Rotated Orthographic Projection for Self-Supervised 3D Human Pose Estimation

Yao Yao, Yixuan Pan, Wenjun Shi, Dongchen Zhu, Lei Wang, Jiamao Li

展开摘要

"Reprojection consistency is widely used for self-supervised 3D human pose estimation. However, few efforts have been made to address the inherent limitations of reprojection consistency. Lacking camera parameters and absolute position, self-supervised methods map 3D poses to 2D using orthographic projection, whereas 2D inputs are derived from perspective projection. This discrepancy among the projection models creates an offset between the supervision and prediction spaces, limiting the performance potential. To address this problem, we propose rotated orthographic projection, which achieves a geometric approximation of the perspective projection by adding a rotation operation before the orthographic projection. Further, we optimize the reference point selection according to the human body structure and propose group rotated orthographic projection, which significantly narrows the gap between the two projection models. Meanwhile, the reprojection consistency loss fails to constrain the Z-axis reverse wrong pose in 3D space. Therefore, we introduce the joint reverse constraint to limit the range of angles between the local reference plane and the end joints, penalizing unrealistic 3D poses and clarifying the Z-axis orientation of the model. The proposed method achieves state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance on both Human3.6M and MPII-INF-3DHP datasets. Particularly, it reduces the mean error from 65.9mm to 42.9mm (34.9% improvement) over the SOTA self-supervised method on Human3.6M."

Rotary Position Embedding for Vision Transformer

展开摘要

"Rotary Position Embedding (RoPE) performs remarkably on language models, especially for length extrapolation of Transformers. However, the impacts of RoPE on computer vision domains have been underexplored, even though RoPE appears capable of enhancing Vision Transformer (ViT) performance in a way similar to the language domain. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of RoPE when applied to ViTs, utilizing practical implementations of RoPE for 2D vision data. The analysis reveals that RoPE demonstrates impressive extrapolation performance, i.e., maintaining precision while increasing image resolution at inference. It eventually leads to performance improvement for ImageNet-1k, COCO detection, and ADE-20k segmentation. We believe this study provides thorough guidelines to apply RoPE into ViT, promising improved backbone performance with minimal extra computational overhead. 展开摘要

"The advancement of diffusion models has pushed the boundary of text-to-3D object generation. While it is straightforward to composite objects into a scene with reasonable geometry, it is nontrivial to texture such a scene perfectly due to style inconsistency and occlusions between objects. To tackle these problems, we propose a coarse-to-fine 3D scene texturing framework, referred to as RoomTex, to generate high-fidelity and style-consistent textures for untextured compositional scene meshes. In the coarse stage, RoomTex first unwraps the scene mesh to a panoramic depth map and leverages ControlNet to generate a room panorama, which is regarded as the coarse reference to ensure the global texture consistency. In the fine stage, based on the panoramic image and perspective depth maps, RoomTex will refine and texture every single object in the room iteratively along a series of selected camera views, until this object is completely painted. Moreover, we propose to maintain superior alignment between RGB and depth spaces via subtle edge detection methods. Extensive experiments show our method is capable of generating high-quality and diverse room textures, and more importantly, supporting interactive fine-grained texture control and flexible scene editing thanks to our inpainting-based framework and compositional mesh input. "Accurate completion and denoising of roof height maps are crucial to reconstructing high-quality 3D buildings. Repairing sparse points can enhance low-cost sensor use and reduce UAV flight overlap. is a new end-to-end self-supervised diffusion technique for robustly completing, in particular difficult, roof height maps. leverages widely-available curated footprints and can so handle up to 99% point sparsity and 80% roof area occlusion (regional incompleteness). A variant, , simultaneously predicts building footprints and heights. Both quantitatively outperform state-of-the-art unguided depth completion and representative inpainting methods for Digital Elevation Models (DEM), on both a roof-specific benchmark and the BuildingNet dataset. Qualitative assessments show the effectiveness of for datasets with real-world scans including AHN3, Dales3D, and USGS 3DEP LiDAR. 展开摘要

"We present RodinHD, which can generate high-fidelity 3D avatars from a portrait image. Existing methods fail to capture intricate details such as hairstyles which we tackle in this paper. We first identify an overlooked problem of catastrophic forgetting that arises when fitting triplanes sequentially on many avatars, caused by the MLP decoder sharing scheme. To overcome this issue, we raise a novel data scheduling strategy and a weight consolidation regularization term, which improves the decoder’s capability of rendering sharper details. Additionally, we optimize the guiding effect of the portrait image by computing a finer-grained hierarchical representation that captures rich 2D texture cues, and injecting them to the 3D diffusion model at multiple layers via cross-attention. When trained on 46K avatars with a noise schedule optimized for triplanes, the resulting model can generate 3D avatars with notably better details than previous methods and can generalize to in-the-wild portrait input. See fig:teaser for some examples. Project page: https://rodinhd.github.io/."

