SweepNet: Unsupervised Learning Shape Abstraction via Neural Sweepers

Mingrui Zhao, Yizhi Wang, Fenggen Yu, Changqing Zou, Ali Mahdavi-Amiri

展开摘要

"Shape abstraction is an important task for simplifying complex geometric structures while retaining essential features. Sweep surfaces, commonly found in human-made objects, aid in this process by effectively capturing and representing object geometry, thereby facilitating abstraction. In this paper, we introduce , a novel approach to shape abstraction through sweep surfaces. We propose an effective parameterization for sweep surfaces, utilizing superellipses for profile representation and B-spline curves for the axis. This compact representation, requiring as few as 14 float numbers, facilitates intuitive and interactive editing while preserving shape details effectively. Additionally, by introducing a differentiable neural sweeper and an encoder-decoder architecture, we demonstrate the ability to predict sweep surface representations without supervision. We show the superiority of our model through several quantitative and qualitative experiments throughout the paper. Our code is available at https://mingrui-zhao.github. io/SweepNet/."

展开摘要

"Effective editing of personal content holds a pivotal role in enabling individuals to express their creativity, weaving captivating narratives within their visual stories, and elevate the overall quality and impact of their visual content. Therefore, in this work, we introduce , a novel framework that can swap any objects in an image with personalized concepts given by the reference, while keeping the context unchanged. Compared with existing methods for personalized subject swapping, has three unique advantages: (1) precise control of arbitrary objects and parts rather than the main subject, (2) more faithful preservation of context pixels, (3) better adaptation of the personalized concept to the image. First, we propose targeted variable swapping to apply region control over latent feature maps and swap masked variables for faithful context preservation and initial semantic concept swapping. Then, we introduce appearance adaptation, to seamlessly adapt the semantic concept into the original image in terms of target location, shape, style, and content during the image generation process. Extensive results on both human and automatic evaluation demonstrate significant improvements of our approach over baseline methods on personalized swapping. Furthermore, shows its precise and faithful swapping abilities across single object, multiple objects, partial object, and cross-domain swapping tasks. also achieves great performance on text-based swapping and tasks beyond swapping such as object insertion."

展开摘要

"Reconstructing the high-fidelity surface from multi-view images, especially sparse images, is a critical and practical task that has attracted widespread attention in recent years. However, existing methods are impeded by the memory constraint or the requirement of ground-truth depths and cannot recover satisfactory geometric details. To this end, we propose SuRF, a new Surface-centric framework that incorporates a new Region sparsification based on a matching Field, achieving good trade-offs between performance, efficiency and scalability. To our knowledge, this is the first unsupervised method achieving end-to-end sparsification powered by the introduced matching field, which leverages the weight distribution to efficiently locate the boundary regions containing surface. Instead of predicting an SDF value for each voxel, we present a new region sparsification approach to sparse the volume by judging whether the voxel is inside the surface region. In this way, our model can exploit higher frequency features around the surface with less memory and computational consumption. Extensive experiments on multiple benchmarks containing complex large-scale scenes show that our reconstructions exhibit high-quality details and achieve new state-of-the-art performance, i.e., 46% improvements with 80% less memory consumption. Code is available at https://github.com/prstrive/SuRF."

Surface Reconstruction for 3D Gaussian Splatting via Local Structural Hints

展开摘要

"This paper presents a novel approach for surface mesh reconstruction from 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) [?], a technique renowned for its efficiency in novel view synthesis but challenged for surface reconstruction. The key obstacle is the lack of geometry hints to regulate the optimization of millions of unorganized Gaussian blobs to align to the true surface. This paper introduces local structural hints during training to address the challenge. We first leverage the prior knowledge from monocular normal and depth estimations to refine the covariance and mean of Gaussian primitives, enhancing their organization and providing crucial normal information for surface extraction. However, due to the highly discrete nature of Gaussian primitives, such geometry guidance remains insufficient for the alignment with the true surface. We then propose to construct a signed distance field by a moving least square (MLS) function over the Gaussians in each local region. More importantly, we further propose to jointly learn a neural implicit network to mimic and regularize the MLS function. The joint optimization helps the optimization of Gaussian Splatting towards accurate surface alignment. Extensive experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our method in achieving superior mesh quality compared with the SoTA surface reconstruction for 3DGS. 展开摘要

