PassionSR: Post-Training Quantization with Adaptive Scale in One-Step Diffusion based Image Super-Resolution

Libo Zhu, Jianze Li, Haotong Qin, Wenbo Li, Yulun Zhang, Yong Guo, Xiaokang Yang

Expand abstract

Diffusion-based image super-resolution (SR) models have shown superior performance at the cost of multiple denoising steps. However, even though the denoising step has been reduced to one, they require high computational costs and storage requirements, making it difficult for deployment on hardware devices. To address these issues, we propose a novel post-training quantization approach with adaptive scale in one-step diffusion (OSD) image SR, PassionSR. First, we simplify OSD model to two core components, UNet and Variational Autoencoder (VAE) by removing the CLIPEncoder. Secondly, we propose Learnable Boundary Quantizer (LBQ) and Learnable Equivalent Transformation (LET) to optimize the quantization process and manipulate activation distributions for better quantization. Finally, we design a Distributed Quantization Calibration (DQC) strategy that stabilizes the training of quantized parameters for rapid convergence. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate that PassionSR with 8-bit and 6-bit obtains comparable visual results with full-precision model. Moreover, our PassionSR achieves significant advantages over recent leading low-bit quantization methods for image SR. Our code will be released

PartGen: Part-level 3D Generation and Reconstruction with Multi-view Diffusion Models

Minghao Chen, Roman Shapovalov, Iro Laina, Tom Monnier, Jianyuan Wang, David Novotny, Andrea Vedaldi

Expand abstract

Text- or image-to-3D generators and 3D scanners can now produce 3D assets with high-quality shapes and textures, but as single, fused entities lacking meaningful structure. In contrast, most applications and creative workflows require 3D assets to be composed of distinct, meaningful parts that can be independently manipulated. To bridge this gap, we introduce PartGen, a novel approach for generating, from text, images, or unstructured 3D objects, 3D objects composed of meaningful parts. Our method leverages a multi-view diffusion model to extract plausible and view-consistent part segmentations from multiple views of a 3D object, dividing it into meaningful components. A second multi-view diffusion model then processes each part individually, filling in occlusions and generating completed views, which are subsequently passed to a 3D reconstruction network. The completion process ensures that the reconstructed parts integrate cohesively by considering the context of the entire object, compensating for missing information caused by occlusions and, in extreme cases, hallucinating entirely invisible parts based on contextual cues. We evaluate PartGen on both generated and real 3D assets, demonstrating significant improvements over segmentation and part completion baselines. We also showcase downstream applications such as text-guided 3D part editing.

Parallelized Autoregressive Visual Generation

Expand abstract

Autoregressive models have emerged as a powerful approach for visual generation but suffer from slow inference speed due to their sequential token-by-token prediction process. In this paper, we propose a simple yet effective approach for parallelized autoregressive visual generation that improves generation efficiency while preserving the advantages of autoregressive modeling. Our key insight is that parallel generation depends on visual token dependencies: tokens with weak dependencies can be generated in parallel, while strongly dependent adjacent tokens are difficult to generate together, as their independent sampling may lead to inconsistencies. Based on this observation, we develop a parallel generation strategy that generates distant tokens with weak dependencies in parallel while maintaining sequential generation for strongly dependent local tokens. Our approach can be seamlessly integrated into standard autoregressive models without modifying the architecture or tokenizer. Experiments on ImageNet and UCF-101 demonstrate that our method achieves a 3.6x speedup with comparable quality and up to 9.5x speedup with minimal quality degradation across both image and video generation tasks. We hope this work will inspire future research in efficient visual generation and unified autoregressive modeling. Project page: https://yuqingwang1029.github.io/PAR-project.

