Learning Representations from Foundation Models for Domain Generalized Stereo Matching

Yongjian Zhang, Longguang Wang, Kunhong Li, WANG Yun, Yulan Guo

Expand abstract

"State-of-the-art stereo matching networks trained on in-domain data often underperform on cross-domain scenes. Intuitively, leveraging the zero-shot capacity of a foundation model can alleviate the cross-domain generalization problem. The main challenge of incorporating a foundation model into stereo matching pipeline lies in the absence of an effective forward process from single-view coarse-grained tokens to cross-view fine-grained cost representations. In this paper, we propose FormerStereo, a general framework that integrates the Vision Transformer (ViT) based foundation model into the stereo matching pipeline. Using this framework, we transfer the all-purpose features to matching-specific ones. Specifically, we propose a reconstruction-constrained decoder to retrieve fine-grained representations from coarse-grained ViT tokens. To maintain cross-view consistent representations, we propose a cosine-constrained concatenation cost (C4) space to construct cost volumes. We integrate FormerStereo with state-of-the-art (SOTA) stereo matching networks and evaluate its effectiveness on multiple benchmark datasets. Experiments show that the FormerStereo framework effectively improves the zero-shot performance of existing stereo matching networks on unseen domains and achieves SOTA performance."

Learning Representation for Multitask Learning through Self-Supervised Auxiliary Learning

Seokwon Shin, Hyungrok Do, Youngdoo Son

Expand abstract

"Multi-task learning is a popular machine learning approach that enables simultaneous learning of multiple related tasks, improving algorithmic efficiency and effectiveness. In the hard parameter sharing approach, an encoder shared through multiple tasks generates data representations passed to task-specific predictors. Therefore, it is crucial to have a shared encoder that provides decent representations for every and each task. However, despite recent advances in multi-task learning, the question of how to improve the quality of representations generated by the shared encoder remains open. To address this gap, we propose a novel approach called Dummy Gradient norm Regularization (DGR) that aims to improve the universality of the representations generated by the shared encoder. Specifically, the method decreases the norm of the gradient of the loss function with respect to dummy task-specific predictors to improve the universality of the shared encoder’s representations. Through experiments on multiple multi-task learning benchmark datasets, we demonstrate that DGR effectively improves the quality of the shared representations, leading to better multi-task prediction performances. Applied to various classifiers, the shared representations generated by DGR also show superior performance compared to existing multi-task learning methods. Moreover, our approach takes advantage of computational efficiency due to its simplicity. The simplicity also allows us to seamlessly integrate DGR with the existing multi-task learning algorithms."

Learning Quantized Adaptive Conditions for Diffusion Models

Yuchen Liang, Yuchuan Tian, Lei Yu, Huaao Tang, Jie Hu, Xiangzhong Fang, Hanting Chen

Expand abstract

"The curvature of ODE trajectories in diffusion models hinders their ability to generate high-quality images in a few number of function evaluations (NFE). In this paper, we propose a novel and effective approach to reduce trajectory curvature by utilizing adaptive conditions. By employing a extremely light-weight quantized encoder, our method incurs only an additional 1% of training parameters, eliminates the need for extra regularization terms, yet achieves significantly better sample quality. Our approach accelerates ODE sampling while preserving the downstream task image editing capabilities of SDE techniques. Extensive experiments verify that our method can generate high quality results under extremely limited sampling costs. With only 6 NFE, we achieve 5.14 FID on CIFAR-10, 6.91 FID on FFHQ 64×64 and 3.10 FID on AFHQv2."

