TrojVLM: Backdoor Attack Against Vision Language Models

Weimin Lyu, Lu Pang, Tengfei Ma, Haibin Ling, Chao Chen

展开摘要

"The emergence of Vision Language Models (VLMs) is a significant advancement in integrating computer vision with Large Language Models (LLMs) to produce detailed text descriptions based on visual inputs, yet it introduces new security vulnerabilities. Unlike prior work that centered on single modalities or classification tasks, this study introduces TrojVLM, the first exploration of backdoor attacks aimed at VLMs engaged in complex image-to-text generation. Specifically, TrojVLM inserts predetermined target text into output text when encountering poisoned images. Moreover, a novel semantic preserving loss is proposed to ensure the semantic integrity of the original image content. Our evaluation on image captioning and visual question answering (VQA) tasks confirms the effectiveness of TrojVLM in maintaining original semantic content while triggering specific target text outputs. This study not only uncovers a critical security risk in VLMs and image-to-text generation but also sets a foundation for future research on securing multimodal models against such sophisticated threats."

Tri^{2}-plane: Thinking Head Avatar via Feature Pyramid

展开摘要

"Recent years have witnessed considerable achievements in facial avatar reconstruction with neural volume rendering. Despite notable advancements, the reconstruction of complex and dynamic head movements from monocular videos still suffers from capturing and restoring fine-grained details. In this work, we propose a novel approach, named Tri2 -plane, for monocular photo-realistic volumetric head avatar reconstructions. Distinct from the existing works that rely on a single tri-plane deformation field for dynamic facial modeling, the proposed Tri2 -plane leverages the principle of feature pyramids and three top-to-down lateral connections tri-planes for details improvement. It samples and renders facial details at multiple scales, transitioning from the entire face to specific local regions and then to even more refined sub-regions. Moreover, we incorporate a camera-based geometry-aware sliding window method as an augmentation in training, which improves the robustness beyond the canonical space, with a particular improvement in cross-identity generation capabilities. Experimental outcomes indicate that the Tri2 -plane not only surpasses existing methodologies but also achieves superior performance across quantitative and qualitative assessments. TriNeRFLet: A Wavelet Based Triplane NeRF Representation

Rajaei Khatib*, Raja Giryes

展开摘要

"In recent years, the neural radiance field (NeRF) model has gained popularity due to its ability to recover complex 3D scenes. Following its success, many approaches proposed different NeRF representations in order to further improve both runtime and performance. One such example is Triplane, in which NeRF is represented using three 2D feature planes. This enables easily using existing 2D neural networks in this framework, e.g., to generate the three planes. Despite its advantage, the triplane representation lagged behind in 3D recovery quality compared to NeRF solutions. In this work, we propose the TriNeRFLet framework, where we learn the wavelet representation of the triplane and regularize it. This approach has multiple advantages: (i) it allows information sharing across scales and regularization of high frequencies; (ii) it facilitates performing learning in a multi-scale fashion; and (iii) it provides a ‘natural’ framework for performing NeRF super-resolution (SR), such that the low-resolution wavelet coefficients are computed from the provided low-resolution multi-view images and the high frequencies are acquired under the guidance of a pre-trained 2D diffusion model. We show the SR approach’s advantage on both Blender and LLFF datasets."