Panorama Generation From NFoV Image Done Right

Expand abstract

Generating 360-degree panoramas from narrow field of view (NFoV) image is a promising computer vision task for Virtual Reality (VR) applications. Existing methods mostly assess the generated panoramas with InceptionNet or CLIP based metrics, which tend to perceive the image quality and is not suitable for evaluating the distortion. In this work, we first propose a distortion-specific CLIP, named Distort-CLIP to accurately evaluate the panorama distortion and discover the "visual cheating" phenomenon in previous works (i.e., tending to improve the visual results by sacrificing distortion accuracy). This phenomenon arises because prior methods employ a single network to learn the distinct panorama distortion and content completion at once, which leads the model to prioritize optimizing the latter. To address the phenomenon, we propose PanoDecouple, a decoupled diffusion model framework, which decouples the panorama generation into distortion guidance and content completion, aiming to generate panoramas with both accurate distortion and visual appeal. Specifically, we design a DistortNet for distortion guidance by imposing panorama-specific distortion prior and a modified condition registration mechanism; and a ContentNet for content completion by imposing perspective image information. Additionally, a distortion correction loss function with Distort-CLIP is introduced to constrain the distortion explicitly. The extensive experiments validate that PanoDecouple surpasses existing methods both in distortion and visual metrics.

Paint by Inpaint: Learning to Add Image Objects by Removing Them First

navve wasserman, Noam Rotstein, Roy Ganz, Ron Kimmel

Expand abstract

Image editing has advanced significantly with the introduction of text-conditioned diffusion models. Despite this progress, seamlessly adding objects to images based on textual instructions without requiring user-provided input masks remains a challenge. We address this by leveraging the insight that removing objects (Inpaint) is significantly simpler than its inverse process of adding them (Paint), attributed to inpainting models that benefit from segmentation mask guidance. Capitalizing on this realization, by implementing an automated and extensive pipeline, we curate a filtered large-scale image dataset containing pairs of images and their corresponding object-removed versions. Using these pairs, we train a diffusion model to inverse the inpainting process, effectively adding objects into images. Unlike other editing datasets, ours features natural target images instead of synthetic ones while ensuring source-target consistency by construction. Additionally, we utilize a large Vision-Language Model to provide detailed descriptions of the removed objects and a Large Language Model to convert these descriptions into diverse, natural-language instructions. Our quantitative and qualitative results show that the trained model surpasses existing models in both object addition and general editing tasks. Expand abstract

Photorealistic 3D human modeling is essential for various applications and has seen tremendous progress. However, existing methods for monocular full-body reconstruction, typically relying on front and/or predicted back view, still struggle with satisfactory performance due to the ill-posed nature of the problem and sophisticated self-occlusions. In this paper, we propose PSHuman, a novel framework that explicitly reconstructs human meshes utilizing priors from the multiview diffusion model. It is found that directly applying multiview diffusion on single-view human images leads to severe geometric distortions, especially on generated faces. To address it, we propose a cross-scale diffusion that models the joint probability distribution of global full-body shape and local facial characteristics, enabling identity-preserved novel-view generation without geometric distortion. Moreover, to enhance cross-view body shape consistency of varied human poses, we condition the generative model on parametric models (SMPL-X), which provide body priors and prevent unnatural views inconsistent with human anatomy. Leveraging the generated multiview normal and color images, we present SMPLX-initialized explicit human carving to recover realistic textured human meshes efficiently. Extensive experiments on CAPE and THuman2.1 demonstrate PSHuman's superiority in geometry details, texture fidelity, and generalization capability.

Expand abstract

Diffusion models pre-trained on large-scale paired image-text data achieve significant success in image editing. To convey more fine-grained visual details, subject-driven editing integrates subjects in user-provided reference images into existing scenes. However, it is challenging to obtain photorealistic results, which simulate contextual interactions, such as reflections, illumination, and shadows, induced by merging the target object into the source image. To address this issue, we propose PS-Diffusion, which ensures realistic and consistent object-scene blending while maintaining the invariance of subject appearance during editing. To be specific, we first divide the contextual interactions into those occurring in the foreground and the background areas. The effect of the former is estimated through intrinsic image decomposition, and the region of the latter is predicted in an additional background effect control branch. Moreover, we propose an effect attention module to disentangle the learning processes of interaction and subject, alleviating confusion between them. Additionally, we introduce a synthesized dataset, Replace-5K, consisting of 5,000 image pairs with invariant subject and contextual interactions via 3D rendering. Extensive quantitative and qualitative experiments on our dataset and two real-world datasets demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance. Expand abstract