Learning Pseudo 3D Guidance for View-consistent Texturing with 2D Diffusion

Kehan Li, Yanbo Fan, Yang Wu, Zhongqian Sun, Wei Yang, Xiangyang Ji, Li Yuan, Jie Chen

Expand abstract

"Text-driven 3D texturing requires the generation of high-fidelity texture that conforms to given geometry and description. Recently, the high-quality text-to-image generation ability of 2D diffusion model has significantly promoted this task, by converting it into a texture optimization process guided by multi-view synthesized images, where the generation of high-quality and multi-view consistency images becomes the key issue. State-of-the-art methods achieve the consistency between different views by treating image generation on a novel view as image inpainting conditioned on the texture generated by previously views. However, due to the accumulated semantic divergence of local inpainting and the occlusion between object parts on sparse views, these inpainting-based methods often fail to deal with long-range texture consistency. To address these, we present P3G, a texturing approach based on learned Pseudo 3D Guidance. The key idea of P3G is to first learn a coarse but consistent texture, to serve as a global semantics guidance for encouraging the consistency between images generated on different views. To this end, we incorporate pre-trained text-to-image diffusion models and multi-view optimization to achieve propagating accurate semantics globally for leaning the guidance, and design an efficient framework for high-quality and multi-view consistent image generation that integrates the learned semantic guidance. Quantitative and qualitative evaluation on variant 3D shapes demonstrates the superiority of our P3G on both consistency and overall visual quality."

Learning Non-Linear Invariants for Unsupervised Out-of-Distribution Detection

Lars Doorenbos, Raphael Sznitman, Pablo Márquez-Neila

Expand abstract

"The inability of deep learning models to handle data drawn from unseen distributions has sparked much interest in unsupervised out-of-distribution (U-OOD) detection, as it is crucial for reliable deep learning models. Despite considerable attention, theoretically-motivated approaches are few and far between, with most methods building on top of some form of heuristic. Recently, U-OOD was formalized in the context of data invariants, allowing a clearer understanding of how to characterize U-OOD, and methods leveraging affine invariants have attained state-of-the-art results on large-scale benchmarks. Nevertheless, the restriction to affine invariants hinders the expressiveness of the approach. In this work, we broaden the affine invariants formulation to a more general case and propose a framework consisting of a normalizing flow-like architecture capable of learning non-linear invariants. Our novel approach achieves state-of-the-art results on an extensive U-OOD benchmark, and we demonstrate its further applicability to tabular data. Finally, we show our method has the same desirable properties as those based on affine invariants."

Expand abstract

"We introduce a novel neural volumetric pose feature, termed PoseMap, designed to enhance camera localization by encapsulating the information between images and the associated camera poses. Our framework leverages an Absolute Pose Regression (APR) architecture, together with an augmented NeRF module. This integration not only facilitates the generation of novel views to enrich the training dataset but also enables the learning of effective pose features. Additionally, we extend our architecture for self-supervised online alignment, allowing our method to be used and fine-tuned for unlabelled images within a unified framework. Experiments demonstrate that our method achieves 14.28% and 20.51% performance gain on average in indoor and outdoor benchmark scenes, outperforming existing APR methods with state-of-the-art accuracy."

Learning Neural Deformation Representation for 4D Dynamic Shape Generation

Gyojin Han, Jiwan Hur, Jaehyun Choi, Junmo Kim

Expand abstract

"Recent developments in 3D shape representation opened new possibilities for generating detailed 3D shapes. Despite these advances, there are few studies dealing with the generation of 4D dynamic shapes that have the form of 3D objects deforming over time. To bridge this gap, we focus on generating 4D dynamic shapes with an emphasis on both generation quality and efficiency in this paper. HyperDiffusion, a previous work on 4D generation, proposed a method of directly generating the weight parameters of 4D occupancy fields but suffered from low temporal consistency and slow rendering speed due to motion representation that is not separated from the shape representation of 4D occupancy fields. Therefore, we propose a new neural deformation representation and combine it with conditional neural signed distance fields to design a 4D representation architecture in which the motion latent space is disentangled from the shape latent space. The proposed deformation representation, which works by predicting skinning weights and rigid transformations for multiple parts, also has advantages over the deformation modules of existing 4D representations in understanding the structure of shapes. In addition, we design a training process of a diffusion model that utilizes the shape and motion features that are extracted by our 4D representation as data points. The results of unconditional generation, conditional generation, and motion retargeting experiments demonstrate that our method not only shows better performance than previous works in 4D dynamic shape generation but also has various potential applications."