"We present Surf-D, a novel method for generating high-quality 3D shapes as Surfaces with arbitrary topologies using Diffusion models. Previous methods explored shape generation with different representations and they suffer from limited topologies and poor geometry details. To generate high-quality surfaces of arbitrary topologies, we use the Unsigned Distance Field (UDF) as our surface representation to accommodate arbitrary topologies. Furthermore, we propose a new pipeline that employs a point-based AutoEncoder to learn a compact and continuous latent space for accurately encoding UDF and support high-resolution mesh extraction. We further show that our new pipeline significantly outperforms the prior approaches to learning the distance fields, such as the grid-based AutoEncoder, which is not scalable and incapable of learning accurate UDF. In addition, we adopt a curriculum learning strategy to efficiently embed various surfaces. With the pretrained shape latent space, we employ a latent diffusion model to acquire the distribution of various shapes. Extensive experiments are presented on using Surf-D for unconditional generation, category conditional generation, image conditional generation, and text-to-shape tasks. The experiments demonstrate the superior performance of Surf-D in shape generation across multiple modalities as conditions. Visit our project page at https://yzmblog. github.io/projects/SurfD/."

Sur^2f: A Hybrid Representation for High-Quality and Efficient Surface Reconstruction from Multi-view Images

Zhangjin Huang, Zhihao Liang, Kui Jia

展开摘要

"Multi-view surface reconstruction is an ill-posed, inverse problem in 3D vision research. It involves modeling the geometry and appearance with appropriate surface representations. Most of the existing methods rely either on explicit meshes, using surface rendering of meshes for reconstruction, or on implicit field functions, using volume rendering of the fields for reconstruction. The two types of representations in fact have their respective merits. In this work, we propose a new hybrid representation, termed Sur2 f, aiming to better benefit from both representations in a complementary manner. Technically, we learn two parallel streams of an implicit signed distance field and an explicit surrogate surface (Sur2 f) mesh, and unify volume rendering of the implicit signed distance function (SDF) and surface rendering of the surrogate mesh with a shared, neural shader; the unified shading promotes their convergence to the same, underlying surface. We synchronize learning of the surrogate mesh by driving its deformation with functions induced from the implicit SDF. In addition, the synchronized surrogate mesh enables surface-guided volume sampling, which greatly improves the sampling efficiency per ray in volume rendering. We conduct thorough experiments showing that Sur2 f outperforms existing reconstruction methods and surface representations, including hybrid ones, in terms of both recovery quality and recovery efficiency."

Superpixel-informed Implicit Neural Representation for Multi-Dimensional Data

展开摘要

"Recently, implicit neural representations (INRs) have attracted increasing attention for multi-dimensional data recovery. However, INRs simply map coordinates via a multi-layer perceptron (MLP) to corresponding values, ignoring the inherent semantic information of the data. To leverage semantic priors from the data, we propose a novel Superpixel-informed INR (S-INR). Specifically, we suggest utilizing generalized superpixel instead of pixel as an alternative basic unit of INR for multi-dimensional data (e.g., images and weather data). The coordinates of generalized superpixels are first fed into exclusive attention-based MLPs, and then the intermediate results interact with a shared dictionary matrix. The elaborately designed modules in S-INR allow us to ingenuously exploit the semantic information within and across generalized superpixels. Extensive experiments on various applications validate the effectiveness and efficacy of our S-INR compared to state-of-the-art INR methods."

展开摘要

"We present a simple, modular, and generic method that upsamples coarse 3D models by adding geometric and appearance details. While generative 3D models now exist, they do not yet match the quality of their counterparts in image and video domains. We demonstrate that it is possible to directly repurpose existing (pre-trained) video models for 3D super-resolution and thus sidestep the problem of the shortage of large repositories of high-quality 3D training models. We describe how to repurpose video upsampling models – which are not 3D consistent – and combine them with 3D consolidation to produce 3D-consistent results. As output, we produce high-quality Gaussian Splat models, which are object-centric and effective. Our method is category-agnostic and can be easily incorporated into existing 3D workflows. We evaluate our proposed on a variety of 3D inputs, which are diverse both in terms of complexity and representation (e.g., Gaussian Splats or NeRFs), and demonstrate that our simple method significantly improves the fidelity of current generative 3D models. 展开摘要