Text-to-image generation has recently emerged as a viable alternative to text-to-image retrieval, driven by the visually impressive results of generative diffusion models. Although query performance prediction is an active research topic in information retrieval, to the best of our knowledge, there is no prior study that analyzes the difficulty of queries (referred to as prompts) in text-to-image generation, based on human judgments. To this end, we introduce the first dataset of prompts which are manually annotated in terms of image generation performance. Additionally, we extend these evaluations to text-to-image retrieval by collecting manual annotations that represent retrieval performance. We thus establish the first joint benchmark for prompt and query performance prediction (PQPP) across both tasks, comprising over 10K queries. Our benchmark enables (i) the comparative assessment of prompt/query difficulty in both image generation and image retrieval, and (ii) the evaluation of prompt/query performance predictors addressing both generation and retrieval. We evaluate several pre- and post-generation/retrieval performance predictors, thus providing competitive baselines for future research. Our benchmark and code are publicly available at https://github.com/Eduard6421/PQPP.

Expand abstract

Poster design is a critical medium for visual communication. Prior work has explored automatic poster design using deep learning techniques, but these approaches lack text accuracy, user customization, and aesthetic appeal, limiting their applicability in artistic domains such as movies and exhibitions, where both clear content delivery and visual impact are essential. To address these limitations, we present POSTA: a modular framework powered by diffusion models and multimodal large language models (MLLMs) for customized artistic poster generation. The framework consists of three modules. Background Diffusion creates a themed background based on user input. Design MLLM then generates layout and typography elements that align with and complement the background style. Finally, to enhance the poster's aesthetic appeal, ArtText Diffusion applies additional stylization to key text elements. The final result is a visually cohesive and appealing poster, with a fully modular process that allows for complete customization. To train our models, we develop the PosterArt dataset, comprising high-quality artistic posters annotated with layout, typography, and pixel-level stylized text segmentation. Our comprehensive experimental analysis demonstrates POSTA's exceptional controllability and design diversity, outperforming existing models in both text accuracy and aesthetic quality.

PIDSR: Complementary Polarized Image Demosaicing and Super-Resolution

Expand abstract

Polarization cameras can capture multiple polarized images with different polarizer angles in a single shot, bringing convenience to polarization-based downstream tasks. However, their direct outputs are color-polarization filter array (CPFA) raw images, requiring demosaicing to reconstruct full-resolution, full-color polarized images; unfortunately, this necessary step introduces artifacts that make polarization-related parameters such as the degree of polarization (DoP) and angle of polarization (AoP) prone to error. Besides, limited by the hardware design, the resolution of a polarization camera is often much lower than that of a conventional RGB camera. Existing polarized image demosaicing (PID) methods are limited in that they cannot enhance resolution, while polarized image super-resolution (PISR) methods, though designed to obtain high-resolution (HR) polarized images from the demosaicing results, tend to retain or even amplify errors in the DoP and AoP introduced by demosaicing artifacts. In this paper, we propose PIDSR, a joint framework that performs complementary Polarized Image Demosaicing and Super-Resolution, showing the ability to robustly obtain high-quality HR polarized images with more accurate DoP and AoP from a CPFA raw image in a direct manner. Experiments show our PIDSR not only achieves state-of-the-art performance on both synthetic and real data, but also facilitates downstream tasks.

PICD: Versatile Perceptual Image Compression with Diffusion Rendering

Expand abstract

Recently, perceptual image compression has achieved significant advancements, delivering high visual quality at low bitrates for natural images. However, for screen content, existing methods often produce noticeable artifacts when compressing text. To tackle this challenge, we propose versatile perceptual screen image compression with diffusion rendering (PICD), a codec that works well for both screen and natural images. More specifically, we propose a compression framework that encodes the text and image separately, and renders them into one image using diffusion model. For this diffusion rendering, we integrate conditional information into diffusion models at three distinct levels: 1). Domain level: We fine-tune the base diffusion model using text content prompts with screen content. 2). Adaptor level: We develop an efficient adaptor to control the diffusion model using compressed image and text as input. 3). Instance level: We apply instance-wise guidance to further enhance the decoding process. Empirically, our PICD surpasses existing perceptual codecs in terms of both text accuracy and perceptual quality. Additionally, without text conditions, our approach serves effectively as a perceptual codec for natural images.