Robustness Tokens: Towards Adversarial Robustness of Transformers

展开摘要

"Recently, large pre-trained foundation models have become widely adopted by machine learning practitioners for a multitude of tasks. Given that such models are publicly available, relying on their use as backbone models for downstream tasks might result in high vulnerability to adversarial attacks crafted with the same public model. In this work, we propose Robustness Tokens, a novel approach specific to the transformer architecture that fine-tunes a few additional private tokens with low computational requirements instead of tuning model parameters as done in traditional adversarial training. We show that Robustness Tokens make Vision Transformer models significantly more robust to white-box adversarial attacks while also retaining the original downstream performances."

展开摘要

"Robust fine-tuning aims to adapt a vision-language model to downstream tasks while preserving its zero-shot capabilities on unseen data. Recent studies have introduced fine-tuning strategies to improve in-distribution (ID) performance on the downstream tasks while minimizing deterioration in out-of-distribution (OOD) performance on unseen data. This balance is achieved either by aligning the fine-tuned representations with the pre-trained ones or by constraining significant deviations in fine-tuned weights compared to the pre-trained model. In the latter approach, the regularization term is uniformly applied to all parameters. Our work proposes selectively applying the regularization term based on the importance of each neuron to the fine-tuning dataset. To this end, we have developed an importance-score metric to quantify each neurons’ importance to the downstream task, which we then leverage to develop two fine-tuning strategies: importance-guided selective fine-tuning and importance-guided regularization. Our approach can be used concurrently with representation space-based methods, outperforming other approaches based on parameter space. We achieve improvements over the state-of-the-art on standard robust fine-tuning benchmarks across various datasets, in both full-shot and low-shot settings."

Robust-Wide: Robust Watermarking against Instruction-driven Image Editing

展开摘要

"Instruction-driven image editing allows users to quickly edit an image according to text instructions in a forward pass. Nevertheless, malicious users can easily exploit this technique to create fake images, which could cause a crisis of trust and harm the rights of the original image owners. Watermarking is a common solution to trace such malicious behavior. Unfortunately, instruction-driven image editing can significantly change the watermarked image at the semantic level, making current state-of-the-art watermarking methods ineffective. To remedy it, we propose , the first robust watermarking methodology against instruction-driven image editing. Specifically, we follow the classic structure of deep robust watermarking, consisting of the encoder, noise layer, and decoder. To achieve robustness against semantic distortions, we introduce a novel Partial Instruction-driven Denoising Sampling Guidance () module, which consists of a large variety of instruction injections and substantial modifications of images at different semantic levels. With , the encoder tends to embed the watermark into more robust and semantic-aware areas, which remains in existence even after severe image editing. Experiments demonstrate that can effectively extract the watermark from the edited image with a low bit error rate of nearly 2.6% for 64-bit watermark messages. Meanwhile, it only induces a neglectable influence on the visual quality and editability of the original images. blackMoreover, holds general robustness against different sampling configurations and other popular image editing methods such as ControlNet-InstructPix2Pix, MagicBrush, Inpainting, and DDIM Inversion. Robust Zero-Shot Crowd Counting and Localization with Adaptive Resolution SAM

Jia Wan, Qiangqiang Wu, Wei Lin, Antoni Chan

展开摘要

"The existing crowd counting models require extensive training data, which is time-consuming to annotate. To tackle this issue, we propose a simple yet effective crowd counting method by utilizing the Segment-Everything-Everywhere Model (SEEM), an adaptation of the Segmentation Anything Model (SAM), to generate pseudo-labels for training crowd counting models. However, our initial investigation reveals that SEEM’s performance in dense crowd scenes is limited, primarily due to the omission of many persons in high-density areas. To overcome this limitation, we propose an adaptive resolution SEEM to handle the scale variations, occlusions, and overlapping of people within crowd scenes. Alongside this, we introduce a robust localization method, based on Gaussian Mixture Models, for predicting the head positions in the predicted people masks. Given the mask and point pseudo-labels, we propose a robust loss function, which is designed to exclude uncertain regions based on SEEM’s predictions, thereby enhancing the training process of the counting network. Finally, we propose an iterative method for generating pseudo-labels. This method aims at improving the quality of the segmentation masks by identifying more tiny persons in high-density regions, which are often missed in the first pseudo-labeling iteration. Overall, our proposed method achieves the best unsupervised performance in crowd counting, while also being comparable to some classic supervised fully methods. This makes it a highly effective and versatile tool for crowd counting, especially in situations where labeled data is not available."