"Neural Architecture Search (NAS) for Federated Learning (FL) is an emerging field. It automates the design and training of Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) when data cannot be centralized due to privacy, communication costs, or regulatory restrictions. Recent federated NAS methods not only reduce manual effort but also help achieve higher accuracy than traditional FL methods like FedAvg. Despite the success, existing federated NAS methods still fall short in satisfying diverse deployment targets common in on-device inference including hardware, latency budgets, or variable battery levels. Most federated NAS methods search for only a limited range of neuro-architectural patterns, repeat them in a DNN, thereby restricting achievable performance. Moreover, these methods incur prohibitive training costs to satisfy deployment targets. They perform the training and search of DNN architectures repeatedly for each case. addresses these challenges by decoupling the training and search in federated NAS. co-trains a large number of diverse DNN architectures contained inside one supernet in the FL setting. Post-training, clients perform NAS locally to find specialized DNNs by extracting different parts of the trained supernet with no additional training. takes O(1) (instead of O(N )) cost to find specialized DNN architectures in FL for any N deployment targets. As part of , we introduce —a novel FL training algorithm that performs multi-objective federated optimization of DNN architectures (≈ 5 ∗ 108 ) under different client data distributions. achieves upto 37.7% higher accuracy or upto 8.13x reduction in MACs than existing federated NAS methods. Subspace Prototype Guidance for Mitigating Class Imbalance in Point Cloud Semantic Segmentation

展开摘要

"Point cloud semantic segmentation can significantly enhance the perception of an intelligent agent. Nevertheless, the discriminative capability of the segmentation network is influenced by the quantity of samples available for different categories. To mitigate the cognitive bias induced by class imbalance, this paper introduces a novel method, namely subspace prototype guidance (SPG), to guide the training of segmentation network. Specifically, the point cloud is initially separated into independent point sets by category to provide initial conditions for the generation of feature subspaces. The auxiliary branch which consists of an encoder and a projection head maps these point sets into separate feature subspaces. Subsequently, the feature prototypes which are extracted from the current separate subspaces and then combined with prototypes of historical subspaces guide the feature space of main branch to enhance the discriminability of features of minority categories. The prototypes derived from the feature space of main branch are also employed to guide the training of the auxiliary branch, forming a supervisory loop to maintain consistent convergence of the entire network. The experiments conducted on the large public benchmarks (i.e. S3DIS, ScanNet v2, ScanNet200, Toronto-3D) and collected real-world data illustrate that the proposed method significantly improves the segmentation performance and surpasses the state-of-the-art method. 展开摘要

"Despite the burst of innovative methods for controlling the diffusion process, effectively controlling image styles in text-to-image generation remains a challenging task. Many adapter-based methods impose image representation conditions on the denoising process to accomplish image control. However these conditions are not aligned with the word embedding space, leading to interference between image and text control conditions and the potential loss of semantic information from the text prompt. Addressing this issue involves two key challenges. Firstly, how to inject the style representation without compromising the effectiveness of text representation in control. Secondly, how to obtain the accurate style representation from a single reference image. To tackle these challenges, we introduce StyleTokenizer, a zero-shot style control image generation method that aligns style representation with text representation using a style tokenizer. This alignment effectively minimizes the impact on the effectiveness of text prompts. Furthermore, we collect a well-labeled style dataset named Style30k to train a style feature extractor capable of accurately representing style while excluding other content information. Experimental results demonstrate that our method fully grasps the style characteristics of the reference image, generating appealing images that are consistent with both the target image style and text prompt. The code and dataset are available at https://github.com/alipay/style-tokenizer."

StyleCity: Large-Scale 3D Urban Scenes Stylization

展开摘要

"Creating large-scale virtual urban scenes with variant styles is inherently challenging. To facilitate prototypes of virtual production and bypass the need for complex materials and lighting setups, we introduce the first vision-and-text-driven texture stylization system for large-scale urban scenes, StyleCity. Taking an image and text as references, StyleCity stylizes a 3D textured mesh of a large-scale urban scene in a semantics-aware fashion and generates a harmonic omnidirectional sky background. To achieve that, we propose to stylize a neural texture field by transferring 2D vision-and-text priors to 3D globally and locally. During 3D stylization, we progressively scale the planned training views of the input 3D scene at different levels in order to preserve high-quality scene content. We then optimize the scene style globally by adapting the scale of the style image with the scale of the training views. Moreover, we enhance local semantics consistency by the semantics-aware style loss which is crucial for photo-realistic stylization. Besides texture stylization, we further adopt a generative diffusion model to synthesize a style-consistent omnidirectional sky image, which offers a more immersive atmosphere and assists the semantic stylization process. The stylized neural texture field can be baked into an arbitrary-resolution texture, enabling seamless integration into conventional rendering pipelines and significantly easing the virtual production prototyping process. Extensive experiments demonstrate our stylized scenes’ superiority in qualitative and quantitative performance and user preferences. Project page: https://chenyingshu.github.io/stylecity3d."