TreeSBA: Tree-Transformer for Self-Supervised Sequential Brick Assembly

展开摘要

"Inferring step-wise actions to assemble 3D objects with primitive bricks from images is a challenging task due to complex constraints and the vast number of possible combinations. Recent studies have demonstrated promising results on sequential LEGO brick assembly through the utilization of LEGO-Graph modeling to predict sequential actions. However, existing approaches are class-specific and require significant computational and 3D annotation resources. In this work, we first propose a computationally efficient breadth-first search (BFS) LEGO-Tree structure to model the sequential assembly actions by considering connections between consecutive layers. Based on the LEGO-Tree structure, we then design a class-agnostic tree-transformer framework to predict the sequential assembly actions from the input multi-view images. A major challenge of the sequential brick assembly task is that the step-wise action labels are costly and tedious to obtain in practice. We mitigate this problem by leveraging synthetic-to-real transfer learning. Specifically, our model is first pre-trained on synthetic data with full supervision from the available action labels. We then circumvent the requirement for action labels in the real data by proposing an action-to-silhouette projection that replaces action labels with input image silhouettes for self-supervision. Without any annotation on the real data, our model outperforms existing methods with 3D supervision by 7.8% and 11.3% in mIoU on the MNIST and ModelNet Construction datasets, respectively."

展开摘要

"We introduce , featuring the first collection of 600,000 environmentally aware, 3D simulation-ready tree models generated through Diffusion priors. Each reconstructed 3D tree model corresponds to an image from Google’s Auto Arborist Dataset, comprising street view images and associated genus labels of trees across North America. Our method distills the scores of two tree-adapted diffusion models by utilizing text prompts to specify a tree genus, thus facilitating shape reconstruction. This process involves reconstructing a 3D tree envelope filled with point markers, which are subsequently utilized to estimate the tree’s branching structure using the space colonization algorithm conditioned on a specified genus."

Transferable 3D Adversarial Shape Completion using Diffusion Models

Xuelong Dai, Bin Xiao

展开摘要

"Recent studies that incorporate geometric features and transformers into 3D point cloud feature learning have significantly improved the performance of 3D deep-learning models. However, their robustness against adversarial attacks has not been thoroughly explored. Existing attack methods primarily focus on white-box scenarios and struggle to transfer to recently proposed 3D deep-learning models. Even worse, these attacks introduce perturbations to 3D coordinates, generating unrealistic adversarial examples and resulting in poor performance against 3D adversarial defenses. In this paper, we generate high-quality adversarial point clouds using diffusion models. By using partial points as prior knowledge, we generate realistic adversarial examples through shape completion with adversarial guidance. The proposed adversarial shape completion allows for a more reliable generation of adversarial point clouds. To enhance attack transferability, we delve into the characteristics of 3D point clouds and employ model uncertainty for better inference of model classification through random down-sampling of point clouds. We adopt ensemble adversarial guidance for improved transferability across different network architectures. To maintain the generation quality, we limit our adversarial guidance solely to the critical points of the point clouds by calculating saliency scores. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our proposed attacks outperform state-of-the-art adversarial attack methods against both black-box models and defenses. Our black-box attack establishes a new baseline for evaluating the robustness of various 3D point cloud classification models."

TransFusion -- A Transparency-Based Diffusion Model for Anomaly Detection

Matic Fučka*, Vitjan Zavrtanik, Danijel Skočaj

展开摘要

"Surface anomaly detection is a vital component in manufacturing inspection. Current discriminative methods follow a two-stage architecture composed of a reconstructive network followed by a discriminative network that relies on the reconstruction output. Currently used reconstructive networks often produce poor reconstructions that either still contain anomalies or lack details in anomaly-free regions. Discriminative methods are robust to some reconstructive network failures, suggesting that the discriminative network learns a strong normal appearance signal that the reconstructive networks miss. We reformulate the two-stage architecture into a single-stage iterative process that allows the exchange of information between the reconstruction and localization. We propose a novel transparency-based diffusion process where the transparency of anomalous regions is progressively increased, restoring their normal appearance accurately while maintaining the appearance of anomaly-free regions using localization cues of previous steps. We implement the proposed process as TRANSparency DifFUSION (TransFusion), a novel discriminative anomaly detection method that achieves state-of-the-art performance on both the VisA and the MVTec AD datasets, with an image-level AUROC of 98.5% and 99.2%, respectively. 展开摘要

"We propose a simple yet effective approach for few-shot action recognition, emphasizing the disentanglement of motion and appearance representations. By harnessing recent progress in tracking, specifically point trajectories and self-supervised representation learning, we build trajectory-aligned tokens (TATs) that capture motion and appearance information. This approach significantly reduces the data requirements while retaining essential information. To process these representations, we use a Masked Space-time Transformer that effectively learns to aggregate information to facilitate few-shot action recognition. We demonstrate state-of-the-art results on few-shot action recognition across multiple datasets. Our project page is available here."