Learning Natural Consistency Representation for Face Forgery Video Detection

Daichi Zhang*, Zihao Xiao, Shikun Li, Fanzhao Lin, Jianmin Li, Shiming Ge

Expand abstract

"Face Forgery videos have elicited critical social public concerns and various detectors have been proposed. However, fully-supervised detectors may lead to easily overfitting to specific forgery methods or videos, and existing self-supervised detectors are strict on auxiliary tasks, such as requiring audio or multi-modalities, leading to limited generalization and robustness. In this paper, we examine whether we can address this issue by leveraging visual-only real face videos. To this end, we propose to learn the Natural Consistency representation (NACO) of real face videos in a self-supervised manner, which is inspired by the observation that fake videos struggle to maintain the natural spatiotemporal consistency even under unknown forgery methods and different perturbations. Our NACO first extracts spatial features of each frame by CNNs then integrates them into Transformer to learn the long-range spatiotemporal representation, leveraging the advantages of CNNs and Transformer on local spatial receptive field and long-term memory respectively. Furthermore, a Spatial Predictive Module (SPM) and a Temporal Contrastive Module (TCM) are introduced to enhance the natural consistency representation learning. The SPM aims to predict random masked spatial features from spatiotemporal representation, and the TCM regularizes the latent distance of spatiotemporal representation by shuffling the natural order to disturb the consistency, which could both force our NACO more sensitive to the natural spatiotemporal consistency. After the representation learning stage, a MLP head is fine-tuned to perform the usual forgery video classification task. Extensive experiments show that our method outperforms other state-of-the-art competitors with impressive generalization and robustness."

Learning Multimodal Latent Generative Models with Energy-Based Prior

Shiyu Yuan*, Jiali Cui, Hanao Li, Tian Han

Expand abstract

"Multimodal generative models have recently gained significant attention for their ability to learn representations across various modalities, enhancing joint and cross-generation coherence. However, most existing works use standard Gaussian or Laplacian distributions as priors, which may struggle to capture the diverse information inherent in multiple data types due to their unimodal and less informative nature. Energy-based models (EBMs), known for their expressiveness and flexibility across various tasks, have yet to be thoroughly explored in the context of multimodal generative models. In this paper, we propose a novel framework that integrates the multimodal latent generative model with the EBM. Both models can be trained jointly through a variational scheme. This approach results in a more expressive and informative prior, better-capturing of information across multiple modalities. Our experiments validate the proposed model, demonstrating its superior generation coherence. Keywords: EBM · Multimodal latent generative model"

Learning Modality-agnostic Representation for Semantic Segmentation from Any Modalities

Xu Zheng, Yuanhuiyi Lyu, Lin Wang

Expand abstract

"Image modality is not perfect as it often fails in certain conditions, , night and fast motion. This significantly limits the robustness and versatility of existing multi-modal (, Image+X) semantic segmentation methods when confronting modality absence or failure, as often occurred in real-world applications. Inspired by the open-world learning capability of multi-modal vision-language models (MVLMs), we explore a new direction in learning the modality-agnostic representation via knowledge distillation (KD) from MVLMs. Intuitively, we propose Any2Seg , a novel framework that can achieve robust segmentation from any combination of modalities in any visual conditions. Specifically, we first introduce a novel language-guided semantic correlation distillation (LSCD) module to transfer both inter-modal and intra-modal semantic knowledge in the embedding space from MVLMs, , LanguageBind [?]. This enables us to minimize the modality gap and alleviate semantic ambiguity to combine any modalities in any visual conditions. Then, we introduce a modality-agnostic feature fusion (MFF) module that reweights the multi-modal features based on the inter-modal correlation and selects the fine-grained feature. This way, our Any2Seg finally yields an optimal modality-agnostic representation. Extensive experiments on two benchmarks with four modalities demonstrate that Any2Seg achieves the state-of-the-art under the multi-modal setting (+3.54 mIoU) and excels in the challenging modality-incomplete setting(+19.79 mIoU)."

