Textual Query-Driven Mask Transformer for Domain Generalized Segmentation

Byeonghyun Pak, Byeongju Woo, Sunghwan Kim, Dae-hwan Kim, Hoseong Kim

展开摘要

"In this paper, we introduce a method to tackle Domain Generalized Semantic Segmentation (DGSS) by utilizing domain-invariant semantic knowledge from text embeddings of vision-language models. We employ the text embeddings as object queries within a transformer-based segmentation framework (textual object queries). These queries are regarded as a domain-invariant basis for pixel grouping in DGSS. To leverage the power of textual object queries, we introduce a novel framework named the textual query-driven mask transformer (tqdm). Our tqdm aims to (1) generate textual object queries that maximally encode domain-invariant semantics and (2) enhance the semantic clarity of dense visual features. Additionally, we suggest three regularization losses to improve the efficacy of tqdm by aligning between visual and textual features. By utilizing our method, the model can comprehend inherent semantic information for classes of interest, enabling it to generalize to extreme domains (, sketch style). Our tqdm achieves 68.9 mIoU on GTA5→Cityscapes, outperforming the prior state-of-the-art method by 2.5 mIoU. The project page is available at https://byeonghyunpak.github.io/tqdm."

Textual Knowledge Matters: Cross-Modality Co-Teaching for Generalized Visual Class Discovery

展开摘要

"In this paper, we study the problem of Generalized Category Discovery (GCD), which aims to cluster unlabeled data from both known and unknown categories using the knowledge of labeled data from known categories. Current GCD methods rely on only visual cues, which however neglect the multi-modality perceptive nature of human cognitive processes in discovering novel visual categories. To address this, we propose a two-phase TextGCD framework to accomplish multi-modality GCD by exploiting powerful Visual-Language Models. TextGCD mainly includes a retrieval-based text generation (RTG) phase and a cross-modality co-teaching (CCT) phase. First, RTG constructs a visual lexicon using category tags from diverse datasets and attributes from Large Language Models, generating descriptive texts for images in a retrieval manner. Second, CCT leverages disparities between textual and visual modalities to foster mutual learning, thereby enhancing visual GCD. In addition, we design an adaptive class aligning strategy to ensure the alignment of category perceptions between modalities as well as a soft-voting mechanism to integrate multi-modality cues. Experiments on eight datasets show the large superiority of our approach over state-of-the-art methods. Notably, our approach outperforms the best competitor, by 7.7% and 10.8% in All accuracy on ImageNet-1k and CUB, respectively. Code is available at https://github.com/HaiyangZheng/TextGCD."

展开摘要

"Current methodologies have achieved notable success in the closed-set visual information extraction (VIE) task, while the exploration into open-vocabulary settings is comparatively underdeveloped, which is practical for individual users in terms of inferring information across documents of diverse types. Existing proposal solutions, including named entity recognition methods and large language model-based methods, fall short in processing the unlimited range of open-vocabulary keys and missing explicit layout modeling. This paper introduces a novel method for tackling the given challenge by transforming the process of categorizing text tokens into a task of locating regions based on given queries also called textual grounding. Particularly, we take this a step further by pairing open-vocabulary key language embedding with corresponding grounded text visual embedding. We design a document-tailored grounding framework by incorporating layout-aware context learning and document-tailored two-stage pre-training, which significantly improves the model’s understanding of documents. Our method outperforms current proposal solutions on the SVRD benchmark for the open-vocabulary VIE task, offering lower costs and faster inference speed. Specifically, our method infers 20× faster than the QwenVL model and achieves an improvement of 24.3% in the F-score metric."