展开摘要

"Cross-modal learning shows promising potential to overcome the limitations of single-modality tasks. However, without proper design for representation alignment between different data sources, the external modality cannot fully exhibit its value. For example, recent trajectory prediction approaches incorporate the Bird’s-Eye-View (BEV) scene as an additional source but do not significantly improve performance compared to single-source strategies, indicating that the BEV scene and trajectory representations are not effectively combined. To overcome this problem, we propose TrajPrompt, a prompt-based approach that seamlessly incorporates trajectory representation into the vision-language framework, CLIP, for the BEV scene understanding and future forecasting. We discover that CLIP can attend to the local area of the BEV scene by utilizing our innovative design of text prompts and colored lines. Comprehensive results demonstrate TrajPrompt’s effectiveness via outperforming the state-of-the-art trajectory predictors by a significant margin (over 35% improvement for ADE and FDE metrics on SDD and DroneCrowd dataset), using fewer learnable parameters than the previous trajectory modeling approaches with scene information included. Training-free Video Temporal Grounding using Large-scale Pre-trained Models

Minghang Zheng, Xinhao Cai, Qingchao Chen, Yuxin Peng, Yang Liu

展开摘要

"Video temporal grounding aims to identify video segments within untrimmed videos that are most relevant to a given natural language query. Existing video temporal localization models rely on specific datasets for training, with high data collection costs, but exhibit poor generalization capability under the across-dataset and out-of-distribution (OOD) settings. In this paper, we propose a Training-Free Video Temporal Grounding () approach that leverages the ability of pre-trained large models. A naive baseline is to enumerate proposals in the video and use the pre-trained visual language models (VLMs) to select the best proposal according to the vision-language alignment. However, most existing VLMs are trained on image-text pairs or trimmed video clip-text pairs, making it struggle to (1) grasp the relationship and distinguish the temporal boundaries of multiple events within the same video; (2) comprehend and be sensitive to the dynamic transition of events (the transition from one event to another) in the video. To address these issues, firstly, we propose leveraging large language models (LLMs) to analyze multiple sub-events contained in the query text and analyze the temporal order and relationships between these events. Secondly, we split a sub-event into dynamic transition and static status parts and propose the dynamic and static scoring functions using VLMs to better evaluate the relevance between the event and the description. Finally, for each sub-event description provided by LLMs, we use VLMs to locate the top-k proposals that are most relevant to the description and leverage the order and relationships between sub-events provided by LLMs to filter and integrate these proposals. Our method achieves the best performance on zero-shot video temporal grounding on Charades-STA and ActivityNet Captions datasets without any training and demonstrates better generalization capabilities in cross-dataset and OOD settings. Training-free Composite Scene Generation for Layout-to-Image Synthesis

展开摘要

"Recent breakthroughs in text-to-image diffusion models have significantly advanced the generation of high-fidelity, photo-realistic images from textual descriptions. Yet, these models often struggle with interpreting spatial arrangements from text, hindering their ability to produce images with precise spatial configurations. To bridge this gap, layout-to-image generation has emerged as a promising direction. However, training-based approaches are limited by the need for extensively annotated datasets, leading to high data acquisition costs and a constrained conceptual scope. Conversely, training-free methods face challenges in accurately locating and generating semantically similar objects within complex compositions. This paper introduces a novel training-free approach designed to overcome adversarial semantic intersections during the diffusion conditioning phase. By refining intra-token loss with selective sampling and enhancing the diffusion process with attention redistribution, we propose two innovative constraints: 1) an inter-token constraint that resolves token conflicts to ensure accurate concept synthesis; and 2) a self-attention constraint that improves pixel-to-pixel relationships. Our evaluations confirm the effectiveness of leveraging layout information for guiding the diffusion process, generating content-rich images with enhanced fidelity and complexity. Training-Free Model Merging for Multi-target Domain Adaptation