Learning Local Pattern Modularization for Point Cloud Reconstruction from Unseen Classes

Chao Chen, Yu Shen Liu, Zhizhong Han

Expand abstract

"It is challenging to reconstruct 3D point clouds in unseen classes from single 2D images. Instead of object-centered coordinate system, current methods generalized global priors learned in seen classes to reconstruct 3D shapes from unseen classes in viewer-centered coordinate system. However, the reconstruction accuracy and interpretability are still eager to get improved. To resolve this issue, we introduce to learn local pattern modularization for reconstructing 3D shapes in unseen classes, which achieves both good generalization ability and high reconstruction accuracy. Our insight is to learn a local prior which is class-agnostic and easy to generalize in object-centered coordinate system. Specifically, the local prior is learned via a process of learning and customizing local pattern modularization in seen classes. During this process, we first learn a set of patterns in local regions, which is the basis in the object-centered coordinate system to represent an arbitrary region on shapes across different classes. Then, we modularize each region on an initially reconstructed shape using the learned local patterns. Based on that, we customize the local pattern modularization using the input image by refining the reconstruction with more details. Our method enables to reconstruct high fidelity point clouds from unseen classes in object-centered coordinate system without requiring a large number of patterns or any additional information, such as segmentation supervision or camera poses. Our experimental results under widely used benchmarks show that our method achieves the state-of-the-art reconstruction accuracy for shapes from unseen classes. "The Bird’s-Eye-View (BEV) representation is a critical factor that directly impacts the 3D object detection performance, but the traditional BEV grid representation induces quadratic computational cost as the spatial resolution grows. To address this limitation, we present a new camera-based 3D object detector with high-resolution vector representation: VectorFormer. The presented high-resolution vector representation is combined with the lower-resolution BEV representation to efficiently exploit 3D geometry from multi-camera images at a high resolution through our two novel modules: vector scattering and gathering. To this end, the learned vector representation with richer scene contexts can serve as the decoding query for final predictions. We conduct extensive experiments on the nuScenes dataset and demonstrate state-of-the-art performance in NDS and inference time. Furthermore, we investigate query-BEV-based methods incorporated with our proposed vector representation and observe a consistent performance improvement. Learning Exhaustive Correlation for Spectral Super-Resolution: Where Spatial-Spectral Attention Meets Linear Dependence

Hongyuan Wang, Lizhi Wang, Jiang Xu, Chang Chen, Xue Hu, Fenglong Song, Youliang Yan

Expand abstract

"Spectral super-resolution that aims to recover hyperspectral image (HSI) from easily obtainable RGB image has drawn increasing interest in the field of computational photography. The crucial aspect of spectral super-resolution lies in exploiting the correlation within HSIs. However, two types of bottlenecks in existing Transformers limit performance improvement and practical applications. First, existing Transformers often separately emphasize either spatial-wise or spectral-wise correlation, disrupting the 3D features of HSI and hindering the exploitation of unified spatial-spectral correlation. Second, existing self-attention mechanism always establishes full-rank correlation matrix by learning the correlation between pairs of tokens, leading to its inability to describe linear dependence widely existing in HSI among multiple tokens. To address these issues, we propose an Exhaustive Correlation Transformer (ECT) for spectral super-resolution. First, we propose a Spectral-wise Discontinuous 3D (SD3D) splitting strategy, which models unified local-nonlocal spatial-spectral correlation by integrating spatial-wise continuous splitting strategy and spectral-wise discontinuous splitting strategy. Second, we propose a Dynamic Low-Rank Mapping (DLRM) model, which captures linear dependence among multiple tokens through a dynamically calculated low-rank dependence map. By integrating unified spatial-spectral attention and linear dependence, our ECT can model exhaustive correlation within HSI. The experimental results on both simulated and real data indicate that our method achieves SOTA."