Robust Nearest Neighbors for Source-Free Domain Adaptation under Class Distribution Shift

Antonio Tejero-De-Pablos, Riku Togashi, Mayu Otani, Shin'ichi Satoh

展开摘要

"The goal of source-free domain adaptation (SFDA) is retraining a model fit on data from a source domain (drawings) to classify data from a target domain (photos) employing only the target samples. In addition to the domain shift, in a realistic scenario, the number of samples per class on source and target would also differ (class distribution shift, or CDS). Dealing label-less with CDS via target data only is challenging, and thus previous methods assume no class imbalance in the source data. We study the SFDA pipeline and, for the first time, propose a SFDA method that can deal with class imbalance in both source and target data. While pseudolabeling is the core technique in SFDA to estimate the distribution of the target data, it relies on nearest neighbors, which makes it sensitive to class distribution shifts (CDS). We are able to calculate robust nearest neighbors by leveraging additional generic features free of the source model’s CDS bias. This provides a “second-opinion” regarding which nearest neighbors are more suitable for adaptation. We evaluate our method using various types of features, datasets and tasks, outperforming previous methods in SFDA under CDS. Our code is available at https://github.com/ CyberAgentAILab/Robust_Nearest_Neighbors_SFDA-CDS."

Robust Multimodal Learning via Representation Decoupling

展开摘要

"Multimodal learning robust to missing modality has attracted increasing attention due to its practicality. Existing methods tend to address it by learning a common subspace representation for different modality combinations. However, we reveal that they are sub-optimal due to their implicit constraint on intra-class representation. Specifically, the sample with different modalities within the same class will be forced to learn representations in the same direction. This hinders the model from capturing modality-specific information, resulting in insufficient learning. To this end, we propose a novel Decoupled Multimodal Representation Network (DMRNet) to assist robust multimodal learning. Specifically, DMRNet models the input from different modality combinations as a probabilistic distribution instead of a fixed point in the latent space, and samples embeddings from the distribution for the prediction module to calculate the task loss. As a result, the direction constraint from the loss minimization is blocked by the sampled representation. This relaxes the constraint on the inference representation and enables the model to capture the specific information for different modality combinations. Furthermore, we introduce a hard combination regularizer to prevent DMRNet from unbalanced training by guiding it to pay more attention to hard modality combinations. Finally, extensive experiments on multimodal classification and segmentation tasks demonstrate that the proposed DMRNet outperforms the state-of-the-art significantly. Robust Incremental Structure-from-Motion with Hybrid Features

展开摘要

"Structure-from-Motion (SfM) has become a ubiquitous tool for camera calibration and scene reconstruction with many downstream applications in computer vision and beyond. While the state-of-the-art SfM pipelines have reached a high level of maturity in well-textured and well-configured scenes over the last decades, they still fall short of robustly solving the SfM problem in challenging scenarios. In particular, weakly textured scenes and poorly constrained configurations oftentimes cause catastrophic failures or large errors for the primarily keypoint-based pipelines. In these scenarios, line segments are often abundant and can offer complementary geometric constraints. Their large spatial extent and typically structured configurations lead to stronger geometric constraints as compared to traditional keypoint-based methods. In this work, we introduce an incremental SfM system that, in addition to points, leverages lines and their structured geometric relations. Our technical contributions span the entire pipeline (mapping, triangulation, registration) and we integrate these into a comprehensive end-to-end SfM system that we share as an open-source software with the community. We also present the first analytical method to propagate uncertainties for 3D optimized lines via sensitivity analysis. Experiments show that our system is consistently more robust and accurate compared to the widely used point-based state of the art in SfM – achieving richer maps and more precise camera registrations, especially under challenging conditions. In addition, our uncertainty-aware localization module alone is able to consistently improve over the state of the art under both point-alone and hybrid setups."

