supervised denoising module trained exclusively on real-world data. Although noise is reduced in short-term frames, the long-term accumulation of incident photons is still necessary to construct HDR frames. Therefore, we introduce a progressive warping module to generate pseudo long-term exposure frames. This approach effectively mitigates motion blur artifacts in high-speed conditions. Integrating these modules forms a real-data-driven reconstruction method for mosaicked chromatic spikes. Extensive experiments conducted on both synthetic and real-world data demonstrate that our approach is effective in reconstructing 2000FPS color HDR videos with significantly reduced noise and motion blur compared to existing methods."

Real Appearance Modeling for More General Deepfake Detection

展开摘要

"Recent studies in deepfake detection have shown promising results when detecting deepfakes of the same type as those present in training. However, their ability to generalize to unseen deepfakes remains limited. This work improves the generalizable deepfake detection from a simple principle: an ideal detector classifies any face that contains anomalies not found in real faces as fake. Namely, detectors should learn consistent real appearances rather than fake patterns in the training set that may not apply to unseen deepfakes. Guided by this principle, we propose a learning task named Real Appearance Modeling (RAM) that guides the model to learn real appearances by recovering original faces from slightly disturbed faces. We further propose Face Disturbance to produce disturbed faces while preserving original information that enables recovery, which aids the model in learning the fine-grained appearance of real faces. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of modeling real appearances to spot richer deepfakes. Our method surpasses existing state-of-the-art methods by a large margin on multiple popular deepfake datasets."

展开摘要

"Lip-syncing videos with given audio is the foundation for various applications including the creation of virtual presenters or performers. While recent studies explore high-fidelity lip-sync with different techniques, their task-orientated models either require long-term videos for clip-specific training or retain visible artifacts. In this paper, we propose a unified and effective framework ReSyncer, that synchronizes generalized audio-visual facial information. The key design is revisiting and rewiring the Style-based generator to efficiently adopt 3D facial dynamics predicted by a principled style-injected Transformer. By simply re-configuring the information insertion mechanisms within the noise and style space, our framework fuses motion and appearance with unified training. Extensive experiments demonstrate that ReSyncer not only produces high-fidelity lip-synced videos according to audio, but also supports multiple appealing properties that are suitable for creating virtual presenters and performers, including fast personalized fine-tuning, video-driven lip-syncing, the transfer of speaking styles, and even face swapping."

RePOSE: 3D Human Pose Estimation via Spatio-Temporal Depth Relational Consistency

Ziming Sun, Yuan Liang, Zejun MA, Tianle Zhang, Linchao Bao, Guiqing Li, Shengfeng He

展开摘要

"We introduce RePOSE, a simple yet effective approach for addressing occlusion challenges in the learning of 3D human pose estimation (HPE) from videos. Conventional approaches typically employ absolute depth signals as supervision, which are adept at discernible keypoints but become less reliable when keypoints are occluded, resulting in vague and inconsistent learning trajectories for the neural network. RePOSE overcomes this limitation by introducing spatio-temporal relational depth consistency into the supervision signals. The core rationale of our method lies in prioritizing the precise sequencing of occluded keypoints. This is achieved by using a relative depth consistency loss that operates in both spatial and temporal domains. By doing so, RePOSE shifts the focus from learning absolute depth values, which can be misleading in occluded scenarios, to relative positioning, which provides a more robust and reliable cue for accurate pose estimation. This subtle yet crucial shift facilitates more consistent and accurate 3D HPE under occlusion conditions. The elegance of our core idea lies in its simplicity and ease of implementation, requiring only a few lines of code. Extensive experiments validate that RePOSE not only outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods but also significantly enhances the robustness and precision of 3D HPE in challenging occluded environments."