Learning Equilibrium Transformation for Gamut Expansion and Color Restoration

Jun Xiao, Changjian Shui, Zhi-Song Liu, Qian Ye, Kin-man Lam

Expand abstract

"Existing imaging systems support wide-gamut images like ProPhoto RGB, but most images are typically encoded in a narrower gamut space (e.g., sRGB). To this end, these images can be enhanced by learning to recover the original color values beyond the sRGB gamut, or out-of-gamut values. Current methods incorporate the metadata from the target wide-gamut images to expand the gamut, while preventing distortion of in-gamut values. However, this metadata is hard to obtain in real-world scenarios. In this paper, we propose a novel method that requires no metadata. We formulate gamut expansion as a “root-finding” problem and learn an equilibrium transformation via a neural network. Specifically, our method defines a dynamic system that keeps in-gamut values stable to prevent color distortion and updates out-of-gamut values recurrently. Therefore, we employ an implicit recurrent mechanism to iteratively extract features, which can effectively mitigate the vanishing gradient problem, and reduce the GPU memory consumption to O(1) complexity during training. Experiments demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of our model, in terms of gamut expansion and color restoration, outperforming state-of-the-art models by 0.40dB, in terms of PSNR, with a size of 40K parameters only. Learning Dual-Level Deformable Implicit Representation for Real-World Scale Arbitrary Super-Resolution

Expand abstract

"Scale arbitrary super-resolution based on implicit image function gains increasing popularity since it can better represent the visual world in a continuous manner. However, existing scale arbitrary works are trained and evaluated on simulated datasets, where low-resolution images are generated from their ground truths by the simplest bicubic downsampling. These models exhibit limited generalization to real-world scenarios due to the greater complexity of real-world degradations. To address this issue, we build a RealArbiSR dataset, a new real-world super-resolution benchmark with both integer and non-integer scaling factors fo the training and evaluation of real-world scale arbitrary super-resolution. Moreover, we propose a Dual-level Deformable Implicit Representation (DDIR) to solve real-world scale arbitrary super-resolution. Specifically, we design the appearance embedding and deformation field to handle both image-level and pixel-level deformations caused by real-world degradations. The appearance embedding models the characteristics of low-resolution inputs to deal with photometric variations at different scales, and the pixel-based deformation field learns RGB differences which result from the deviations between the real-world and simulated degradations at arbitrary coordinates. Extensive experiments show our trained model achieves state-of-the-art performance on the RealArbiSR and RealSR benchmarks for real-world scale arbitrary super-resolution. Learning Diffusion Models for Multi-View Anomaly Detection

Expand abstract

"We are exploring an emerging formulation in anomaly detection (AD) where multiple instances of the same object are produced simultaneously and distinctly to address the limitation that using only a single instance may not effectively capture any underlying defects. More specifically, we concentrate on a specific scenario where each object of interest is linked to seven distinct data views/representations. The first six views involve capturing images with a stationary camera under six different lighting conditions, while the seventh view pertains to the 3D normal information. We refer to our intended task as multi-view anomaly detection. To tackle this problem, our approach involves training a view-invariant ControlNet that can produce consistent feature maps regardless of the data views. This training strategy enables us to mitigate the impact of varying lighting conditions and to fuse information from both the RGB color appearance and the 3D normal geometry effectively. Moreover, as the diffusion process is not deterministic, we utilize the denoising diffusion implicit model (DDIM) [?] scheme to improve the applicability of our established memory banks of diffusion-based features for anomaly detection inference. To demonstrate the efficacy of our approach, we present extensive ablation studies and state-of-the-art experimental results on the Eyecandies dataset."