Ouroboros3D: Image-to-3D Generation via 3D-aware Recursive Diffusion

Expand abstract

Existing image-to-3D creation methods typically split the task into two individual stage: multi-view image generation and 3D reconstruction, leading to two main limitations: (1) In multi-view generation stage, the multi-view generated images present a challenge to preserving 3D consistency;; (2) In 3D reconstruction stage, there is a domain gap between real training data and generated multi-view input during inference. To address these issues, we propose Ouroboros3D, end-to-end trainable framework that integrates multi-view generation and 3D reconstruction into a recursive diffusion process through feedback mechanism. Our framework operates through iterative cycles where each cycle consists of a denoising process and a reconstruction step.By incorporating a 3D-aware feedback mechanism, our multi-view generative model leverages the explicit 3D geometric information (e.g. texture, position) from the feedback of reconstruction results of the previous process as conditions, thus modeling consistency at the 3D geometric level. Furthermore, through joint training of both the multi-view generative and reconstruction models, we alleviate reconstruction stage domain gap and enable mutual enhancement within the recursive process. Experimental results demonstrate that Ouroboros3D outperforms methods that treat these stages separately and those that combine them only during inference, achieving superior multi-view consistency and producing 3D models with higher geometric realism.

Order-One Rolling Shutter Cameras

Marvin Anas Hahn, Kathlén Kohn, Orlando Marigliano, Tomas Pajdla

Expand abstract

Rolling shutter (RS) cameras dominate consumer and smartphone markets. Several methods for computing the absolute pose of RS cameras have appeared in the last 20 years, but the relative pose problem has not been fully solved yet. We provide a unified theory for the important class of order-one rolling shutter (RS_1) cameras. These cameras generalize the perspective projection to RS cameras, projecting a generic space point to exactly one image point via a rational map. We introduce a new back-projection RS camera model, characterize RS_1 cameras, construct explicit parameterizations of such cameras, and determine the image of a space line. We classify all minimal problems for solving the relative camera pose problem with linear RS_1 cameras and discover new practical cases. Finally, we show how the theory can be used to explain RS models previously used for absolute pose computation.

Optical-Flow Guided Prompt Optimization for Coherent Video Generation

Expand abstract

While text-to-video diffusion models have made significant strides, many still face challenges in generating videos with temporal consistency. Within diffusion frameworks, guidance techniques have proven effective in enhancing output quality during inference; however, applying these methods to video diffusion models introduces additional complexity of handling computations across entire sequences. To address this, we propose a novel framework called MotionPrompt that guides the video generation process via optical flow. Specifically, we train a discriminator to distinguish optical flow between random pairs of frames from real videos and generated ones. Given that prompts can influence the entire video, we optimize learnable token embeddings during reverse sampling steps by using gradients from a trained discriminator applied to random frame pairs. This approach allows our method to generate visually coherent video sequences that closely reflect natural motion dynamics, without compromising the fidelity of the generated content. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach across various models. Project Page: https://motionprompt.github.io

Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) have made significant strides in visual understanding and generation tasks. However, generating interleaved image-text content remains a challenge, which requires integrated multimodal understanding and generation abilities. While the progress in unified models offers new solutions, existing benchmarks are insufficient for evaluating these methods due to data size and diversity limitations. To bridge this gap, we introduce OpenING, a comprehensive benchmark comprising 5,400 high-quality human-annotated instances across 56 real-world tasks. OpenING covers diverse daily scenarios such as travel guide, design, and brainstorming, offering a robust platform for challenging interleaved generation methods. In addition, we present IntJudge, a judge model for evaluating open-ended multimodal generation methods. Trained with a novel data pipeline, our IntJudge achieves an agreement rate of 82.42% with human judgments, outperforming GPT-based evaluators by 11.34%. Extensive experiments on OpenING reveal that current interleaved generation methods still have substantial room for improvement. Key findings on interleaved image-text generation are further presented to guide the development of next-generation models.