展开摘要

"For a given scene, humans can easily reason for the locations and pose to place objects. Designing a computational model to reason about these affordances poses a significant challenge, mirroring the intuitive reasoning abilities of humans. This work tackles the problem of realistic human insertion in a given background scene termed as Semantic Human Placement. This task is extremely challenging given the diverse backgrounds, scale, and pose of the generated person and, finally, the identity preservation of the person. We divide the problem into the following two stages i) learning semantic masks using text guidance for localizing regions in the image to place humans and ii) subject-conditioned inpainting to place a given subject adhering to the scene affordance within the semantic masks. For learning semantic masks, we leverage rich object-scene priors learned from the text-to-image generative models and optimize a novel parameterization of the semantic mask, eliminating the need for large-scale training. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first ones to provide an effective solution for realistic human placements in diverse real-world scenes. The proposed method can generate highly realistic scene compositions while preserving the background and subject identity. Further, we present results for several downstream tasks - scene hallucination from a single or multiple generated persons and text-based attribute editing. With extensive comparisons against strong baselines, we show the superiority of our method in realistic human placement."

展开摘要

"The complex traffic environment and various weather conditions make the collection of LiDAR data expensive and challenging. Achieving high-quality and controllable LiDAR data generation is urgently needed, controlling with text is a common practice, but there is little research in this field. To this end, we propose Text2LiDAR, the first efficient, diverse, and text-controllable LiDAR data generation model. Specifically, we design an equirectangular transformer architecture, utilizing the designed equirectangular attention to capture LiDAR features in a manner with data characteristics. Then, we design a control-signal embedding injector to efficiently integrate control signals through the global-to-focused attention mechanism. Additionally, we devise a frequency modulator to assist the model in recovering high-frequency details, ensuring the clarity of the generated point cloud. To foster development in the field and optimize text-controlled generation performance, we construct nuLiDARtext which offers diverse text descriptors for 34,149 LiDAR point clouds from 850 scenes. Experiments on uncontrolled and text-controlled generation in various forms on KITTI-360 and nuScenes datasets demonstrate the superiority of our approach. 展开摘要

"We introduce Style Tailoring, a recipe to finetune Latent Diffusion Models (LDMs) in a distinct domain with high visual quality, prompt alignment and scene diversity. We choose sticker image generation as the target domain, as the images significantly differ from photorealistic samples typically generated by large-scale LDMs. We start with a competent text-to-image model, like Emu, and show that relying on prompt engineering with a photorealistic model to generate stickers leads to poor prompt alignment and scene diversity. To overcome these drawbacks, we first finetune Emu on millions of sticker-like images collected using weak supervision to elicit diversity. Next, we curate Human-in-the-loop (HITL) Alignment and Style datasets from model generations, and finetune to improve prompt alignment and style alignment respectively. Sequential finetuning on these datasets poses a tradeoff between better style alignment and prompt alignment gains. To address this tradeoff, we propose a novel fine-tuning method called Style Tailoring, which jointly fits the content and style distribution and achieves best tradeoff. Evaluation results show our method improves visual quality by 14%, prompt alignment by 16.2% and scene diversity by 15.3%, compared to prompt engineering the base Emu model for stickers generation."

展开摘要

"Recent video masked autoencoder (MAE) works have designed improved masking algorithms focused on saliency. These works leverage visual cues such as motion to mask the most salient regions. However, the robustness of such visual cues depends on how often input videos match underlying assumptions. On the other hand, natural language description is an information dense representation of video that implicitly captures saliency without requiring modality-specific assumptions, and has not been explored yet for video MAE. To this end, we introduce a novel text-guided masking algorithm (TGM) that masks the video regions with highest correspondence to paired captions. Without leveraging any explicit visual cues for saliency, our TGM is competitive with state-of-the-art masking algorithms such as motion-guided masking. To further benefit from the semantics of natural language for masked reconstruction, we next introduce a unified framework for joint MAE and masked video-text contrastive learning. We show that across existing masking algorithms, unifying MAE and masked video-text contrastive learning improves downstream performance compared to pure MAE on a variety of video recognition tasks, especially for linear probe. Within this unified framework, our TGM achieves the best relative performance on five action recognition and one egocentric datasets, highlighting the complementary nature of natural language for masked video modeling."