展开摘要

"In this paper, we study multi-target domain adaptation of scene understanding models. While previous methods achieved commendable results through inter-domain consistency losses, they often assumed unrealistic simultaneous access to images from all target domains, overlooking constraints such as data transfer bandwidth limitations and data privacy concerns. Given these challenges, we pose the question: How to merge models adapted independently on distinct domains while bypassing the need for direct access to training data? Our solution to this problem involves two components, merging model parameters and merging model buffers (, normalization layer statistics). For merging model parameters, empirical analyses of mode connectivity surprisingly reveal that linear merging suffices when employing the same pretrained backbone weights for adapting separate models. For merging model buffers, we model the real-world distribution with a Gaussian prior and estimate new statistics from the buffers of separately trained models. Our method is simple yet effective, achieving comparable performance with data combination training baselines, while eliminating the need for accessing training data. Training A Small Emotional Vision Language Model for Visual Art Comprehension

Jing Zhang, Liang Zheng, Meng Wang, Dan Guo

展开摘要

"This paper develops small vision language models to understand visual art, which, given an art work, aims to identify its emotion category and explain this prediction with natural language. While small models are computationally efficient, their capacity is much limited compared with large models. To break this trade-off, this paper builds a small emotional vision language model (SEVLM) by emotion modeling and input-output feature alignment. On the one hand, based on valence-arousal-dominance (VAD) knowledge annotated by psychology experts, we introduce and fuse emotional features derived through VAD dictionary and a VAD head to align VAD vectors of predicted emotion explanation and the ground truth. This allows the vision language model to better understand and generate emotional texts, compared with using traditional text embeddings alone. On the other hand, we design a contrastive head to pull close embeddings of the image, its emotion class, and explanation, which aligns model outputs and inputs. On two public affective explanation datasets, we show that the proposed techniques consistently improve the visual art understanding performance of baseline SEVLMs. Importantly, the proposed model can be trained and evaluated on a single RTX 2080 Ti while exhibiting very strong performance: it not only outperforms the state-of-the-art small models but is also competitive compared with LLaVA 7B after fine-tuning and GPT4(V). Training A Secure Model against Data-Free Model Extraction

展开摘要

"The objective of data-free model extraction (DFME) is to acquire a pre-trained black-box model solely through query access, without any knowledge of the training data used for the victim model. Defending against DFME is challenging because the attack query data distribution and the attacker’s strategy remain undisclosed to the defender beforehand. However, existing defense methods: (1) are computational and memory inefficient; or (2) can only provide evidence of model theft after the model has already been stolen. To address these limitations, we thus propose an Attack-Aware and Uncertainty-Guided (AAUG) defense method against DFME. AAUG is designed to effectively thwart DFME attacks while concurrently enhancing deployment efficiency. The key strategy involves introducing random weight perturbations to the victim model’s weights during predictions for various inputs. During defensive training, the weights perturbations are maximized on simulated out-of-distribution (OOD) data to heighten the challenge of model theft, while being minimized on in-distribution (ID) training data to preserve model utility. Additionally, we formulate an attack-aware defensive training objective function, reinforcing the model’s resistance to theft attempts. Extensive experiments on defending against both soft-label and hard-label DFME attacks demonstrate the effectiveness of AAUG. In particular, AAUG significantly reduces the accuracy of the clone model and is substantially more efficient than existing defense methods."