Learning Differentially Private Diffusion Models via Stochastic Adversarial Distillation

Bochao Liu, Pengju Wang, Shiming Ge

Expand abstract

"While the success of deep learning relies on large amounts of training datasets, data is often limited in privacy-sensitive domains. To address this challenge, generative model learning with differential privacy has emerged as a solution to train private generative models for desensitized data generation. However, the quality of the images generated by existing methods is limited due to the complexity of modeling data distribution. We build on the success of diffusion models and introduce DP-SAD, which trains a private diffusion model by a stochastic adversarial distillation method. Specifically, we first train a diffusion model as a teacher and then train a student by distillation, in which we achieve differential privacy by adding noise to the gradients from other models to the student. For better generation quality, we introduce a discriminator to distinguish whether an image is from the teacher or the student, which forms the adversarial training. Extensive experiments and analysis clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method."

"Reaching-and-grasping is a fundamental skill for robotic manipulation, but existing methods usually train models on a specific gripper and cannot be reused on another gripper. In this paper, we propose a novel method that can learn a unified policy model that can be easily transferred to different dexterous grippers. Our method consists of two stages: a gripper-agnostic policy model that predicts the displacements of pre-defined key points on the gripper, and a gripper-specific adaptation model that translates these displacements into adjustments for controlling the grippers’ joints. The gripper state and interactions with objects are captured at the finger level using robust geometric representations, integrated with a transformer-based network to address variations in gripper morphology and geometry. In the experiments, we evaluate our method on several dexterous grippers and diverse objects, and the result shows that our method significantly outperforms the baseline methods. Pioneering the transfer of grasp policies across dexterous grippers, our method effectively demonstrates its potential for learning generalizable and transferable manipulation skills for various robotic hands."

Learning Chain of Counterfactual Thought for Bias-Robust Vision-Language Reasoning

Yifeng Zhang, Ming Jiang, Qi Zhao

Expand abstract

"Despite the remarkable success of large vision-language models (LVLMs) on various tasks, their susceptibility to knowledge bias inherited from training data hinders their ability to generalize to new scenarios and limits their real-world applicability. To address this challenge, we propose the Counterfactual Bias-Robust Reasoning (CoBRa) dataset that tackles knowledge bias by offering a novel collection of VQA examples designed to evaluate and mitigate bias in LVLMs. These examples encourage counterfactual thinking by providing edited knowledge graphs and image contents, with detailed annotations of reasoning processes to facilitate a comprehensive understanding of the examples. Based on the dataset, we introduce a Chain of Counterfactual Thought (CoCT) method that learns the bias-robust reasoning processes and provides in-context examples demonstrating how existing reasoning generalizes to counterfactual scenarios. This enables LVLMs to explicitly reason step-by-step rather than relying on biased knowledge, leading to more generalizable solutions. Our extensive evaluation demonstrates that CoCT outperforms existing approaches on tasks requiring reasoning under knowledge bias. Our work is available at https://github. com/SuperJohnZhang/CoBRa."

Learning Camouflaged Object Detection from Noisy Pseudo Label

Jin Zhang, Ruiheng Zhang, Yanjiao Shi, Zhe Cao, Nian Liu, Fahad Shahbaz Khan

Expand abstract

"Existing Camouflaged Object Detection (COD) methods rely heavily on large-scale pixel-annotated training sets, which are both time-consuming and labor-intensive. Although weakly supervised methods offer higher annotation efficiency, their performance is far behind due to the unclear visual demarcations between foreground and background in camouflaged images. In this paper, we explore the potential of using boxes as prompts in camouflaged scenes and introduce the first weakly semi-supervised COD method, aiming for budget-efficient and high-precision camouflaged object segmentation with an extremely limited number of fully labeled images. Critically, learning from such limited set inevitably generates pseudo labels with serious noisy pixels. To address this, we propose a noise correction loss that facilitates the model’s learning of correct pixels in the early learning stage, and corrects the error risk gradients dominated by noisy pixels in the memorization stage, ultimately achieving accurate segmentation of camouflaged objects from noisy labels. When using only 20% of fully labeled data, our method shows superior performance over the state-of-the-art methods."