Robust Fitting on a Gate Quantum Computer

Frances F Yang*, Michele Sasdelli, Tat-Jun Chin

展开摘要

"Gate quantum computers generate significant interest due to their potential to solve certain difficult problems such as prime factorization in polynomial time. Computer vision researchers have long been attracted to the power of quantum computers. Robust fitting, which is fundamentally important to many computer vision pipelines, has recently been shown to be amenable to gate quantum computing. The previous proposed solution was to compute Boolean influence as a measure of outlyingness using the Bernstein-Vazirani quantum circuit. However, the method assumed a quantum implementation of an ℓ∞ feasibility test, which has not been demonstrated. In this paper, we take a big stride towards quantum robust fitting: we propose a quantum circuit to solve the ℓ∞ feasibility test in the 1D case, which allows to demonstrate for the first time quantum robust fitting on a real gate quantum computer, the IonQ Aria. We also show how 1D Boolean influences can be accumulated to compute Boolean influences for higher-dimensional non-linear models, which we experimentally validate on real benchmark datasets."

Robust Calibration of Large Vision-Language Adapters

展开摘要

"This paper addresses the critical issue of miscalibration in CLIP-based model adaptation, particularly in the challenging scenario of out-of-distribution (OOD) samples, which has been overlooked in the existing literature on CLIP adaptation. We empirically demonstrate that popular CLIP adaptation approaches, such as Adapters, Prompt Learning, and Test-Time Adaptation, substantially degrade the calibration capabilities of the zero-shot baseline in the presence of distributional drift. We identify the increase in logit ranges as the underlying cause of miscalibration of CLIP adaptation methods, contrasting with previous work on calibrating fully-supervised models. Motivated by these observations, we present a simple and model-agnostic solution to mitigate miscalibration, by scaling the logit range of each sample to its zero-shot prediction logits. We explore three different alternatives to achieve this, which can be either integrated during adaptation or directly used at inference time. Comprehensive experiments on popular OOD classification benchmarks demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approaches in mitigating miscalibration while maintaining discriminative performance, whose improvements are consistent across the three families of these increasingly popular approaches. The code is publicly available at: https://github.com/ Bala93/CLIPCalib ."

Robo-ABC: Affordance Generalization Beyond Categories via Semantic Correspondence for Robot Manipulation

展开摘要

"Enabling robotic manipulation that generalizes to out-of-distribution scenes is a crucial step toward the open-world embodied intelligence. For human beings, this ability is rooted in the understanding of semantic correspondence among different objects, which helps to naturally transfer the interaction experience of familiar objects to novel ones. Although robots lack such a reservoir of interaction experience, the vast availability of human videos on the Internet may serve as a resource, from which we extract an affordance memory of contact points. Inspired by the natural way humans think, we propose : when confronted with unfamiliar objects that require generalization, the robot can acquire affordance by retrieving objects that share visual and semantic similarities from the memory, then mapping the contact points of the retrieved objects to the new object. While such correspondence may present formidable challenges at first glance, recent research finds it naturally arises from pre-trained diffusion models, enabling affordance mapping even across disparate categories. Through the framework, robots can generalize to manipulate out-of-category objects in a zero-shot manner without any manual annotation, additional training, part segmentation, pre-coded knowledge, or viewpoint restrictions. Quantitatively, significantly enhances the accuracy of visual affordance inference by a large margin of 28.7% compared to state-of-the-art (SOTA) end-to-end affordance models. We also conduct real-world experiments of cross-category object-grasping and achieve a success rate of 85.7%, proving ’s capacity for real-world tasks."

RoadPainter: Points Are Ideal Navigators for Topology transformER

展开摘要

"Topology reasoning aims to provide a precise understanding of road scenes, enabling autonomous systems to identify safe and efficient routes. In this paper, we present RoadPainter, an innovative approach for detecting and reasoning the topology of lane centerlines using multi-view images. The core concept behind RoadPainter is to extract a set of points from each centerline mask to improve the accuracy of centerline prediction. We start by implementing a transformer decoder that integrates a hybrid attention mechanism and a real-virtual separation strategy to predict coarse lane centerlines and establish topological associations. Then, we generate centerline instance masks guided by the centerline points from the transformer decoder. Moreover, we derive an additional set of points from each mask and combine them with previously detected centerline points for further refinement. Additionally, we introduce an optional module that incorporates a Standard Definition (SD) map to further optimize centerline detection and enhance topological reasoning performance. Experimental evaluations on the OpenLane-V2 dataset demonstrate the state-of-the-art performance of RoadPainter."