Train Till You Drop: Towards Stable and Robust Source-free Unsupervised 3D Domain Adaptation

展开摘要

"We tackle the challenging problem of source-free unsupervised domain adaptation (SFUDA) for 3D semantic segmentation. It amounts to performing domain adaptation on an unlabeled target domain without any access to source data; the available information is a model trained to achieve good performance on the source domain. A common issue with existing SFUDA approaches is that performance degrades after some training time, which is a by-product of an under-constrained and ill-posed problem. We discuss two strategies to alleviate this issue. First, we propose a sensible way to regularize the learning problem. Second, we introduce a novel criterion based on agreement with a reference model. It is used (1) to stop the training when appropriate and (2) as validator to select hyperparameters without any knowledge on the target domain. Our contributions are easy to implement and readily amenable for all SFUDA methods, ensuring stable improvements over all baselines. We validate our findings on various 3D lidar settings, achieving state-of-the-art performance. The project repository (with code) is: github.com/valeoai/TTYD"

展开摘要

"In autonomous simulation and surveillance, realistic scenarios are crucial for advancing object detection algorithms. Existing aerial datasets suffer from sample class imbalance, especially in larger vehicles like trucks, and unrealistic lighting conditions. This hampers progress in driving behavior analysis and imitation. To address these limitations, we introduce a novel multimodal vehicle surveillance dataset, integrating aerial thermal infrared and sRGB imagery. It contributes: (1) A novel thermal infrared vehicle detection benchmark, ensuring robust object detection in nighttime lighting conditions. (2) Thermal infrared surveillance videos paired with corresponding HD-MAPs for improved multi-vehicle tracking. (3) Specialized annotations for semi-trailers, precisely documenting their movement trajectories and physical coordinates. TrafficNight significantly advances understanding of larger vehicles in traffic dynamics, serving as a benchmark for enhancing Autopilot systems and traffic surveillance in challenging environments. 1 1 See TrafficNight project webpage for the code and more."

Trackastra: Transformer-based cell tracking for live-cell microscopy

Benjamin Gallusser, Martin Weigert

展开摘要

"Cell tracking is a ubiquitous image analysis task in live-cell microscopy. Unlike multiple object tracking (MOT) for natural images, cell tracking typically involves hundreds of similar-looking objects that can divide in each frame, making it a particularly challenging problem. Current state-of-the-art approaches follow the tracking-by-detection paradigm, first all cells are detected per frame and successively linked in a second step to form biologically consistent cell tracks. Linking is commonly solved via discrete optimization methods, which require manual tuning of hyperparameters for each dataset and are therefore cumbersome to use in practice. Here we propose , a general purpose cell tracking approach that uses a simple transformer architecture to directly learn pairwise associations of cells within a temporal window from annotated data. Importantly, unlike existing transformer-based MOT pipelines, our learning architecture also accounts for dividing objects such as cells and allows for accurate tracking even with simple greedy linking, thus making strides towards removing the requirement for a complex linking step. The proposed architecture operates on the full spatio-temporal context of detections within a time window by avoiding the computational burden of processing dense images. We show that our tracking approach performs on par with or better than highly tuned state-of-the-art cell tracking algorithms for various biological datasets, such as bacteria, cell cultures and fluorescent particles. TrackNeRF: Bundle Adjusting NeRF from Sparse and Noisy Views via Feature Tracks

展开摘要

"Neural radiance fields (NeRFs) generally require many images with accurate poses for accurate novel view synthesis, which does not reflect realistic setups where views can be sparse and poses can be noisy. Previous solutions for learning NeRFs with sparse views and noisy poses only consider local geometry consistency with pairs of views. Closely following bundle adjustment in Structure-from-Motion (SfM), we introduce TrackNeRF for more globally consistent geometry reconstruction and more accurate pose optimization. TrackNeRF introduces feature tracks, connected pixel trajectories across all visible views that correspond to the same 3D points. By enforcing reprojection consistency among feature tracks, TrackNeRF encourages holistic 3D consistency explicitly. Through extensive experiments, TrackNeRF sets a new benchmark in noisy and sparse view reconstruction. In particular, TrackNeRF shows significant improvements over the state-of-the-art BARF and SPARF by ∼ 8 and ∼ 1 in terms of PSNR on DTU under various sparse and noisy view setups. The code is available at purplehttps://tracknerf.github.io/."