展开摘要

"In this paper we present a text-conditioned video resampler (TCR) module that uses a pre-trained and frozen visual encoder and large language model (LLM) to process long video sequences for a task. TCR localises relevant visual features from the video given a text condition and provides them to a LLM to generate a text response. Due to its lightweight design and use of cross-attention, TCR can process more than 100 frames at a time with plain attention and without optimised implementations. We make the following contributions: (i) we design a transformer-based sampling architecture that can process long videos conditioned on a task, together with a training method that enables it to bridge pre-trained visual and language models; (ii) we identify tasks that could benefit from longer video perception; and (iii) we empirically validate its efficacy on a wide variety of evaluation tasks including NextQA, EgoSchema, and the EGO4D-LTA challenge."

Text-Anchored Score Composition: Tackling Condition Misalignment in Text-to-Image Diffusion Models

展开摘要

"Text-to-image diffusion models have advanced towards more controllable generation via supporting various additional conditions (e.g., depth map, bounding box) beyond text. However, these models are learned based on the premise of perfect alignment between the text and extra conditions. If this alignment is not satisfied, the final output could be either dominated by one condition, or ambiguity may arise, failing to meet user expectations. To address this issue, we present a training-free approach called Text-Anchored Score Composition (TASC) to further improve the controllability of existing models when provided with partially aligned conditions. The TASC firstly separates conditions based on pair relationships, computing the result individually for each pair. This ensures that each pair no longer has conflicting conditions. Then we propose an attention realignment operation to realign these independently calculated results via a cross-attention mechanism to avoid new conflicts when combining them back. Both qualitative and quantitative results demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach in handling unaligned conditions, which performs favorably against recent methods and more importantly adds flexibility to the controllable image generation process."

展开摘要

"This paper addresses the task of 3D clothed human generation from textural descriptions. Previous works usually encode the human body and clothes as a holistic model and generate the whole model in a single-stage optimization, which makes them struggle for clothing editing and meanwhile lose fine-grained control over the whole generation process. To solve this, we propose a layer-wise clothed human representation combined with a progressive optimization strategy, which produces clothing-disentangled 3D human models while providing control capacity for the generation process. The basic idea is progressively generating a minimal-clothed human body and layer-wise clothes. During clothing generation, a novel stratified compositional rendering method is proposed to fuse multi-layer human models, and a new loss function is utilized to help decouple the clothing model from the human body. The proposed method achieves high-quality disentanglement, which thereby provides an effective way for 3D garment generation. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our approach achieves state-of-the-art 3D clothed human generation while also supporting cloth editing applications such as virtual try-on."

展开摘要

"The field of 3D human motion generation from natural language descriptions, known as Text2Motion, has gained significant attention for its potential application in industries such as film, gaming, and AR/VR. To tackle a key challenge in Text2Motion, the deficiency of 3D human motions and their corresponding textual descriptions, we built a novel large-scale 3D human motion dataset, LaViMo, extracted from in-the-wild web videos and action recognition datasets. LaViMo is approximately 3.3 times larger and encompasses a much broader range of actions than the largest available 3D motion dataset. We then introduce a novel multi-task framework TMT (Text Motion Translator), aimed at generating faithful 3D human motions from natural language descriptions, especially focusing on complicated actions and those not existing in the training set. In contrast to prior works, TMT is uniquely regularized by multiple tasks, including Text2Motion, Motion2Text, Text2Text, and Motion2Motion. This multi-task regularization significantly bolsters the model’s robustness and enhances its ability of motion modeling and semantic understanding. Additionally, we devised an augmentation method for the textual descriptions using Large Language Models. This augmentation significantly enhances the model’s capability to interpret open-vocabulary descriptions while generating motions. The results demonstrate substantial improvements over existing state-of-the-art methods, particularly in handling diverse and novel motion descriptions, laying a strong foundation for future research in the field."