Text-to-Image (T2I) diffusion models have made remarkable advancements in generative modeling; however, they face a trade-off between inference speed and image quality, posing challenges for efficient deployment. Existing distilled T2I models can generate high-fidelity images with fewer sampling steps, but often struggle with diversity and quality, especially in one-step models. From our analysis, we observe redundant computations in the UNet encoders. Our findings suggest that, for T2I diffusion models, decoders are more adept at capturing richer and more explicit semantic information, while encoders can be effectively shared across decoders from diverse time steps.Based on these observations, we introduce the first Time-independent Unified Encoder (TiUE) for the student model UNet architecture, which is a loop-free image generation approach for distilling T2I diffusion models. Using a one-pass scheme, TiUE shares encoder features across multiple decoder time steps, enabling parallel sampling and significantly reducing inference time complexity. In addition, we incorporate a KL divergence term to regularize noise prediction, which enhances the perceptual realism and diversity of the generated images. Experimental results demonstrate that TiUE outperforms state-of-the-art methods, including LCM, SD-Turbo, and SwiftBrushv2, producing more diverse and realistic results while maintaining the computational efficiency.

One-Minute Video Generation with Test-Time Training

Expand abstract

Transformers today still struggle to generate one-minute videos because self-attention layers are inefficient for long context. Alternatives such as Mamba layers struggle to produce coherent scenes because their hidden states are small and less expressive. We experiment with Test-Time Training (TTT) layers, whose hidden states themselves can be neural networks, therefore larger and more expressive. Adding TTT layers into a pre-trained Transformer enables it to generate one-minute videos from text storyboards. We curate a dataset based on Tom and Jerry cartoons as a proof-of-concept benchmark. Compared to baselines such as Mamba 2, Gated DeltaNet, and sliding-window attention layers, TTT layers generate much more coherent videos that tell complete stories, leading by 34 Elo points in a human evaluation of 100 videos per method. Although promising, our results are still limited in physical realism, and the efficiency of our implementation can be further improved. Expand abstract

With the rapid growth of generative AI and its widespread application in image editing, new risks have emerged regarding the authenticity and integrity of digital content. Existing versatile watermarking approaches suffer from trade-offs between tamper localization precision and visual quality. Constrained by the limited flexibility of previous framework, their localized watermark must remain fixed across all images. Under AIGC-editing, their copyright extraction accuracy is also unsatisfactory. To address these challenges, we propose OmniGuard, a novel augmented versatile watermarking approach that integrates proactive embedding with passive, blind extraction for robust copyright protection and tamper localization. OmniGuard employs a hybrid forensic framework that enables flexible localization watermark selection and introduces a degradation-aware tamper extraction network for precise localization under challenging conditions. Additionally, a lightweight AIGC-editing simulation layer is designed to enhance robustness across global and local editing. Extensive experiments show that OmniGuard achieves superior fidelity, robustness, and flexibility. Compared to the recent state-of-the-art approach EditGuard, our method outperforms it by 4.25dB in PSNR of the container image, 20.7% in F1-Score under noisy conditions, and 14.8% in average bit accuracy.

Moreover, compared to existing diffusion models, it is more user-friendly and can complete complex tasks end-to-end through instructions without the need for extra intermediate steps, greatly simplifying the image generation workflow. 3) Knowledge Transfer: Benefit from learning in a unified format, OmniGen effectively transfers knowledge across different tasks, manages unseen tasks and domains, and exhibits novel capabilities. We also explore the model's reasoning capabilities and potential applications of the chain-of-thought mechanism. This work represents the first attempt at a general-purpose image generation model, and we will release our resources at https://github.com/VectorSpaceLab/OmniGen to foster future advancements.