展开摘要

"Deep learning-based image generation has seen significant advancements with diffusion models, notably improving the quality of generated images. Despite these developments, generating images with unseen characteristics beneficial for downstream tasks has received limited attention. To bridge this gap, we propose Style-Extracting Diffusion Models, featuring two conditioning mechanisms. Specifically, we utilize 1) a style conditioning mechanism which allows to inject style information of previously unseen images during image generation and 2) a content conditioning which can be targeted to a downstream task, e.g., layout for segmentation. We introduce a trainable style encoder to extract style information from images, and an aggregation block that merges style information from multiple style inputs. This architecture enables the generation of images with unseen styles in a zero-shot manner, by leveraging styles from unseen images, resulting in more diverse generations. In this work, we use the image layout as target condition and first show the capability of our method on a natural image dataset as a proof-of-concept. We further demonstrate its versatility in histopathology, where we combine prior knowledge about tissue composition and unannotated data to create diverse synthetic images with known layouts. This allows us to generate additional synthetic data to train a segmentation network in a semi-supervised fashion. We verify the added value of the generated images by showing improved segmentation results and lower performance variability between patients when synthetic images are included during segmentation training. The code of the method is publicly available at https://github.com/OettlM/ STEDM."

"We present Structured Neural Radiance Field (Structured-NeRF) for indoor scene representaion based on a novel hierarchical scene graph structure to organize the neural radiance field. Existing object-centric methods focus only on the inherent characteristics of objects, while overlooking the semantic and physical relationships between them. Our scene graph is adept at managing the complex real-world correlation between objects within a scene, enabling functionality beyond novel view synthesis, such as scene re-arrangement. Based on the hierarchical structure, we introduce the optimization strategy based on semantic and physical relationships, thus simplifying the operations involved in scene editing and ensuring both efficiency and accuracy. Moreover, we conduct shadow rendering on objects to further intensify the realism of the rendered images. Experimental results demonstrate our structured representation not only achieves state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance in object-level and scene-level rendering, but also advances downstream applications in union with LLM/VLM, such as automatic and instruction/image conditioned scene re-arrangement, thereby extending the NeRF to interactive editing conveniently and controllably."

"Recent 3D human generative models have achieved remarkable progress by learning 3D-aware GANs from 2D images. However, existing 3D human generative methods model humans in a compact 1D latent space, ignoring the articulated structure and semantics of human body topology. In this paper, we explore more expressive and higher-dimensional latent space for 3D human modeling and propose , a diffusion-based unconditional 3D human generative model, which is learned from 2D images. solves the challenges imposed due to the high-dimensional growth of latent space with three key designs: 1) A semantic structured latent space defined on the dense surface manifold of a statistical human body template. 2) A structured 3D-aware auto-decoder that factorizes the global latent space into several semantic body parts parameterized by a set of conditional structured local NeRFs anchored to the body template, which embeds the properties learned from the 2D training data and can be decoded to render view-consistent humans under different poses and clothing styles. 3) A structured latent diffusion model for generative human appearance sampling. Extensive experiments validate ’s state-of-the-art generation performance and illustrate the expressiveness of the structured latent space over the well-adopted 1D latent space. Stripe Observation Guided Inference Cost-free Attention Mechanism

展开摘要

"Structural re-parameterization (SRP) is a novel technique series that boosts neural networks without introducing any computational costs in inference stage. The existing SRP methods have successfully considered many architectures, such as normalizations, convolutions, etc. However, the widely used but computationally expensive attention modules cannot be directly implemented by SRP due to the inherent multiplicative manner and the modules’ output is input-dependent during inference. In this paper, we statistically discover a counter-intuitive phenomenon Stripe Observation in various settings, which reveals that channel attention values consistently approach some constant vectors during training. It inspires us to propose a novel attention-alike SRP, called ASR, that allows us to achieve SRP for a given network while enjoying the effectiveness of the attention mechanism. Extensive experiments conducted on several standard benchmarks show the effectiveness of ASR in generally improving the performance of various scenarios without any elaborated model crafting. We also provide experimental evidence for how the proposed ASR can enhance model performance. https: //github.com/zhongshsh/ASR."