展开摘要

"Given a 3D mesh, we aim to synthesize 3D textures that correspond to arbitrary textual descriptions. Current methods for generating and assembling textures from sampled views often result in prominent seams or excessive smoothing. To tackle these issues, we present TexGen, a novel multi-view sampling and resampling framework for texture generation leveraging a pre-trained text-to-image diffusion model. For view consistent sampling, first of all we maintain a texture map in RGB space that is parameterized by the denoising step and updated after each sampling step of the diffusion model to progressively reduce the view discrepancy. An attention-guided multi-view sampling strategy is exploited to broadcast the appearance information across views. To preserve texture details, we develop a noise resampling technique that aids in the estimation of noise, generating inputs for subsequent denoising steps, as directed by the text prompt and current texture map. Through an extensive amount of qualitative and quantitative evaluations, we demonstrate that our proposed method produces significantly better texture quality for diverse 3D objects with a high degree of view consistency and rich appearance details, outperforming current state-of-the-art methods. Furthermore, our proposed texture generation technique can also be applied to texture editing while preserving the original identity. 展开摘要

"Probabilistic denoising diffusion models (DDMs) have set a new standard for 2D image generation. Extending DDMs for 3D content creation is an active field of research. Here, we propose TetraDiffusion, a diffusion model that operates on a tetrahedral partitioning of 3D space to enable efficient, high-resolution 3D shape generation. Our model introduces operators for convolution and transpose convolution that act directly on the tetrahedral partition, and seamlessly includes additional attributes like color. Our design generates mesh geometry much more efficiently: Compared to existing mesh diffusion techniques, TetraDiffusion is up to 200× faster. At the same time, it reduces memory consumption and can operate at substantially higher resolution than existing mesh generators. Using only standard consumer hardware, it sets a new standard in terms of spatial detail and outperforms other mesh generators across a range of quality metrics. 展开摘要

"Image reconstruction from incomplete measurements is a basic task in medical imaging. While supervised deep learning proves to be a powerful tool for image reconstruction, it demands a substantial number of latent images for training. To extend the application of deep learning to medical imaging where collecting latent images poses challenges, this paper introduces an self-supervised test-time adaptation approach. The proposed approach leverages a pre-trained model on an external dataset and efficiently adapts it to each test sample for optimal generalization performance. Model adaption for an unrolling network is done with additional lightweight adaptive linear layers, enabling efficient alignment of testing samples with the distribution targeted in the pre-trained model. This approach is inspired by the connection between linear convolutional layer and Wiener filtering. Extensive experiments showed significant performance gain of the proposed method over other unsupervised methods and model adaptation techniques in two medical imaging tasks."

Test-Time Stain Adaptation with Diffusion Models for Histopathology Image Classification

展开摘要

"Stain shifts are prevalent in histopathology images, and typically dealt with by normalization or augmentation. Considering training-time methods are limited in dealing with unseen stains, we propose a test-time stain adaptation method (TT-SaD) with diffusion models that achieves stain adaptation by solving a nonlinear inverse problem during testing. TT-SaD is promising in that it only needs a single domain for training but can adapt well from other domains during testing, preventing models from retraining whenever there are new data available. For tumor classification, stain adaptation by TT-SaD outperforms state-of-the-art diffusion model-based test-time methods. Moreover, TT-SaD beats training-time methods when testing on data that are inaccessible during training. To our knowledge, the study of stain adaptation in diffusion model during testing time is relatively unexplored."

展开摘要

"Object detection is a main task in computer vision. Template matching is the reference method for detecting objects with arbitrary templates. However, template matching computational complexity depends on the rotation accuracy, being a limiting factor for large 3D images (tomograms). Here, we implement a new algorithm called tensorial template matching, based on a mathematical framework that represents all rotations of a template with a tensor field. Contrary to standard template matching, the computational complexity of the presented algorithm is independent of the rotation accuracy. Using both, synthetic and real data from tomography, we demonstrate that tensorial template matching is much faster than template matching and has the potential to improve its accuracy."