RoScenes: A Large-scale Multi-view 3D Dataset for Roadside Perception

展开摘要

"We introduce RoScenes, the largest multi-view roadside perception dataset, which aims to shed light on the development of vision-centric Bird’s Eye View (BEV) approaches for more challenging traffic scenes. The highlights of RoScenes include significantly large perception area, full scene coverage and crowded traffic. More specifically, our dataset achieves surprising 21.13M 3D annotations within 64,000 m2 . To relieve the expensive costs of roadside 3D labeling, we present a novel BEV-to-3D joint annotation pipeline to efficiently collect such a large volume of data. After that, we organize a comprehensive study for current BEV methods on RoScenes in terms of effectiveness and efficiency. Tested methods suffer from the vast perception area and variation of sensor layout across scenes, resulting in performance levels falling below expectations. To this end, we propose RoBEV that incorporates feature-guided position embedding for effective 2D-3D feature assignment. With its help, our method outperforms state-of-the-art by a large margin without extra computational overhead on validation set. Our dataset and devkit are at https://roscenes.github.io."

RoGUENeRF: A Robust Geometry-Consistent Universal Enhancer for NeRF

展开摘要

"Recent advances in neural rendering have enabled highly photorealistic 3D scene reconstruction and novel view synthesis. Despite this progress, current state-of-the-art methods struggle to reconstruct high frequency detail, due to factors such as a low-frequency bias of radiance fields and inaccurate camera calibration. One approach to mitigate this issue is to enhance images post-rendering. 2D enhancers can be pre-trained to recover some detail but are agnostic to scene geometry and do not easily generalize to new distributions of image degradation. Conversely, existing 3D enhancers are able to transfer detail from nearby training images in a generalizable manner, but suffer from inaccurate camera calibration and can propagate errors from the geometry into rendered images. We propose a neural rendering enhancer, , which exploits the best of both paradigms. Our method is pre-trained to learn a general enhancer while also leveraging information from nearby training images via robust 3D alignment and geometry-aware fusion. Our approach restores high-frequency textures while maintaining geometric consistency and is also robust to inaccurate camera calibration. We show that substantially enhances the rendering quality of a wide range of neural rendering baselines, e.g. improving the PSNR of MipNeRF360 by 0.63dB and Nerfacto by 1.34dB on the real world 360v2 dataset. RoDUS: Robust Decomposition of Static and Dynamic Elements in Urban Scenes

展开摘要

"The task of separating dynamic objects from static environments using NeRFs has been widely studied in recent years. However, capturing large-scale scenes still poses a challenge due to their complex geometric structures and unconstrained dynamics. Without the help of 3D motion cues, previous methods often require simplified setups with slow camera motion and only a few/single dynamic actors, leading to suboptimal solutions in most urban setups. To overcome such limitations, we present RoDUS, a pipeline for decomposing static and dynamic elements in urban scenes, with thoughtfully separated NeRF models for moving and non-moving components. Our approach utilizes a robust kernel-based initialization coupled with 4D semantic information to selectively guide the learning process. This strategy enables accurate capturing of the dynamics in the scene, resulting in reduced floating artifacts in the reconstructed background, all by using self-supervision. Notably, experimental evaluations on KITTI-360 and Pandaset datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our method in decomposing challenging urban scenes into precise static and dynamic components."

Risk-Aware Self-Consistent Imitation Learning for Trajectory Planning in Autonomous Driving

Yixuan Fan*, Ya-Li Li, Shengjin Wang

展开摘要

"Planning for the ego vehicle is the ultimate goal of autono-mous driving. Although deep learning-based methods have been widely applied to predict future trajectories of other agents in traffic scenes, directly using them to plan for the ego vehicle is often unsatisfactory. This is due to misaligned objectives during training and deployment: a planner that only aims to imitate human driver trajectories is insufficient to accomplish driving tasks well. We argue that existing training processes may not endow models with an understanding of how the physical world evolves. To address this gap, we propose RaSc, which stands for Risk-aware Self-consistent imitation learning. RaSc not only imitates driving trajectories, but also learns the motivations behind human driver behaviors (to be risk-aware) and the consequences of its own actions (by being self-consistent). These two properties stem from our novel prediction branch and training objectives regarding Time-To-Collision (TTC). Moreover, we enable the model to better mine hard samples during training by checking its self-consistency. Our experiments on the large-scale real-world nuPlan dataset demonstrate that RaSc outperforms previous state-of-the-art learning-based methods, in both open-loop and, more importantly, closed-loop settings."