Strike a Balance in Continual Panoptic Segmentation

展开摘要

"This study explores the emerging area of continual panoptic segmentation, highlighting three key balances. First, we introduce past-class backtrace distillation to balance the stability of existing knowledge with the adaptability to new information. This technique retraces the features associated with past classes based on the final label assignment results, performing knowledge distillation targeting these specific features from the previous model while allowing other features to flexibly adapt to new information. Additionally, we introduce a class-proportional memory strategy, which aligns the class distribution in the replay sample set with that of the historical training data. This strategy maintains a balanced class representation during replay, enhancing the utility of the limited-capacity replay sample set in recalling prior classes. Moreover, recognizing that replay samples are annotated only for the classes of their original step, we devise balanced anti-misguidance losses, which combat the impact of incomplete annotations without incurring classification bias. Building upon these innovations, we present a new method named Balanced Continual Panoptic Segmentation (BalConpas). Our evaluation on the challenging ADE20K dataset demonstrates its superior performance compared to existing state-of-the-art methods. 展开摘要

"This paper aims to tackle the problem of modeling dynamic urban streets for autonomous driving scenes. Recent methods extend NeRF by incorporating tracked vehicle poses to animate vehicles, enabling photo-realistic view synthesis of dynamic urban street scenes. However, significant limitations are their slow training and rendering speed. We introduce Street Gaussians, a new explicit scene representation that tackles these limitations. Specifically, the dynamic urban scene is represented as a set of point clouds equipped with semantic logits and 3D Gaussians, each associated with either a foreground vehicle or the background. To model the dynamics of foreground object vehicles, each object point cloud is optimized with optimizable tracked poses, along with a 4D spherical harmonics model for the dynamic appearance. The explicit representation allows easy composition of object vehicles and background, which in turn allows for scene editing operations and rendering at 135 FPS (1066 all_papers.txt decode_tex_noligatures.sh decode_tex_noligatures.sh~ decode_tex.sh decode_tex.sh~ ECCV_abstracts.csv ECCV_abstracts_good.csv ECCV.csv ECCV.csv~ ECCV_new.csv generate_list.sh generate_list.sh~ generate_overview.sh gen.sh gen.sh~ HOWTO HOWTO~ pdflist pdflist.copied RCS snippet.html 1600 resolution) within half an hour of training. "This paper introduces the Stream Query Denoising (SQD) strategy, a novel and general approach for high-definition map (HD-map) construction. SQD is designed to improve the modeling capability of map elements by learning temporal consistency. Specifically, SQD involves the process of denoising the queries, which are generated by the noised ground truth of the previous frame. This process aims to reconstruct the ground truth of the current frame during training. Our method can be applied to both static and temporal methods, showing the great effectiveness of SQD strategy. Straightforward Layer-wise Pruning for More Efficient Visual Adaptation

Ruizi Han, Jinglei Tang

展开摘要

"Parameter-efficient transfer learning (PETL) aims to adapt large pre-trained models using limited parameters. While most PETL approaches update the added parameters and freeze pre-trained weights during training, the minimal impact of task-specific deep layers on cross-domain data poses a challenge as PETL cannot modify them, resulting in redundant model structures. Structural pruning effectively reduces model redundancy; however, common pruning methods often lead to an excessive increase in stored parameters due to varying pruning structures based on pruning rates and data. Recognizing the storage parameter volume issue, we propose a Straightforward layer-wise pruning method, called SLS, for pruning PETL-transferred models. By evaluating parameters from a feature perspective of each layer and utilizing clustering metrics to assess current parameters based on clustering phenomena in low-dimensional space obtained through t-SNE, SLS facilitates informed pruning decisions. Our study reveals that layer-wise pruning, with a focus on storing pruning indices, addresses storage volume concerns. Notably, mainstream Layer-wise pruning methods may not be suitable for assessing layer importance in PETL-transferred models, where the majority of parameters are pre-trained and have limited relevance to downstream datasets. Comparative analysis against state-of-the-art PETL methods demonstrates that the pruned model achieved a notable balance between model throughput and accuracy. Moreover, SLS effectively reduces storage overhead arising from varying pruned structures while enhancing the accuracy and speed of pruned models compared to conventional pruning methods. The code is available at https://github.com/RuiZiHan/SLS."