Tendency-driven Mutual Exclusivity for Weakly Supervised Incremental Semantic Segmentation

Chongjie Si, Xuehui Wang, Xiaokang Yang, Wei Shen

展开摘要

"Weakly Incremental Learning for Semantic Segmentation (WILSS) leverages a pre-trained segmentation model to segment new classes using cost-effective and readily available image-level labels. A prevailing way to solve WILSS is the generation of seed areas for each new class, serving as a form of pixel-level supervision. However, a scenario usually arises where a pixel is concurrently predicted as an old class by the pre-trained segmentation model and a new class by the seed areas. Such a scenario becomes particularly problematic in WILSS, as the lack of pixel-level annotations on new classes makes it intractable to ascertain whether the pixel pertains to the new class or not. To surmount this issue, we propose an innovative, tendency-driven relationship of mutual exclusivity, meticulously tailored to govern the behavior of the seed areas and the predictions generated by the pre-trained segmentation model. This relationship stipulates that predictions for the new and old classes must not conflict whilst prioritizing the preservation of predictions for the old classes, which not only addresses the conflicting prediction issue but also effectively mitigates the inherent challenge of incremental learning - catastrophic forgetting. Furthermore, under the auspices of this tendency-driven mutual exclusivity relationship, we generate pseudo masks for the new classes, allowing for concurrent execution with model parameter updating via the resolution of a bi-level optimization problem. Extensive experiments substantiate the effectiveness of our framework, resulting in the establishment of new benchmarks and paving the way for further research in this field."

Temporally Consistent Stereo Matching

展开摘要

"Stereo matching provides depth estimation from binocular images for downstream applications. These applications mostly take video streams as input and require temporally consistent depth maps. However, existing methods mainly focus on the estimation at the single-frame level. This commonly leads to temporally inconsistent results, especially in ill-posed regions. In this paper, we aim to leverage temporal information to improve the temporal consistency, accuracy, and efficiency of stereo matching. To achieve this, we formulate video stereo matching as a process of temporal disparity completion followed by continuous iterative refinements. Specifically, we first project the disparity of the previous timestamp to the current viewpoint, obtaining a semi-dense disparity map. Then, we complete this map through a disparity completion module to obtain a well-initialized disparity map. The state features from the current completion module and from the past refinement are fused together, providing a temporally coherent state for subsequent refinement. Based on this coherent state, we introduce a dual-space refinement module to iteratively refine the initialized result in both disparity and disparity gradient spaces, improving estimations in ill-posed regions. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method effectively alleviates temporal inconsistency while enhancing both accuracy and efficiency. Currently, our method ranks second on the KITTI 2015 benchmark, while achieving superior efficiency compared to other state-of-the-art methods. The code is available at https://github.com/jiaxiZeng/Temporally-Consistent-Stereo-Matching."

Temporal-Mapping Photography for Event Cameras

展开摘要

"Event cameras, or Dynamic Vision Sensors (DVS) are novel neuromorphic sensors that capture brightness changes as a continuous stream of “events” rather than traditional intensity frames. Converting sparse events to dense intensity frames faithfully has long been an ill-posed problem. Previous methods have primarily focused on converting events to video in dynamic scenes or with a moving camera. In this paper, for the first time, we realize events to dense intensity image conversion using a stationary event camera in static scenes with a transmittance adjustment device for brightness modulation. Different from traditional methods that mainly rely on event integration, the proposed Event-Based Temporal Mapping Photography () measures the time of event emitting for each pixel. Then, the resulting is converted to an intensity frame with a temporal mapping neural network. At the hardware level, the proposed is implemented by combining a transmittance adjustment device with a DVS, named Adjustable Transmittance Dynamic Vision Sensor (). Additionally, we collected under various conditions including low-light and high dynamic range scenes. The experimental results showcase the high dynamic range, fine-grained details, and high-grayscale resolution of the proposed . 展开摘要

"We introduce Temporal Residual Jacobians as a novel representation to enable data-driven motion transfer. Our approach does not assume access to any rigging or intermediate shape keyframes, produces geometrically and temporally consistent motions, and can be used to transfer long motion sequences. Central to our approach are two coupled neural networks that individually predict local geometric and temporal changes that are subsequently integrated, spatially and temporally, to produce the final animated meshes. The two networks are jointly trained, complement each other in producing spatial and temporal signals, and are supervised directly with 3D positional information. During inference, in the absence of keyframes, our method essentially solves a motion extrapolation problem. We test our setup on diverse meshes (synthetic and scanned shapes) to demonstrate its superiority in generating realistic and natural-looking animations on unseen body shapes against SoTA alternatives. Supplemental video and code are available at https://temporaljacobians.github.io/."
